Sean Stone is keeping it in the family for his next project as writer/director: an adaptation of his father Oliver’s novel “A Child’s Night Dream.” The younger Stone has already written a screenplay based on the book, which the Academy Award–winning filmmaker wrote when he was 19 and serving in the military. Deadline first broke the news.
Set in Vietnam and based on the “Platoon” and “Born on the 4th of July” director’s own experiences, “A Child’s Night Dream” was first published in 1997. The story will be moved to the aftermath of 9/11 for the film adaptation. Now 31, Sean says he’s been working on the adaptation since he was 15. “My own high school and early college years informed the script, and helped it evolve...

Nightlight didnt earn a major theatrical release but it could very well have. Its a superior effort to films like As Above So Below and a few of the Paranormal Activity features. Its certainly more engaging than an assortment of other VOD pics as well like VHS Viral Hollow Grave Encounters Mr. Jones and Greystone Park. In short it deserved a much stronger marketing campaign and while I personally wouldnt have been likely to rush to the local Cinemark to check it out it would have proven worth my hard earned cash had I indeed opted to do so. This one is clearly a step above the average subgenre effort.

May is Huntington’s Disease Awareness month. What is Huntington’s Disease?
Huntington’s Disease is a hereditary degenerative brain disorder that results in the progressive loss of mental faculties and physical control. Around 30,000 Americans have been diagnosed, and 200,000 have a 50/50 chance of developing it, though less than 10% of those at risk choose to take the available test. As of yet, there is no cure.
Beautiful filmmaker, Marianna Palka, is 32 years old. Her father began showing signs of Huntington’s Disease, when he was 33. She has a 50/50 chance of contracting the disease, and will find out her fate while in the health practitioner's office, surrounded by friends, during the documentary.

Woodie Guthrie (July 14, 1912-October 3, 1967) was a folk singer and songwriter from Oklahoma, who also played guitar, harmonica, mandolin, and fiddle. He had been an inspiration to Bob Dylan and the “folk revivalists,” a group of young people in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, who were introduced to folk through Pete Seeger, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, his ex-wife Marjorie, and his son Arlo.
Woodie Guthrie, suffered from Huntington’s Disease. He was increasingly unable to control his muscles, and was hospitalized at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Morris County, NJ from 1956 to 1961, Brooklyn State Hospital in East Flatbush until 1966, and, finally, at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Queens Village, NY until his death in 1967. The then 19-year-old Bob Dylan, who idolized Woodie Guthrie, had regularly gone to visit him at Greystone Park. Guthrie died of complications due to Huntington’s Disease on October 3, 1967.

The title of the film ‘The Lion’s Mouth Opens,’ is taken from a poem that Bob Dylan wrote about Woody Guthrie called ‘Last Thoughts on Woody Guthrie.’
“When yer head gets twisted and yer mind grows numb
When you think you’re too old, too young, too smart or too dumb
When yer laggin’ behind an’ losin’ yer pace
In a slow-motion crawl of life’s busy race
No matter what yer doing if you start givin’ up
If the wine don’t come to the top of yer cup
If the wind’s got you sideways with with one hand holdin’ on
And the other starts slipping and the feeling is gone
And yer train engine fire needs a new spark to catch it
And the wood’s easy findin’ but yer lazy to fetch it
And yer sidewalk starts curlin’ and the street gets too long
And you start walkin’ backwards though you know its wrong
And lonesome comes up as down goes the day
And tomorrow’s mornin’ seems so far away
And you feel the reins from yer pony are slippin’
And yer rope is a-slidin’ ’cause yer hands are a-drippin’
And yer sun-decked desert and evergreen valleys
Turn to broken down slums and trash-can alleys
And yer sky cries water and yer drain pipe’s a-pourin’
And the lightnin’s a-flashing and the thunder’s a-crashin’
And the windows are rattlin’ and breakin’ and the roof tops a-shakin’
And yer whole world’s a-slammin’ and bangin’
And yer minutes of sun turn to hours of storm
And to yourself you sometimes say
“I never knew it was gonna be this way
Why didn’t they tell me the day I was born”
And you start gettin’ chills and yer jumping from sweat
And you’re lookin’ for somethin’ you ain’t quite found yet
And yer knee-deep in the dark water with yer hands in the air
And the whole world’s a-watchin’ with a window peek stare
And yer good gal leaves and she’s long gone a-flying
And yer heart feels sick like fish when they’re fryin’
And yer jackhammer falls from yer hand to yer feet
And you need it badly but it lays on the street
And yer bell’s bangin’ loudly but you can’t hear its beat
And you think yer ears might a been hurt
Or yer eyes’ve turned filthy from the sight-blindin’ dirt
And you figured you failed in yesterdays rush
When you were faked out an’ fooled white facing a four flush
And all the time you were holdin’ three queens
And it’s makin you mad, it’s makin’ you mean
Like in the middle of Life magazine
Bouncin’ around a pinball machine
And there’s something on yer mind you wanna be saying
That somebody someplace oughta be hearin’
But it’s trapped on yer tongue and sealed in yer head
And it bothers you badly when your layin’ in bed
And no matter how you try you just can’t say it
And yer scared to yer soul you just might forget it
And yer eyes get swimmy from the tears in yer head
And yer pillows of feathers turn to blankets of lead
And the lion’s mouth opens and yer staring at his teeth
And his jaws start closin with you underneath
And yer flat on your belly with yer hands tied behind
And you wish you’d never taken that last detour sign
And you say to yourself just what am I doin’
On this road I’m walkin’, on this trail I’m turnin’
On this curve I’m hanging
On this pathway I’m strolling, in the space I’m taking
In this air I’m inhaling
Am I mixed up too much, am I mixed up too hard
Why am I walking, where am I running
What am I saying, what am I knowing
On this guitar I’m playing, on this banjo I’m frailin’
On this mandolin I’m strummin’, in the song I’m singin’
In the tune I’m hummin’, in the words I’m writin’
In the words that I’m thinkin’
In this ocean of hours I’m all the time drinkin’
Who am I helping, what am I breaking
What am I giving, what am I taking
But you try with your whole soul best
Never to think these thoughts and never to let
Them kind of thoughts gain ground
Or make yer heart pound
But then again you know why they’re around
Just waiting for a chance to slip and drop down
“Cause sometimes you hear’em when the night times comes creeping
And you fear that they might catch you a-sleeping
And you jump from yer bed, from yer last chapter of dreamin’
And you can’t remember for the best of yer thinking
If that was you in the dream that was screaming
And you know that it’s something special you’re needin’
And you know that there’s no drug that’ll do for the healin’
And no liquor in the land to stop yer brain from bleeding
And you need something special
Yeah, you need something special all right
You need a fast flyin’ train on a tornado track
To shoot you someplace and shoot you back
You need a cyclone wind on a stream engine howler
That’s been banging and booming and blowing forever
That knows yer troubles a hundred times over
You need a Greyhound bus that don’t bar no race
That won’t laugh at yer looks
Your voice or your face
And by any number of bets in the book
Will be rollin’ long after the bubblegum craze
You need something to open up a new door
To show you something you seen before
But overlooked a hundred times or more
You need something to open your eyes
You need something to make it known
That it’s you and no one else that owns
That spot that yer standing, that space that you’re sitting
That the world ain’t got you beat
That it ain’t got you licked
It can’t get you crazy no matter how many
Times you might get kicked
You need something special all right
You need something special to give you hope
But hope’s just a word
That maybe you said or maybe you heard
On some windy corner ’round a wide-angled curve
But that’s what you need man, and you need it bad
And yer trouble is you know it too good
“Cause you look an’ you start getting the chills
“Cause you can’t find it on a dollar bill
And it ain’t on Macy’s window sill
And it ain’t on no rich kid’s road map
And it ain’t in no fat kid’s fraternity house
And it ain’t made in no Hollywood wheat germ
And it ain’t on that dimlit stage
With that half-wit comedian on it
Ranting and raving and taking yer money
And you thinks it’s funny
No you can’t find it in no night club or no yacht club
And it ain’t in the seats of a supper club
And sure as hell you’re bound to tell
That no matter how hard you rub
You just ain’t a-gonna find it on yer ticket stub
No, and it ain’t in the rumors people’re tellin’ you
And it ain’t in the pimple-lotion people are sellin’ you
And it ain’t in no cardboard-box house
Or down any movie star’s blouse
And you can’t find it on the golf course
And Uncle Remus can’t tell you and neither can Santa Claus
And it ain’t in the cream puff hair-do or cotton candy clothes
And it ain’t in the dime store dummies or bubblegum goons
And it ain’t in the marshmallow noises of the chocolate cake voices
That come knockin’ and tappin’ in Christmas wrappin’
Sayin’ ain’t I pretty and ain’t I cute and look at my skin
Look at my skin shine, look at my skin glow
Look at my skin laugh, look at my skin cry
When you can’t even sense if they got any insides
These people so pretty in their ribbons and bows
No you’ll not now or no other day
Find it on the doorsteps made out-a paper mache?
And inside it the people made of molasses
That every other day buy a new pair of sunglasses
And it ain’t in the fifty-star generals and flipped-out phonies
Who’d turn yuh in for a tenth of a penny
Who breathe and burp and bend and crack
And before you can count from one to ten
Do it all over again but this time behind yer back, my friend
The ones that wheel and deal and whirl and twirl
And play games with each other in their sand-box world
And you can’t find it either in the no-talent fools
That run around gallant and make all rules for the ones that got talent
And it ain’t in the ones that ain’t got any talent but think they do
And think they’re foolin’ you
The ones who jump on the wagon
Just for a while ’cause they know it’s in style
To get their kicks, get out of it quick
And make all kinds of money and chicks
And you yell to yourself and you throw down yer hat
Sayin’, “Christ do I gotta be like that
Ain’t there no one here that knows where I’m at
Ain’t there no one here that knows how I feel
Good God Almighty That Stuff Ain’T Real”
No but that ain’t yer game, it ain’t even yer race
You can’t hear yer name, you can’t see yer face
You gotta look some other place
And where do you look for this hope that yer seekin’
Where do you look for this lamp that’s a-burnin’
Where do you look for this oil well gushin’
Where do you look for this candle that’s glowin’
Where do you look for this hope that you know is there
And out there somewhere
And your feet can only walk down two kinds of roads?
Your eyes can only look through two kinds of windows
Your nose can only smell two kinds of hallways
You can touch and twist
And turn two kinds of doorknobs
You can either go to the church of your choice
Or you can go to Brooklyn State Hospital
You’ll find God in the church of your choice
You’ll find Woody Guthrie in Brooklyn State Hospital
And though it’s only my opinion
I may be right or wrong
You’ll find them both
In the Grand Canyon
At sundown”

Huntington’s disease (HD) is a neurodegenerative genetic disorder that affects muscle coordination and leads to mental decline and behavioral symptoms. Symptoms of the disease can vary between individuals and affected members of the same family, but usually progress predictably. The earliest symptoms are often subtle problems with mood or cognition. A general lack of coordination and an unsteady gait often follows. As the disease advances, uncoordinated, jerky body movements become more apparent, along with a decline in mental abilities and behavioral symptoms.
Physical abilities gradually worsen until coordinated movement becomes difficult. Mental abilities generally decline into dementia. Complications such as pneumonia, heart disease, and physical injury from falls reduce life expectancy to around twenty years from the point at which symptoms begin. Physical symptoms can begin at any age from infancy to old age, but usually begin between 35 and 44 years of age. The disease may develop earlier in life in each successive generation. About 6% of cases start before the age of 21 years with an akinetic-rigid syndrome; they progress faster and vary slightly. The variant is classified as juvenile, akinetic-rigid, or Westphal variant HD.

The Horror Legacy of Wes Craven Exhibit Details: “Wes Craven has been feeding our collective horror consciousness since 1972, when his first feature, “The Last House on the Left,” debuted. That film was gritty, raw and terrifying, it still causes a guttural reaction some 40 years later. In his career, Wes has created some of the most memorable moments in horror cinema, from the torture scene in “The Serpent and the Rainbow,” to the Johnny Depp’s explosive scene in “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” to the first glimpse of Michael Berryman’s savagery in “The Hills Have Eyes.

Hilary Mantel, Jonathan Franzen, Mohsin Hamid, Ruth Rendell, Tom Stoppard, Malcolm Gladwell, Eleanor Catton and many more recommend the books that impressed them this year
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Five Star Billionaire by Tash Aw (Fourth Estate) is a brilliant, sprawling, layered and unsentimental portrayal of contemporary China. It made me think and laugh. I also love Dave Eggers' The Circle (Hamish Hamilton), which is a sharp-eyed and funny satire about the obsession with "sharing" our lives through technology. It's convincing and a little creepy.
William Boyd
By strange coincidence two of the most intriguing art books I read this year had the word "Breakfast" in their titles. They were Breakfast with Lucian by Geordie Greig (Jonathan Cape) and Breakfast at Sotheby's by Philip Hook (Particular). Greig's fascinating, intimate biography of Lucian Freud was a revelation. Every question I had about Freud – from the aesthetic to the intrusively gossipy – was...

As I write this, I’m marveling at how much an ordinary Film School Reject’s life can change in a couple of weeks. A couple Saturdays ago, I was kickin’ it in Hollywood at the first-annual La Horror Fest and having the time of my life. Now I’m freezing my proverbial nutsack off in my home state of Minnesota, toiling in what feels like perpetual darkness thanks to that straight-up bullshit we know affectionately as “falling back.” Thankfully, I still have the memories of the sunshine and (cinematic) bloodletting to keep me warm. And, hey, if I learned anything at the Fest, it’s that you’ve got to take the bitter with the sweet. Or in my case, the pea-green vomit with the succulent artisanal fruit jam. Trust me. This will all make sense in seconds. Just give me a moment to connect the dots. The Spawn of Stone Seven features screened at the...

Sean Stone has a lot to live up to. The son of a very famous director (Oliver Stone), Sean begins carving out his own niche in film making with his horror film Greystone Park. One of the many current releases that employs the found footage device, Greystone Park, an abandoned mental institution, is a real place which Sean says he and his crew broke into, and is truly haunted. Having seen the film, I can say it does indeed contain some genuine scares, and Sean exhibits an ability at creating tension and frightening the audience. What he had to say about the process of creating his first feature, and his own beliefs in the supernatural was quite interesting. Believe him, don't believe him, either...

Sean Stone (son of Oliver) makes his feature directorial debut with Greystone Park, a found-footage flick inspired by his own experiences in an abandoned mental hospital. In this exclusive interview, Sean talks about haunted hallways, ghosts, and his famous dad.
Greystone Park is “based on a true story.” Of course, I need to know what that true story is.
The true story is really the one you see on-screen. You see the dinner table scene - that was the catalyst for this whole event. When my father was in New York shooting Wall Street 2, we all had dinner: my dad, Alex Wraith, me, a couple of friends. Alex was talking about Greystone, this haunted hospital. He had been exploring it for three years. He had taken his camera with him; he had been arrested a couple of times for trespassing. He was trying to document what was going on, trying...

Greystone Park is the latest faux documentary centering on paranormal activity. The twist this time out is that it’s a re-creation of actual events that happened to filmmaker Sean Stone and his friends while exploring the infamous New Jersey institution.
Stone (the son of director Oliver Stone) and friends shot the film on location and often encountered new paranormal experiences during the production. All of this they captured on video, further blurring the lines between fact and fiction. After a successful run on the festival circuit, Greystone Park, arrives on DVD and Blu-ray this week. Stone, who has already made several documentaries and has appeared in many of his father’s projects, recently spoke with Planet Fury about his experiences making the film.
You have a background in documentary films so the faux documentary style of Greystone Park seems like a natural progression into scripted fare.
Yeah. Very True.

Like father, like son. Having acted since childhood in his father, Oliver Stone's films, Sean Stone is taking a cue from his famous pop with his feature directorial debut, "Greystone Park," a paranormal thriller sure to frighten fans of the "Paranormal Activity" series. His dad even makes an appearance. The film takes place on one fall night, where three filmmakers break into Greystone Park, a hospital known for its radical treatment of patients with mental illness. Once inside, the group discover that they are not alone; and having entered this realm, reality as they know it will never again be the same. Below Stone shares an exclusive scene from his film and recounts the creepy experience of making the horror film. "Greystone Park" is now available on VOD and will be available on DVD on October 16th through XLrator Media. ______________________________________ The opening is almost cliche. Oliver Stone's son, Sean Stone, has been working as an actor for many years, mostly appearing in his father's films. Sean makes his debut as a feature film director, however, with Greystone Park, the supernatural thriller now available on VOD and arriving on DVD next Tuesday, October 16th. The film's release marks the end of a long road for Sean and the project, which actually got its start many years ago.
The film is said to be "based on true events" (of course) and follows three aspiring filmmakers trying to document unexplainable events in an abandoned insane asylum known as Greystone Park. Urban legend has it that anyone who ventures into the forsaken hospital will suffer the consequences and face their own horrors. The trio stumble across a mysterious realm of escaped patients, ghosts and demonic shadows, as they try to uncover the truth behind Greystone Park.

Has director Sean Stone had experiences with ghosts before? “Not before Greystone,” he said. Stone, son of popular director Oliver Stone, said the idea for the film “Greystone Park” came to him after meeting Alexander Wraith, who was working on Oliver’s film, “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.” “Well, very much like you see inside the film,” said Stone about the meeting and idea for the film. “It was a dinner table discussion. New York, NY – Oct 4, 2012. Greystone Park (a.k.a. The Asylum Tapes) is the latest in a long line of “found footage” films to inundate the Dtv market.
It takes the Blair Witch approach by using the actual names of the actors involved and placing in them in a real, purportedly haunted location — in this instance, a former psychiatric hospital in New Jersey called Greystone Park. The building itself is an ominous, gothic structure that practically screams “horror film.” Making his feature directorial debut is Sean Stone, the son of award-winning director Oliver Stone. (The elder Stone even makes an appearance in a scene at the beginning.) His background includes several documentary projects, including some engrossing shorts about his father’s work, making him a logical candidate for this particular genre. Stone is also...

To bring originality to the found footage genre is a challenge in itself. Due to the sub-genres simplistic style and minimal cost productions it's a no brainer for smaller production companies to get involved with but bringing the intended scares to its audience can still escape the director. Hopefully helmer Sean Stone, son of filmmaker Oliver Stone, can bring a fresh perspective with his directorial feature debut 'Greystone Park'. The movie stars Stone along with Antonella Lentini, John Schramm, Monique Zordan and Monique Van Vooren as well as appearances from writer Alexander Wraith and Sean's father Oliver Stone. The supernatural horror will arrive on VOD across the Us from 13 September and subsequently on DVD from 16 October, courtesy of XLrator Media. Check out the plot details and DVD artwork below....

I'll never forget Sean Stone as the young, freckle-faced Jim Morrison through whom the soul of the bloody dead roadside Indian passed in his father Oliver Stone's epic The Doors. But now Stone fils is all grown up and making sketchily conceived films of his own for his dad to appear in. Click through to check out the triple Oscar-winner's cameo in the trailer for Stone's narrative feature debut Graystone (no pun intended... I think?), and stick around for more Buzz Break.

Sean Stone has been working both in front and behind the camera for a number of years but he's remained mostly under the radar. I'm not convinced his new project, a handheld camera horror film titled Greystone (originally known as SecretStone) is going to be the film to make him stand out but I am happy to see that he's taking a different approach than dad.
With Stone Sr. on board for a cameo, the film stars Sean and a few other folks as a group of friends who decide to break into an abandoned mental asylum. With cameras and light in tow, the group head inside, find a bunch of creepy things, experience some evil and then discover they can't escape.
Not exactly a new formula and it doesn't look like Stone is trying to re-invent the wheel, just make a really good spoke. I'm not sure he's succeeded,...
