Already Miss It!
Rob133129 September 2022
Hawaii Five-0 is a pretty entertaining police that's based off the original show. It's a fun and fast paced police procedural that gives you everything you want in a cop show that can just waste some time for you. They show Hawaii to be as beautiful as ever. I never watched the original Hawaii Five-0 because it was on before I was born therefore I can't compare the two but this newer one is really good in its own right and is absolutely worth watching! The entire cast does an incredible job. The only bad part of this show is the ending. They had to rush it because of COVID so they couldn't give it the ending they intended. If you're looking for a really fun police procedural that will keep you engaged throughout the series than this is the show for you.

Worth Watching!
Supermanfan-1312 June 2022
Even though it was probably time for Hawaii Five-0 to end I'm still going to miss it. I really enjoyed tuning in to this show for this last ten years. Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan lead a great cast that also includes Daniel Dae Kim, Grace Park, Chi McBride, Jorge Garcia, Ian Anthony Dale, Beulah Koale, Meaghan Rath, Katrina Law, Michelle Borth and many more. This show has enough action, drama and comedy to keep any fan satisfied. Besides the acting and writing the visuals are also beautiful. It really goes out of its way to show you how beautiful Hawaii is. This isn't a show that requires a lot of your attention either, you can do other things while this is on and still follow the plot. If you're looking for a fun show to watch on Friday Nights then this is it.

Losing interest in Season 7...
scubafiend21 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Almost without exception I love the first seven seasons. However, I am definitely less enthralled with the exit of Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim. They were core part of the ensemble cast, and The network made a huge error and not doing everything they could to retain them. I also agree with another review that said that the Danny character has become quite annoying and the sniping between McGarrett and Danny is starting to turn me off. I'm glad they finally formalized Jorge as part of the team, and it is nice to see Willie Garson in a fun role - I miss seeing him since he has passed away. I bought the entire series, I wish I had remembered that Grace and Daniel were not in the entire series.

Better than the original
kellielulu16 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is from someone who grew up watching the original.

The early seasons are more intense like the original but also has humor and family situations coming into play especially with Danny's daughter Grace but over time the team grows and family plays and increasingly larger part of the show. A change from Monday to Friday is also believed to a reason to shift the focus away from the types of crimes and episodes . Even Mc Garret has his softer side although he's always looked out for the team and victims.

From the start women are a part of Five O . Kono is female and the number of women grew over time.

They have other characters like the corner ( first male and later female) and Hawaiian locals such a food truck vendors adding to the more inclusive feel and relaxed atmosphere compared the more formal original.

Steve and Danno are the anchor characters especially early on and their banter takes off on the first episode but they are there for each other too .

I enjoyed the pilot episode, it's got some heart to it
cdn_moviefan21 September 2010
Actors: Main 3 are cookie cutter, nearly identical birth years. I like that they're in their 30's and not all 90210 on viewers. Storyline: Definitely an action show, and it's done adequately. Script: Solid. Some cheesy stuff, some wow stuff, some well acted scenes. A few roll your eyes moments, but that keeps in part with the way the original was.

Pros: The script writing. The acting. The actors aren't Hollywood good-looking. But they are a good match with the scripts. Subtle little moments of humour, that you have to see visually and/or hear. Something ha ha will be thrown in there when you least expect it. The building of the characters. You find out little bits here and there and already starting to get a better understanding of how a character is the way he or she is.

Cons: The filming of a fight sequence, taking on the bad guys was terrible. That's not a spoiler. You'd fully expect to see one, seeing as it was in a huge amount of TV commercials. It sucks because you can see the distance between them, when they are at blows with each other. The editing is a shambles, it's so crappy in the action sequences. Could be much better. Hire more qualified people, it's worth it.

The believability of some legal situations are a bit dodgy. That detracts, and makes it a little hard to buy into it. But then again it is not a documentary. It's a TV show that's there to entertain you. Watch yourself a reality show like Cops if you're going to harp on it.

Summarily. My take: I like it because it's fresh. The camaraderie reminds me (a little) of: some Starsky and Hutch, a dash of 21 Jump Street, and yes the feel of the original Hawaii Five-O is there. It's on location on beautiful Oahu, with little studio time in it. Outdoors: That's just how they roll on that island.

Hawaii Five- O WOW !
janus-201 March 2011
I LOVE this show, LOVE it, its just the shot in the arm TV needs, its the complete antithesis of most of the other American shows we get here in the UK and its such a welcome contrast.

There are some superb TV shows on offer at the moment, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, genre shows like Dexter, Tru Blood and Walking Dead, all diverse, all excellent top draw entertainment.

Its the success of these shows that makes Five-0 such a great alternative, its fast paced, funny, has plenty of crash, bang, wallop and it looks great.

A guilty pleasure you say ? NO, this exactly what TV should be doing, offering choice, i hate reality and talent shows with every fibre of my being, but they cater to people who do like them, so i feel that i deserve an action packed cop show now and again.

Choice is the key factor in everything we do for recreation today, TV like it or not is a big part of peoples recreation, so its right that it should be offering a diversity of shows that appeal to all tastes.

As to the issue of remakes/boots, whatever, this tired argument ran out of steam on Battlestar Galactica, i ranted against the new one, then sat and watched it and realised that, you can like both, the hypocrisy cops are not going to kick your door down. If you like it, good, if you don't like it, good, but ranting about the revisiting of classics is like arguing with the weather. I used to watch the original Five-0 here in the UK (Saturday nights, ITV, late on) loved it, but i can find some room for the new one too.

This show has to get a second series, this is flat out brilliant TV, in the middle of a worldwide recession, political and social upheaval rife, the upbeat, take no prisoners, ass kicking note of Hawaii's favourite Five-0 unit is just the tonic.

Shows Promise but...
jodogo5920 September 2010
Let's start with arguably the best and most recognized TV score of all time. If the producers want to use the original theme song, then why shorten it? It reminded me of the truncated TV tunes of re-runs in syndication.

Now for the pilot episode. I thought it odd that Hawaii 5-0 would open with a scene in South Korea. It's like stumbling out of bed in the morning not exactly sure what you're going to do that day.

There are also seemed to be to much gun play and not enough acting. The dialog and some of the background setup (Danno's family situation, for example) was a bit too cliché. Some of the personal background could be better developed over time rather than cramming it into one episode while chasing the bad guys.

The overall storyline for the pilot was excellent, though. It gave background to 5-0's beginnings and it maintained a certain consistency and plausibility with TOS while adding the dimension of McGarrett and his father.

Some of the dialog resulted in an approving chuckle from me.

The episode began to gel about 2/3 in and by the end of the show, I felt comfortable with the main characters and looked forward to the next chapter.

Exciting thriller,action, but...
eliaselnaz8 December 2022
Everything about this series was impressive and in most of the episodes there is a humanitarian message to be learned , but some characters are suddenly missing and it's frustrating. For example Dr. Sharp in One episode is blocked in the elavator with Danny Williams, but then Suddenly we don't see her any more, and the same happens to Leylani the first Chin Ho's girl friend after her late wife or Charli Fong, crime scene specialist who seemed very close to Five-O and even to Steve himself, but all of them disappear without giving a good reason to viewer. Apart from this lack of deep characterization every other thing about this series, story, acts, music, light, decors, special effects ,rhythm, every aspect was stunning.

Exciting television with a fair bit of eye candy
HelenMary7 February 2013
Love this show! I was a fan of Alex O'Loughlin in Moonlight (guilty pleasure), and he's just delicious in this; cool, calm and collected, fast, good with a gun and awesome looking in uniform. Add to that, brilliant other characters in this Hawaii-50 remake including the iconic Danno (Scott Caan) and also lovely and determined Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim) and gorgeous and kick-ass Kono (Grace Park). Each episode is part of a larger story arc but is an exciting and gripping adventure or case, where the bad guys are brought down, they often go undercover and use technology, contacts, and a few good smack downs to get what they need done. The scripts aren't always A1 but the dialogue is sufficient and often funny, but without the over-cheesy CSI lines that make you want to throw things at the TV, and it's not predictable or overly stylised with set pieces. There's also great stunts and car chases, it's exciting television that isn't mindless or pointless. It's also nice because despite the violence, it's not gratuitous in other ways and is good (older) family entertainment set in beautiful Hawaii with gorgeous vistas and scenery, beaches and surfing; pretty good advertising for the island actually!

This show sucks big time without Chin and Kono
prabathii30 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This show sucks big time without Chin and Kono. What were they thinking, bringing on two new unrelated characters out of the air? Failed to secure pay parity? Seriously? It's not going to last long at this rate.

A refreshing dose of action-packed escapism
quarrellator4 January 2011
This show feels like the antidote to all those forensic, gritty, supposedly realistic crime dramas out there today. Hawaii 5-0 2010 is no crime drama, and it's not meant to be. It's also not its father, and anyone looking for a straight remake of the original classic is setting themselves up for disappointment. It's an old-fashioned cop show, the concept updated for today's audience, but with story lines that Starsky & Hutch would be proud of, providing a few more car chases down box-strewn alleyways were thrown in. It's Die Hard for the small screen - John McClane would fit right into the new 5-0 unit, fighting all the terrorist/ninja/crooked cop types that Hawaii seems to be attracting like a magnet. Excellent action sequences, great gun fights, some entertaining relationships developing between the characters, and you know what? Sometimes things just go boom. Pure entertainment, nothing more, nothing less.

They argue like a married couple
mikejade-354535 November 2018
Most of the storylines just do not work. Too many holes. Mostly the dumb arguments are annoying, not funny. The show has gone downhill from season to season.

Used to love this show
pshbhatt3 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I used to love this show and I tried to be loyal even after Danirk Dae Kim and Grace Park left the show but I could not. The original team was perfect but the show went downhill and I stopped watching it. I guess making money by cutting of characters is more important than the audience's satisfaction.

Best show I've seen in years!
Deana_197720 September 2010
I was a huge fan of the original Hawaii Five-O, so when I heard about this attempt at a new show, I was excited but skeptical at the same time. Would it be just another CSI, or would it be different? Would it deserve to be called 'Hawaii Five-O'? Well, I must say...

I LOVE it!

First of all, the show is NOT just another CSI. It's different...it's funny...all in all, it's refreshing. Steve and Danno's bantering with each other is hilarious...very normal and realistic. There are some differences regarding the character's lives, but that's fine, as long as every episode has the spirit that it's had so far.

As for the actors...Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan are perfect. I can't imagine anyone else having their roles. Daniel Dae Kim is fine in his role...the only problem I have is with Grace Park. It seems unbelievable that her character would land a job like this, fresh out of police academy and with no real police experience...not to mention that she looks 15 years old. Oh well.

I haven't missed a single episode, and eagerly await it every week!

Love it but already missing Daniel Kim and Grace Park
thinkoutloud-808965 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Love this show. It is the one show my hubby loves to watch on TV that puts a smile on his face or keeps him interested.

What really makes the show, however, is the relationships formed by the characters. And now that two of the main characters, Chin Ho and Kono, will be gone from the show in season 8, I just don't get it. That means that Adam will be affected as will Amanda.

And let's be honest, Daniel Kim and Grace Park have added more to the show than Scot Caan has over the years. In fact, there are times when Scott goes missing for episodes that I wondered if he was even on the show anymore and yet, did not miss his character one bit.

When Kono was out of the show (which Grace Park took maternity leave), she was greatly missed. The departure of Kim and Park will definitely leave a hole in the team.

An elite team led Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan face off all kinds of delinquents in the sunny Hawaii
ma-cortes4 November 2016
Action-filled series about tough cops led by Head Detective Steve McGarrett who is joined by an expert group in Hawaii . It is with plenty of suspense , restless movements , violence , crossfire and lots of killings . As Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) returns home to Oahu , in order to find his father's (William Sadler) killer . The governor Pat Jameson (Jean Smart as first governor succeeded by second governor , Sam Denning ,Richard T. Jones) has set up a special force and she offers him the chance to run his own task force called Five-0 . All of them face nasty delinquents and heinous killers by means of high technology and a well armed equipment . The show follows the activities of the detectives working at dangerous missions , including terrorism and serious organized crime . They tackle a range of crimes with more far-reaching consequences than those dealt with by HPD , as Hawaii 5.0 officers use the best scientist and technical methods to solve puzzles and catch criminals . Five-O often is drawn into cases with intelligence and/or national security implications , presumably because of military bases on the islands and Hawaii's strategic location in the Pacific Ocean . It stars various expert cops of a special unit against crime that take down cerebral murderers , scum and low-life criminals , these are the followings : Scott Caan as Danny Williams , Daniel Dae Kim as Chin Ho Kelly , Grace Park as Kono Kalakaua , Masi Oka as medical examiner Max Bergman and subsequently Chi McBride as two-fisted and corpulent Lou Grover.

This exciting series formed by 150 episodes packs a moving atmosphere by means of shaky camera , videotape and excellent action scenes in a really dynamic style . The action moments are compactly made and fast moving . The robbing , kidnappings , heists , and murders deliver the goods filled with non-stop action , intrigue and suspenseful . The series premiered on September 20 , 2010, exactly 42 years to the day from the premiere of the original series , Hawaii 5-o starred by Jack Lord and produced by Leonard Freeman . It contains a sitting and thrilling score , producers decided to stay with the classic theme , they brought in a full orchestra to re-record it, and three of the members had even played on the original ,the electric guitar rendition of the Hawaii Five-O theme song was later used on promotional advertisements . The Five-O name comes from Steve's father , when he and his sister were kids, Steve's father used to call them Five-Oers, because Hawaii is the 50th U.S. state . This is the second attempt to remake Hawai 5-0 (1968) , the first had been the sequel Hawaii Five-O (1997). Producers Alex Kurtzman , J.J. Abrahams and Roberto Orci took over and decided to reboot the series instead of make it a sequel to the original . The majority of the techniques and technologies used in the Hawaii 5.0 shows are accurate and true to reality . The expert team is headed by Alex O'Loughlin who gives a nice and tough acting as leader McGarrett , whom the governor offers him the chance to run his own task force (Five-0) , he formerly served in Naval Intelligence and he cares about his men and those closest to him ; he has a number of serious relationships, -specially to Catherine Rollins/Michelle Borth- , but none of which resulted in marriage . McGarrett's longest-serving aide is Dan Williams/Scott Caan , who was around for 11 seasons of the show , he is a valiant cop , divorced and a daughter , Grace William played by the little girl Teilor Grubbs . Daniel Kim as Chin Ho Kelly , a former HPD Detective who was fired for accused corruption . His first cousin is Kono , finely performed by Grace Park , a brave detective but who falls in love for a suspect Japanese , Ian Anthony Dale , whose family belongs to Yakuza .

The support cast is frankly magnificent such as Terry O'Quinn who plays recurring character Cmdr. Joe White, who was McGarrett's instructor at Seals School. Special mention for Jorge Garcia as the fatty , bouncing and sympathetic Jerry Ortega . The character of Wo Fat , the principal arch-villain of both the 1968 original (as portrayed by Khigh Dhiegh) and 2010 rebooted series (as portrayed by Mark Dacascos), appeared a lot of times . Wo Fat is the McGarrett's toughest foe , Wo initially operated as an agent of China. By 1972, there are signs that China frowns upon Wo's murderous methods ; by 1974, Wo Fat has apparently gone independent, as he expresses his displeasure to the warming relations between his country and the U.S . Other secondaries are William Sadler, who portrays Steve's father, John McGarrett, and Christine Lahti, who portrays Steve's mother . The HPD lab technician Charlie Fong introduced late in Season One is based on the character Che Fong in the original series . Other several notorious secondaries who appear are Taylor Wily , Lauren German , William Baldwin , William Forsythe , James Marsters , Michael Imperioli , Autumn Resser , Kelly Hu , Randy Couture , Carol Burnett , Jason Scott , Tom Sizemore , and Taryn Manning as McGarrett's sister . Furthermore , Robert Loggia, Clyde Kusatsu, Patty Duke, Al Harrington, George Takei, Ed Asner, Don Stroud and Dennis Chun, are actors who have appeared on both the new and original versions of Hawaii Five-O . In addition , there are at least 18 characters throughout Hawaii 5-0 that have also played on Lost (2004). And the Series being directed by prestigious filmmakers as Bryan Spicer , Steve Boyum , Joe Dante , Sylvain White , Peter Weller , Stephen Herek , Bobby Roth , John Terlesky ,Len Wiseman , James Withmore Jr. , Len Wiseman , Ron Underwood .

"Get them off my Island"
wright770020 December 2010
I can't say enough good about this show and its actors. All four of the major characters were well chosen and show a great range of emotions, allowing for considerable character development. In one episode, we learn more about where all four of them than we did in the original series from 1968-80. Their acting ability and range would allow for big screen versions of the show.

Instead of the squeaky clean and unrealistic, monotone characters of the original series, all of these people have "issues" related to the complexities and problems of modern life: long distance moves, job stress, living away from family members, political problems.

The plots of each episode move very quickly, and I am able to pick up new things watching an episode a second time.

While the pilot and first few episodes didn't take advantage of the beautiful backdrop of Hawaii quite enough, they sure have made up for that over the season. Molokai, Kauai, and rural areas of Oahu have all been displayed in a beautiful radiant fashion. Having been there twice myself, I believe that every American should see this true paradise.

I had never seen Alex O'Loughlin in anything before this series, and he knocks the ball out of the park with his modern, over the top, somewhat Neanderthal McGarrett, who pushes the law to the limit to win. His chemistry with Scott Caan makes the series. They deliver without turning this into Baywatch.

It would be interesting to see Jean Smart, the governor, a bit more, but that might politicize the cases a little too much. The writers and producers have a long way to run with this thing.

"Get them off my island."

Season 8
ZinQ19 March 2018
I have loved this show for years, I have every season on DVD, I will not be buying season eight.

Season 8, is horribly bad. Alex has aged 10 years in one, the story lines, are absolutely laughable. One stupid episode after the other, It is now truly, truly bad.

Please end it now. So many good chances lost with a good new cast.

All male everything.
ceramarie22 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Stories are a bit tired and a lot is recycled from other crime shows. Mostly reviewing to point out that this has the standard misogynist storyline with 6+ male leads that are prominent throughout the entire series, but only 1 permanent female character. Varying levels of 'attractiveness' for men, but don't expect to see a woman with a BMI over 18 or a woman over 30 who isn't there for a 'reason' (relation to an existing character). This limits the storyline dramatically, and makes the series repetitive and flat. This is why BBC TV series are seeing a surge in popularity- they are more relatable while still keeping the exciting qualities. Aside from that, assuming the machismo is meant to reflect the original series- but it is outdated and obnoxious to have every male have the same canned personality.

That being said, mildly entertaining, but just a standard crime show that feels like a time- filler.

Firing Daniel and Grace who embodied well the island look, feel & spirit, while promoting someone like Jorge García who is completely out of place, have weakened and transformed the show into a lame joke of Hawaii. Not watching anymore.

Highly entertaining cop show
cosmic_quest8 February 2011
I have never seen an episode of the original 'Hawaii Five-O' (although I will certainly give it a go if it is ever repeated on television) so I have no preconceptions of what to expect with this rebooted version. However, I do love American cop shows and have been looking forward to this since I first heard it was being produced. For those unfamiliar with the premise, the show is set in Hawaii and centres on a newly formed police unit consisting of ex-Navy SEAL Steve McGarrett, New Jersey detective Danny Williams (who has grudgingly moved to Hawaii to be with his young daughter), wrongly disgraced Hawaiian detective Chin Ho Kelly and his rookie cousin Kono Kalakaua (who, apparently, was a guy in the 1970s version but is played by Grace Park in this version).

'Hawaii Five-O' is very much a light, fast action show and doesn't pretend to be anything more. To watch this show, you are required to sit back, relax and suspend your belief. since the characters and story lines are the television version of 'Bad Boys' and 'Lethal Weapon'. As a fan of shows like 'LA Heat' and 'Fastlane', it is refreshing to see the car chases, cop banter and beating up of bad guys that is found in 'Hawaii Five-O'. If you are wanting realism and dark story lines then watch 'Criminal Minds' or 'Blue Bloods' instead, both of which are also good for different reasons to why this show is enjoyable. There is so much realism on television today that I do like something that is pure and simple fun although I do hope that as the show progresses, we will see the characters develop and strengthen.

It certainly a show that deserves a look-in. Even if one doesn't like the characters or the story lines, it's worth watching just to see beautiful Hawaii and the wonderful sun (for British viewers, this is probably the only chance we'll get to see the sun until June, if then!).

Great start, but started to go downhill
mariokartlover26 January 2020
I loved the first season of this show: the action, the acting, everything was great. I'd give season 1 a 9/10. But then when season 2 began the plots became more and more ridiculous and the episodes were getting repetitive. I've decided to stop watching and move on to another show worth more of my time.
