Back to being funny
chunkylefunga19 December 2021
This show can be hit or miss but this episode is definitely a hit.

Man did I belly laughed at a fair chunk of this episode.

I find it weird when the cleanshirt woke brigade watch these kind of shows and complain about the humour. You are not the target audience, jog on and go watch songs of praise or something.

This episode was great for being a bunch of lads mucking about. Hopefully once covid is over the show can go back to having actual tours.

Hilarious!

Warning: Spoilers
Based on the reviews, it seems this episode was very polarizing; either people loved it, or they hated it. I'm in the former camp, as the "dropping the car from a helicopter" suspension test, and the catapult at the end, had me laughing my ass off, and the drive up the mountain was funny as well. But most of all, all the banter between the trio was on point, even though they didn't really argue this time around. This felt like taken out of an old Top Gear episode to me, and I loved it. I'm also now convinced the French are nuts, the stories about all the riots with wanton destruction as a result of the government trying to implement new rules, holy crap...I have to admit the roundabout segment had me cringing though.

Viva la revolution

Loved this special on cars of France, the challenges were hilarious, I literally laughed non stop. The parodies of French culture felt spot on and I loved that they had their French intern in the race.

The trio is back at it

Extremely enjoyable, having been to France twice there is a significant amount of truth to the episode. Both times plans were canceled due to strikes and protests. I was sitting in a cafe in Paris and legitimately watched someone park like Hammond and sat absolutely astonished no one batted an eye or yelled at them, now it all makes sense. Personally I absolutely have treated some of my cars precisely how the episode depicted, smacking mirrors off on trees, ripping exhausts off on things, pushing (ramming) friends who needed a push, eventually abandoning my car at a rest stop after cutting the roof off. Perhaps I'm a bit more french than I thought. Good chemistry, good cinematography, enjoyable watch.

Well. That was just plain fun.

The Boys are back indeed. Craziness run amok. I was waiting for this one. Looking diligently to see what time it was in the UK. When GMT struck midnight I started looking for the show. Didn't come till nearly 1 a.m. GMT (8 p.m. My time). But as soon as it was on I tuned in, or logged on. Whatever we do these days. Just so long as I didn't have to adjust the rabbit ears on my set.

Now everything is back to normal!

At least for one hour.

This is absolutely the old "Top Gear feeling".

I just wonderful entertaining episode that everyone should enjoy, even if you don't have any interest in cars.

Lighthearted Romp

Through UK making gentle fun of French cars. Lot's of the trio's standard sight gags recycled. The hillcross race bit went on a bit too long. Good overall return for end of the year viewing.

Go back to basics please
hmnz-09317 December 2021
All i want is 3 similar cars going to some destination with some normal tests and some funny tests inbetween with bickering about who has the best car. Stop changing the winning formula you guys had and go back to what worked best.

I would rather see best luxury hatch and see an rs3, A45 AMG and a golf r or who has the best 4WD and hear how everyone thinks they have the best and doing tests to prove it.

I miss the old topgear days tbh.

3 amigos do it again

The Citroen suspension test had me crying with laughter.-rest of the show is funny as fokk. Mountains and trebuchets what could go wrong -i wish they would make more frequent episodes and not like a UFO sighting sparse.

Mindless destruction
zjfa14618 December 2021
Surely they can make good TV without continuously destroying perfectly good car after car. They must have written off 15+ cars and some of them would have been great little cars like the lydden hill cars. Its all just so scripted and unfunny nowdays. Give up on this formula, you have done it to death..

Back to their finest
davidmkuhn18 December 2021
This was excellent, a bit different to what we know but as someone who has been following them for almost 2 decades, it reminds me that they still have it.

This was just a barrel of laughs from beginning to end, really enjoyed it.

The fact some reviews giving it 10 stars can't spell "French" or "France" speaks volumes about who will enjoy this tired special. I'm a big fan of these three idiots and loved watching them in Top Gear and The Grand Tour. But it's time to hang up their boots and retire.

Middling xenophobic ranting. Shame.

Fun, but not a special
vidardanielsson17 December 2021
While this episode was a fun one and I'm always excited when the trio is back, it did not feel like a special, it felt more like several separate mini-episodes with the only common factor being french cars. The specials are so great thanks to the unexpected (expected) funny things that happen on their journey's. This episode felt nothing like a journey. Hopefully we can blame this on covid.

A disappointment.
magnushaugo-4998217 December 2021
This was a really bad special. It feels more like a sub par episode of GT or TG.

The guys are legends. But if this is all you can come up with for a Christmas special, we would've been better of watching previous episodes.

Good return to form
chrischapman-4754526 December 2021
The boys produce an episode which is better than recent ones (due to the return of writer/editor Richard Porter?) Intelligent and often apparently spontaneous humour with a real understanding and affection for the cars. It might upset a few Francophiles but there is actual respect for the country. Others have said that the race sequence is a bit long (Andy Wilman usually takes ages carefully editing the show but there may have been a shortage of material due to Covid restrictions) Some sequences and comments are a bit OTT but it all hangs together and it serves to show how much Top Gear has gone down the pan in their absence.

Loved it
twanster-9765530 December 2021
I can't wait to see them travelling outside of Europe again, I think the best specials are done in tropical places or places that provide epic challenges, the bridge building special is still by far the greatest, along with the African special. This one gave us plenty of laughs, given the current covid restrictions they're limited but their silliness and chemistry carry every episode they do. I always prefer them in older cars compared to modern ones. Keep them coming, can't wait for the next one, would even love to see them team up on Clarksons farm to bridge the gap.

The best special the GT has ever made
malcolmjohnston19 December 2021
Oh what a joy to see the 3 old men still larking about poking fun this time at the French their cars and their general Frenchness Fantastic hour spent laughing at the same old jokes and the same old skits but they just seem a little more funny in these overly politically correct days of beige and bland people not wanting anything or anyone to offend LONG MAY THIS SHOW KEEP ANNOYING THE UP TIGHT BRIGADE THAT HAVE TRIED TO GET CLARKSON & CO BANNED FROM OUR SCREENS.

Best episode of 4th season by far
acsavulescu21 December 2021
This episode (no. 4) was the best in season 4 so far.

A lot of fun, fooling around, destroying cars, making fun of the French etc.

Also, it is about cars, not like the other previous 3 which were more about boats and other crap.

Keep them coming guys!

Lacking the extravagance of previous season 4 specials
magnifiquejaune21 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm always excited to see them on their adventure going around the World doing those hilarious adventure combined with those panoramic scenes, some raw emotions of the moment within this super scripted Tour.

When I saw the trailer I was mildly curious and interested in the whole premise of exploring the French Cars cultures in a beautiful Country.

It was mostly filmed in the UK, There was a race - which was the climate imo of this episode, and some stunt that were on part with an average GT Episode. Overall underwhelming.

Didn't really touched the French sport car scene. No funny local racing, nor boating or whatever racing vehicle they usually get.

It felt like a "low budget" special compare to their average extravagant episode which gives us some views in Mongolia or an African country.

This was a vulgar attempt at depicting French driving culture. While it would have been amusing if it was integrated in a small portion of this documentary it was way to long and was hardly the level of content I was expecting.

Passable at best as we did have some curiosities in the vehicles they drive and classic french cars were shown and demonstration of the why it's curious, stupid and brilliant at the same time was very much saving this whole subpar special!

More like an Episode rather than a Special, but a bloody good one
slingu21 December 2021
I loved this episode! It really feels like "old top gear", just these three doing what they do best! Don't expect a special where they travel the world, its more like a parody/ review of the french culture.

Editing Issues...?
Crooksto18 December 2021
To me it felt like there were problems in the edit and things had been placed in the wrong order. Jeremy saying 'I'm sure you've had enough of those crashes' after a scene that featured no crashes. And some segments seemed very short like they barely got going before we switched to another segment (propeller car). Didn't have flow or logical chronology to it.

But I enjoyed it, nevertheless.

Best Grand Tour episode so far
xxixxek19 December 2021
They're back! The houmour we know from old Top Gear, ridiculous tests, nonsense actions and tone of technical knowledge. I didn't laugh that much for a long time! And one more thing: ignore bad reviews, they are written by French 😁😁😁

Its not Childish anymore & that's why its boring
suvechhabose19 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
M not a French , i have never been to france I have never been to china & many other countries , but the way Jezza represents countless countries tg/gt ever got was hilarious. They mocked , they judged ,they got hurt , the trio took life threatening risks & thats why all the previous adventures were so funny .

This episode feels like it was shot just besides Clarkson's farm. The trio feels lifeless. James punches towards jezza are pathetically weak & Hammond is acting like a normal human being with typical northern sarcasm.

& Believe me nobody gives a damn about 60s french cars , no one. I sure don't give a damn about Italian cars if next special is going to be on Italy.

These three crossed rivers , they crossed rotten bridges , went to north pole ,made an electric car before tesla , went to Africa (twice) , came out of Syria , china , Chernobyl alive .

To do this? Roam around a grass field & judge cars without humiliating each other?

Mate its not better than current Top Gear then. Mind you its not their age, I love this trio because of their childish bickering & insults towards each other. Take that out ,its just another car show.

The Grand Disappointment
amam-3559217 December 2021
I wasn't sure how this episode was going to play out as I didn't even know it was being released. Thankfully I didn't wait in anticipation for weeks as once again the guys deliver another sub par outing.

Don't get me wrong I understand the restraints surrounding Covid but I'd rather have waited another 6 months rather than watch this boring poke fun at the French again episode which was obviously filmed in the UK!

Whilst the recent 'special' episodes have been a mixed bag I have re-watched them several times since (maybe not Lochdown so much).

I'd love to have seen them have a race again or possibly go back to them bantering eachother on a regular basis.

I love thses guys they are so funny when they are on top form but since Seamen it has failed to entertain.

Better up next time guys I just hope there is a next time after this👍

Like a French car... Great, but some parts are missing
Skinflint9417 December 2021
A fun watch and positive take on the rather strange French culture. The show is not in France itself unfortunatley. They are also not realy on an epic journey or grand tour... So that is a bit missing in my opinion. Wales as a backdrop is beautiful though. The activities they undertake, the humor, and the cars are great as always! Maybe next time a real epic journey again? Through scandinavia with old Saabs and Volo´s, zenvo´s, Koenigsegg et cetera?
