FBI agent Virginia 'Red' Sullivan (Felicia Day), a descendent of Little Red Riding Hood, brings home her fiancé, FBI agent Nathan Keswick (Kavan Smith), to meet her werewolf-hunting family -- Grandmother (Rosemary Dunsmore) and brothers Marcus (Greg Bryk) and Jake (David Reale). While out walking alone that evening, Nathan is attacked and bitten by a werewolf with the ability to phase at will. Since the only way to break the curse is to kill the werewolf who bit Nathan before he makes his first kill, the Sullivans begin hunting for the werewolf, with only the name 'Gabriel' to go on.
Red: Werewolf Hunter is a Syfy channel television film, very, very loosely based on the nursery tale of 'Little Red Riding Hood'. The teleplay was written by Brook Durham based on a storyline by Angela Mancuso.
Gabriel has devised a 'game' whereby the werewolves lure unsuspecting travelers from the highway and take them to the town of Tanner's River where they keep them imprisoned. During the full moon, he releases them into the woods so that the werewolves can hunt the humans for sport. For the newly-created werewolves, this is an opportunity to make their first kills and prove what they're made of.
Nathan escapes his cage in the basement and kills Grandma, thus sealing his fate. Red kills Gabriel by plunging a silver-tipped sword into his heart, but it is too late to save Nathan. Red dons her red riding hood and goes looking for Nathan, but Nathan attacks her and bites her in the neck. The next morning, she locates Nathan hiding in the stone ruins of an old building. Nathan pledges his love for her, saying that he wants a life with her and promising to find a way to stop the change. As they embrace, Red stabs him through the heart, knowing that it's the only way to keep herself from becoming a werewolf. The movie ends with her reading the story of Little Red Riding Hood to a little girl, presumably her daughter, as a wolf howls in the distance.
