Sometimes in our society, we tend not to be as forthcoming in the way we feel about someone for fear we are making the other person feel bad. This is basically the theme running through this chapter of the sitcom.
Jay has a problem accepting the Hoffmans, a couple they met in Cabo San Lucas during a vacation. The couple is just plain dull. Imagine his surprise when he walks into his house and finds the couple visiting after a trip the Hoffman just returned from. Gloria had invited them to go out to dinner, so Jay must go, as well. At the table, Jay cannot take it anymore and tell the Hoffman how he feels about them, something that comes as a shock. Gloria, as the Hoffman are waiting for a taxi, tells them an untruth: Jay is losing his marbles!
At the Dunphy's meanwhile, Phil and Claire tells us how much they enjoy mindless gory, and cheesy films. There is even one such film playing at their multiplex. Alex, who had been preparing for an important test, offers she is competing against Vijay, a classmate whose parents are professionals. After Claire and Phil are ready to enjoy their film, they run into Vijay's parents who are going to see an arty French film. Claire is ashamed to be seen going into the theater of the film they wanted to see, and goes into where they are showing the other film. She falls asleep, while Phil returns to the movie he had wanted to see and has a great time.
Mitchell and Cameron run into Tracy, a young woman he dated in high school. He confesses to his partner about a sexual encounter he and Tracy had on the anniversary of their 10th class reunion. When Mitch asks Tracy to meet, she refuses. Later, he spots her from a distance talking to a red headed young person. Feeling Tracy got pregnant after their tryst, he decides the boy must be his. Little prepares him, or Cam, who had a hard time accepting, the surprise and embarrassment they will feel after a visit to Tracy.

Dan O'Shannon, Bill Wrubel and Elaine Ko were responsible for the fun time everyone gets. The basic premise is carried through the three families with fantastic results.
