You never use the same crapper twice
zombiehigh1819 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Hunters never go back to a town they worked a job in before, simply because they leave too much mess behind. But this time Sam has to go back, ignoring all the warning signs and Dean's concerns about him because he "Has a freaking soul now and it won't just let him walk away", He promised his brother and promised himself he would fix things but he has no idea how bad those things were.

The younger Winchester won't be given a break, He has to face the ruthless actions of his soulless self along with the awful cracks in the wall leaking memories of Hell. (I just wanted to scream to Supernatural writers, Please give the guy a break, why does he always have to suffer? But other wise it would be a very boring show)

Anyway, Jared Padalecki delivered yet another brilliant performance portraying the two sides of Sam Winchester. Through some great flashbacks, We saw the cold, ruthless, methodical and uncaring RoboSam versus the horrified sympathetic caring soft Sammy, who is doing everything in his power to redeem himself. But will Sam ever be granted forgiveness or like Roy told him "You killed one monster and you made so many more"? this is the story of his life. How will Dean deal with the cracks in his brother's wall? Will they ever fix him?

As for Samuel, I'm really trying so hard to like the guy, But I just can't. I understand he wants his daughter back, I can sympathize with that. But a couple of episodes ago we saw him selling out his grandsons and now through those flashbacks, We saw him standing down watching Sam doing horrific actions without even lifting a finger to stop him, What kind of hunter is that? How am I supposed to believe he helps people?

Finally, I'm still wondering who was the real monster of the weak here? Is it Roy the Arachne who wanted to avenge his gloomy fate? Or is it RoboSam with all his unredeemable actions?

Scratching the Wall
claudio_carvalho28 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Sam receives a text about the disappearance of four young women and together with Dean, they head to Bristol, Rhode Island, to investigate the case. Sam has flashbacks with recollections from the town and he partially remembers that he had been in the spot one year ago to investigate missing men, and he believes that the cases are connected. The mystery increases when Dean discovers that Sam had had love affairs with the missing girls. When Sam meets the widow Brenna Dobbs, whose husband Sheriff Roy Dobbs had also disappeared, he finally recalls Arachne's case and what has happened to Roy.

"Unforgiven" is another engaging episode of Supernatural where we can see some of the evil things that Sam did while he had no soul. Like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Sam did unforgiving things and now that he has scratched the wall built by The Death, he will probably suffer the consequences of what he did along that period. My vote is nine.

Soulless Sam's past

We see flashbacks and Sam wants to clean up a mess he left behind. The episode is ok, i love the run in with the law thing they had in the beginning seasons but it gets old

A nice slice of noir
CubsandCulture7 April 2020
This is one of the few episodes that largely works as a mystery and while the resolution is fairly guessable it is one of the most suspenseful episodes in the run of the show. The visuals are pushed into noir-ish shooting style-the black and white flashbacks were great-and that was a nice break from normal style of the show. Add in that this Soulless Sammy at his most calculating and chilling and this is an overall great episode. It's a high point of this season.

Worse Editing Than Battlefield Earth.
mcpuffin-1668426 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is filled with flashbacks and each flashback is done in the worst possible way. They do sideways camera angles and cheap quick editing as well as black/white contrast. Not only is it physically difficult to watch but the writing is also hilariously bad. A citizen unlocks a prison cell because they somehow had the key for no reason and then she says "tie me up so it looks like a breakout". Why would an unlocked cell look like a breakout. People don't break out of prison by unlocking the cell. I can't believe this episode was even aloud to be aired it's so badly done in every way.
