Could have been better, could have been worse

It was interesting to see Supernatural tackle fairy lore, which actually has a lot more horror potential than most people realize. If you look at old-school, traditional fairy lore, it's actually pretty dark, and includes some pretty nightmarish creatures. It was the Victorians who began to romanticize them, and then Disney made the cutesy image of the little sprite with wings universally known to the point where that's the only image of fairies that most people have these days. But if you read some of the older tales, or listen to still-current ones in rural Ireland or Scotland, fairies are anything but cute and harmless.

I liked that they touched on a little of that, with the presence of the Redcap who was stalking Dean (Redcaps are a particularly nasty sort of fairy from Scottish folklore, who are known for eating lost travellers, and dye their caps red with human blood), but I was a bit disappointed that they couldn't resist throwing in the Disney version of fairies as well - though I have to admit the fight scene with that one was hilarious, as was the way it was resolved.

The parallels between UFO and fairy abductions have actually been pointed out by quite a lot of people before this - I've seen that topic dealt with by everyone from folklorists to science fiction authors.

Overall, a pretty entertaining episode, though not one with a lot of substance. But someday I'd love to see a show that took full advantage of the horror-potential of traditional fairy lore, without feeling the need to include the stereotypical Disney image.

Fight the Fairies
zombiehigh1817 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
A comic episode! We haven't had one of those in a very long time and it has some decent fun in it. I'm still enjoying the Soulless Sam storyline Yet I'm missing good old Sammy now and I hope they don't stretch it any further because it would turn the humour into sheer annoyance. Jensen and Jared were pretty funny all through the episode and I like how John F. Showalter directed it. I strangely enjoyed Dean's encounter with the Fairy as well as the parallel scenes where the Fairies are beating the crap out of the brothers.

Robert Picardo is yet another proof the casing team are doing a great job, so sad he had a little screen time.

Finally, Sam was definitely lying to Dean, We know damn well he is having second thoughts about having his soul back. Why would he want it if he is a better hunter and having fun with hippie chicks?

A Funny Joke with The X-Files
claudio_carvalho25 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
When a fourth person vanishes in Elwood, Indiana, and the witnesses claim that they have been abducted by aliens, Dean and Sam head to the town to investigate the UFO sightings. They contact the father of the lasts victim, Mr. Brennan, who is a traditional watchmaker, and the Winchester brothers suspect that the man is hiding something.

Dean and Sam interview people on the streets expecting to find a clue. Among the interviewees, they talk to the UFO expert Wayne Whittaker Jr. and the apparently crazy Marion, who is an expert in fairies. While investigating the cornfield where the victims had disappeared, Dean is abducted by a bright light. Sam continues to investigate and forces Brennan to disclose that he had used a spell to summon fairies to help him in his store. Dean returns and now the only chance of the brothers is are the advices of Marion about the fairies.

"Clap Your Hands If You Believe" is a funny joke with The X-Files, in a story that begins with UFOs and ends with fairies and Leprechaun. This is one of the most entertaining episodes that I have seen, with great lines and situations. My vote is nine.

A Magnificent Episode!
Red_Identity19 November 2010
Clap Your Hands If You Believe is another strong episode of the sixth season. It is the season's 2nd comedy episode, and it is certainly at the top of the show's best comedic episodes. It has some really great writing, some hilarious moments, and one particular scene that is perhaps one of my favorite scenes of the entire series. The scene I am talking about is Dean's first encounter with a fairy. The episode is really well directed, and as a whole it continues the season's new tone and great cinematography. Hopefully the writers continue with great episodes like this, and they have proved that they know how to make fun of themselves. The absurdity of the 'evil' this week is what makes it even more funny, and especially knowing what hurts and brings fairies around.

I believe 👏👏👏👏👏

Very funny episode. After the drama of the rest of the season, it was refreshing to see a good comedic episode. Dean's reactions are hilarious & Sam's lack of empathy hits great high notes. Loved this episode.

Has some classic moments
CubsandCulture7 April 2020
This is one of the better season 6 episodes. It has a couple of classic gags and moments. The use of fairies, UFO's is not obvious and nice change of pace. There's a couple of great zingers. But it never quite raises to the best of the best episodes.

A real fun episode

For some reason I like the first episodes in season 6 where Sam has no soul. When he is "normal", he is a more weak and always end himself up being hit by the monsters.

So funny!
jackiehedstrom2 December 2022
A perfectly written, acted and directed comedy episode! The dialogue is so good, and the fight with "Tinkerbell" and the microwave is superb! Jensen and Jared are really good comedy actors, and they really get to explore that here. The ad-lib line about "why didn't I do that before?" is also perfect - almost breaking the fourth wall in this one.

Soulless Sam is so much lighter, and effortlessly funny when being his "authentic self".

The way they pull off episodes like this in the middle of a very dramatic series is one of the biggest strengths of Supernatural.

And the title just makes you smile from the start.

Better Run Man, I Think the Fourth Kind is a Butt Thing!

Warning: Spoilers
A lot of people try and say that the first five seasons of this show were the best. I have to disagree, there's a bunch of good episodes in season six. This is one of those.

I love how this episode is at the expense of the X-Files and features Robert Picardo from Star Trek. If I had a wishlist for a Supernatural episode, this would have definitely been on it. One of my favorites.

From the abduction to the microwave to Soulless Sam, this episode is amazing.

Fairytale

Warning: Spoilers
One of the funniest episodes! Begins with the great intro, x-files style...and then the fairies! Dean encounter with the flying little naked lady is hilarious...and the fight the fairies scene made me laugh so hard! Great idea to included Robert Picardo in this episode! I love also all the Pinocchio references regarding soulless Sam, it's nice that they deal with Sam's soullessness in a funny way for a change...Sam and Dean's quarrels in the motel room and in the diner are hilarious! Probably Dean's way to sell the concept of a Soul to Sam isn't so wise...why would Sam want his Soul back when he could bang hippie girls with no regrets?

Visually brilliant, but not plot-wise
alashakhan12 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is the most visually brilliant episode of the previous 5 seasons. You can see that with the naked eye.

It is, however, extremely silly and some of the details here seem to have been done for the sake of a joke. For example, why did the leprechaun start counting grains of sugar that Sam dropped on the floor? It doesn't make any sense!

This episode introduces new concepts to the world of Supernatural that have never been mentioned before. And I wouldn't want it to be canon, but well, what can you do now.

Well, yeah. Still, the editors of this episode did a great job. And even if I didn't like the beginning of Season 6 too much, this episode cheered me up, and everyone else who watched it.

Hilarious bits, ridiculous lore
shwetafabm20 June 2020
One of the most funny scenes the show has had, soulless Sam was a delight, i wanted to see more of him. The lore and how they got it was just too on the nose, too ridiculous
