  Clark Kent : Lionel.

  Clark Kent : Why? So you can force him to fulfill a destiny that you control? I won't let that happen.

  Lionel Luthor : If you had the power to send me back, you would have done it already.

  Clark Kent : This world changed Lionel Luthor once and it will again. There's still hope for you. If you can let go of your hate, you may see your son again.

  Lionel Luthor : You think I'm going to corrupt Alexander. No. I'm not the one who taught him to hate you, Clark, you did that.

  Clark Kent : Sometimes all we need is someone to believe in us no matter what. And that kind of faith is a beacon. It gives us hope and it gives us a guidance, sometimes even the courage to change. I'll never stop trying to help Alexander. Never.

  Alexander Luthor : I was trying to kill *him*. I thought he'd blur in front of the bullet. The kryptonite would tear through him. But he didn't come. He wasn't there to protect her.

  Lionel Luthor : D-don't worry, son. I'm here now to protect you. No one will ever find out what happened today.

  Alexander Luthor : Will you help me kill Clark?

  Lionel Luthor : I betrayed you for that boy in another life, but now, here... we've got another chance. We'll work together. You're my flesh and blood. My only son. With my help, you will succeed. You will rule our family dynasty. No matter what it costs.

  Lionel Luthor : It doesn't matter where I'm from, Lutessa, I am still your father. And as far as this trusting world believes, the same man who successfully faked his own death.

  Tess Mercer : Which also makes you the same man who abandoned me.

  Lionel Luthor : Interesting, because in my world, you're the one who turned your back on me.

  Tess Mercer : I'm sure I had my reasons.

  Lionel Luthor : Oh, you did. I neglected you, Lutessa. But I won't make that mistake again. Clark opened the door between worlds, and that's given me a second chance to put things right between us. To be the father you always wanted.

• Tess Mercer : What exactly do you want, Lionel?

  Lionel Luthor : To provide for my family. For you, and for your brother. I was a fool. I... turned my back on you for someone who betrayed me.

  Tess Mercer : Well, Clark was never yours in this world. And Lex is dead.

  Lionel Luthor : That is a lie, Tess. You saved Lex.

  [showing her a printout of Alexander's medical report]
