  [putting his knife in her hands and pointing it at himself] 

  Desaad : Kill me. Your friends will all die if you don't.

  Chloe Sullivan : Trying to get me on wrath now, huh? Nice try. But I'm stronger than that.

  [a vision of another Chloe appears] 

  Chloe Sullivan : We are stronger than that, aren't we? We can resist any temptation, but what if we're doing it to save our own souls when we could be saving the world?

  Chloe Sullivan : I will not take a life, period.

  Chloe Sullivan : Good girl. Stay strong. Beat him at his own game. Feels good, doesn't it? To be better than all of those that fell before him.

  Chloe Sullivan : [realizing]  Pride.

  Chloe Sullivan : That's our hubris, our fatal flaw. Our control issues, our grossly disproportionate sense of independence. Too proud to ask for help. That's why we vanished without a trace.

  Chloe Sullivan : Shut up.

  Chloe Sullivan : Too proud to face the fact that the world moved on without us.

  Chloe Sullivan : I said enough!

  Chloe Sullivan : All that effort you spent freeing yourself from your old identity, to suddenly give everything over for something lesser. For a relationship!

  Chloe Sullivan : [throwing the knife away]  Go to hell.

  Desaad : No. It'll be here soon enough. Sadly, you've grown just as useless as that knife. Tell me, Chloe. When's the last time you had a nice, hard cry?

• Agent Vactor : Hands where I can see them!

  Chloe Sullivan : Come on. Again?

  [turning around] 

  Chloe Sullivan : Mr. Jones. Or... Agent...

  Agent Vactor : Vactor. And whoever you are, you're under arrest for impeding a federal investigation.

  Chloe Sullivan : [he starts to handcuff her]  Listen, you have no idea what you're dealing with here.

  Agent Vactor : No, what you don't understand...

  [he begins to hemorrhage blood from his eyes, ears, and nose, then falls over dead] 

  Chloe Sullivan : Desaad.

  Desaad : He really didn't have a clue. But not you. You know all about me.

  [magically throwing her against a wall, knocking her unconscious] 

  Desaad : I think it's only fair if I get to know you a little better.

• Clark Kent : Forensics said it was all right to come by and follow up on the mass-grave story.

  Desaad : [offering a handshake, Clark notices his bloody gloves]  Sorry. I've just been so wrapped up in all of this, it was only a matter of time before I made a mistake.

  Clark Kent : Clark Kent, Daily Planet.

  Desaad : Blayne. Yeah, sorry about the mess. I've been working faster than usual. Hell to pay if the boss finds out I've been slacking off.

  Clark Kent : I'll try not to take too much of your time. Is there any word on the cause of death?

  Desaad : Yeah, she suffered a system-wide hemorrhage. Starting with the heart. You know, if they hadn't found the bodies all grouped together like that, I'd say natural causes, but...

  Clark Kent : There's nothing natural about it. Someone did this to these people. Makes you wonder what kind of a person could do such a thing.

  Desaad : My guess is... someone who's given in to his, or her, darkest urges. From the number of bodies, probably someone who really enjoys it, too.

  [Clark uses his microvision to spot three dots on the victim's hand] 

  Desaad : Did I miss something?

  Clark Kent : Did the rest of the bodies have this?

  Desaad : [taking a closer look]  I'll be damned. Nice eye.

  Clark Kent : If so, there might be a connection we can make between...

  Desaad : Ah. I'm the guilty one.

  [holding up his hand] 

  Desaad : Had a pen pop earlier while I was taking notes. Had you going for a second, huh? Sorry.
