Smallville's 'Hangover' - loved it!
JiS8713 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Probably the best 'The Hangover'-parody I saw encountered in movie or tv! Many copied scenes, from the beginning to the casino (and the monkey instead of the tiger), but especially the hilarious recorded ending was a big giveaway :) Quite enjoyed it, I can't remember I ever laughed this much on any Smallville episode...

And there is so much melodrama and seriousness in this show already and mostly, in this dark(seid) season, that a light hearted episode like this, the greatest superhero bachelor party ever for the greatest superhero, was quite welcoming! It was a risk, but it paid off - thanks to priceless scenes and a total funny, unexpected plot (Oliver as draq queen must be the best)...! Now it's a full countdown towards the big finale!

The Drunken Magic Circus : Smallville's characters like you have never seen them before

Still hesitating to watch Fortune ? Five reasons to convince you !

First, Chloe pulling a Castor Troy in a night club with a deadly look on her innocent face. Second, Clark in the blur and… Well you know what the man is capable of ! The most hilarious Smallville scene ever last only a few split seconds but you'll replay it dozens of times. Actually I wish they had based the whole episode on its concept. Third, Lois obsessive and entertaining ring quest. Or was Erica Durance mimicking Teri Hatcher in Lois & Clark : The New Adventures of Superman ? Two Lanes to rule them all ! Fourth and not least, Oliver on heels. The Tour Eiffel is alive ! Drop-dead gorgeous, or not. But she definitely has the power ! Fifth, Tess the glamorous and funky witch has done it again.

Even if the rhythm was irregular overall it was a very funny episode filled with joyful and emotional moments. Still Serinda Swan was missing when after reading the summary I was expecting her to come back as sexy Zatanna. Her seductive role in Warrior was so well done ! To sum things up it could have been better but in the end it's a must see considering the few super cult scenes it features.

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of Smallville's love it or hate it stories. The basic premise revolves around Clark and Lois having their Bachelor/Bachelorette parties. Throw in a brief mention of Zatanna casting a spell on them, and we have the first ever Superhero knockoff of the movie The Hangover.

To enjoy "Fortune" one has to go into it understanding that this is intended to be the most over the top, blatantly comical, ridiculous, absurd and silly episode, probably in the history of the 10 year run. I liked that instead of just filming 45 minutes of goofy gags, they actually wrote a highly complex plot involving mobsters, robberies and missing rings. Sure the plot is ridiculous, but the writers knew that. I laughed a lot and really had fun watching this episode. One major complaint I have comes from the final scene. This episode works only because they treat it like an hour long joke. Why they felt they needed to add the final moment between Tess and Emil, I have no idea. That moment at the end seemed completely irrelevant and tacked on, and spoiled an otherwise ridiculously fun story.

In the end many may find this a tough episode to like. if you don't suspend disbelief and throw away any hopes of a serious story within the first 5 minutes, you'll end up frustrated. If you watch "Fortune" as the near parody that it is, it can be a lot of fun to watch.
