Love, Laughter, and Cruelty

At first, I didn't like the Love Is a Many Strangled Thing episode, not because it was cruel, as many have said, but because it had completely departed from the original style of the series. But with the viewing method I invented, that's no longer a factor to consider. You start to enjoy modern episodes for their own identity. This allows you to see the humor in this episode, and it's not just jokes, but rather humorous dramatic effects. For example, it's hilarious to see the therapist making facial expressions of confusion or shock at the absurdity of Homer and Bart's character or the real situation of the episode itself. There are some good humorous moments in this episode that come from things like that, don't you think? I laughed out loud several times during the episode, which hasn't happened in a while after watching several episodes with my viewing method.

The problem is that even with this viewing method that separates your judgment from the classic seasons of the show, I still noticed that the snake in Homer's pants joke was very cruel. Sometimes it makes you want to cry for a defenseless character who doesn't deserve a scene like that, even if it's humorous, in which you see their mistreatment, and the character even makes a groaning sound of a poor man suffering without the possibility of revenge. Such gags certainly don't work and I find them cruel. It's sad to see the character treated that way. Additionally, some moments, like the Homer eating chicken thighs joke, make the episode look like it's trying too hard to be "Flanderized" and they detract from the overall enjoyment of the episode.

I hate this! This episode never should have existed. It's obviously a prototype Seahorse Seashell Party.

I don't think the people who make The Simpsons ever should have found child abuse funny just because Matt Groening thought he could make his own child abuse funny, and they don't care how bad that joke is anymore because they want to go Little Yellow Book on us by telling us Bart deserves to be abused with no consequences so he won't get worse (which I don't buy for one second) throwing any positive moments he had with Homer from previous episodes out the window. I don't care for Homer, Bart or Dr. Zander in this episode because they all want each other to die. It should have been about Homer thinking about how bad it would feel for someone to hurt him (like Lobster Claws did in Star vs. the Forces of Evil) and should not have suddenly turned Bart mean out of nowhere on a dime, like many bad The Simpsons or Spongebob episodes do. I like Paul Rudd, but I hate this episode and he deserves to have a better episode (which is why I liked having him in Steal This Episode). What is even scarier is that Homer, as a child, treated his father the same way - which I admit, was a little funny for a sense of misdirection in context. Any long-running series where the writers don't care about consistency in their characters because they are too careless to keep it any good will inevitably become as boring as heck, if they don't get too depressing first. I was so disturbed by this episode that I only scored 172 points!

Terrific episode with Paul Rudd and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in Great Guest Roles,

Love Is A Many Strangled Thing is a great Simpsons episode with a very well written storyline and loads of very funny scenes. This is without a doubt one of the best of the twenty second season,I loved the drama between Homer and Bart in this,it is very funny and we've never seen them in this position on the show previously.I loved Paul Rudd's character,he was without a doubt one of the episodes highlights,I also liked Kareem Abdul- Jabbar's appearance as himself and seeing him treat Homer the same way he treats Bart was hilarious.Love is a Many Strangled Thing is a stellar episode.

After embarrassing Bart at a baseball game,Homer is forced by Marge to take a parenting class. It works but Homer starts to become scared of Bart and Homer lets him do anything around him without punishment.

The good thing is the song called no more mr nice guy and Paul Rudd, the bad thing is that Bart was acting like a sociopath and he didn't even care about his dad dying and he also prank calls moe szyslak. Worst episode ever next to Lisa Goes Gaga, Homer's Night Out, Homer Vs Dignity, The Principal And The Pauper and The Boys Of Bummer.

Warning: Spoilers
After Homer embarrasses Bart he goes to Parent Counseling and it ends up working too well and then Homer too afraid to punish Bart and then counselors hang Homer from a tree to see if Bart would save him, he doesn't. Just a cruel episode I think what they try to do is make me hate Homer at first and make me feel bad for Bart, then make feel bad for Homer and hate Bart buy this make me hate both of them.

Good, though slightly disturbing. And definitely ironic.

Not a bad episode. As a matter of fact, it's actually a decent episode. It's much better to watch this episode than watch "The Principal and the Pauper"; etc.

This is the worst episode of TV I have ever seen

This episode is absolutely horrible, and you should never listen to anyone who tries to tell you otherwise. The Simpsons should be cancelled, and the writers should be put in the gulag for their crimes against the human race.
