Digging the Shamy !
kellielulu4 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The show struck gold with Sheldon and Amy and fortunately they capitalized on it. Penny ends up driving them to their first date. I am not usually a fan of dating episodes they are usually forced and unfunny. This one is one of rare exceptions. Amy is at this point still a new character and at this point she's pretty much a female version of Sheldon with just enough to distinguish herself. At one point Sheldon and Amy try to figure out how many sexual partners Penny has had out of scientific curiosity!

Meanwhile Howard uses the robotic hand he brought home from the university for various purposes one that lands him in the emergency room for a very embarrassing reason. The nurse on duty solved Howard's problem in short order by not overthinking it but using common sense.

There is also the usual amusing exchange between Howard and his mother.

10/ 10.

One of the Best episodes

Warning: Spoilers
When this show hits the marks, you could fall out of your spot laughing, This was one of those episodes. Without a doubt one of the best lines any actor/actress every uttered was Vernee Watson watching Wolfowitz being wheeled into the ER and then announcing over the PA, "I need a orderly with a wheelchair. I got a robot hand grasping a man's penis out here." This was a great show for one liners from just about every actor My wife and I have seen this episode at least a dozen times; and still, we just laugh at every joke from watching Penny, Sheldon, and Amy Farrah Fowler on "their" first date; to hearing Wolowitz say Winnie the Pooh is out of the honey pot.

"The Robotic Manipulation" was another very funny ep of "The Big Bang Theory"
tavm29 September 2011
In this first ep from the last season of "The Big Bang Theory": Howard has invented a robotic hand that can serve Chinese food in 28 minutes. He later uses it to...oh, let's go on. Penny, during the regular dinner conversation, finds out about Sheldon's texting with Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) and suggests a date with her if he and she want to procreate. I'll stop there and just say what another hilarious ep this was of this consistently funny series. Unfortunately, some of the audio from the broadcast that I recorded on my DVR was muted not to mention the video blackening for a few seconds. Still, the cast and writing was funny enough that once again, I highly recommend this episode of "The Big Bang Theory".

Would You Grab That for Me Please?
Hitchcoc8 October 2021
A wonderful beginning to the Fourth Season. For starters, Howard brings a mechanical hand into the apartment and tests it out, picking up Chinese food cartons. Eventually, Howard brings it to his room and decides to use it in an interestingly creative "male" way. This is hilarious enough but Penny then talks Sheldon into having his first date with Amy, but she has to drive. Excellent.

The Robotic Manipulation (#4.1)

Warning: Spoilers
Love this episode. Both stories are absolutely perfect. The date of Sheldon and Amy was hilarious. Love how Penny was trying to make them have conversation and where it went. Amy saying that she had intercourse 128 times was a perfect line. I really love this type of Amy. And Howard having a little accident with the robot arm also brought a lot of a laughter. And then it happened again!

For some reason the cast does not include the guest stars George Takei and Katee Sackhoff.

The Big Bang Theory is one of the greatest shows of all time. Every other show aspires to be put together this well. The people behind the scenes deserved to be commended for chosing fantastic writers and incredible actors to play the characters that have won the hearts of viewers.

The Robotic Manipulation
studioAT2 September 2023
I think the whole 'robot arm' plot line was a bit beneath a show as smart as 'The Big Bang Theory', and perhaps would have worked better on Chuck Lorre's other show 'Two and a Half Men'. I can certainly imagine Alan Harper doing something like what happens to Howard here.

That aside, this is a good episode, especially the Sheldon/Amy and Penny plot. It's all wonderfully played, and already you can see the signs that Amy was destined to play a big part in Sheldon's life, and the show as a whole. I thought Kaley Cucco was on good form as Penny too.

Four series in and it still feels like the show is finding its feet about what works and what doesn't.

Alone at last! OUCH!!!
thejcowboy2220 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
One snowy day I drove my wife and Pit bull Terrier Bunky over to my in-laws. The plan was simple, drop them off and walk the two blocks to the boulevard to open my Ice Cream shop. When we arrived luckily to my amazement there was a parking spot directly in front of my In-Laws home. No sooner when I parked my vehicle, my Wife stormed out of the car and ran into the house to relieve herself. That left me with the daunting task of getting my dog out of the back seat and into the house. Bunky wouldn't budge. My complacent, lethargic terrier laying on the backseat all comfy in the warmth. I yanked his leash and yelled, "C'mom, come on." He wouldn't move. I was standing on an icy patch of uneven snow. My feet gave out from under me as my body fell forward. The force of my torso slid toward the rear passenger door causing the car door to slam shut on my thumb. To make matters worse the doors locked and I was stuck with my left thumb pinned inside the door. I was too mad to remember any pain , only the embarrassment of being helpless in the frosty open air with my left hand stuck in a car door for the whole world to see. The Big Bang Theory is about two nerdy physicists who live a two bedroom Pasadena,California apartment. To exhibit their brilliance, they manage to destroy their elevator. Our leading characters are played by Johnny Galecki as lactose intolerant bespectacled cellist Leonard Hofstadler. His room mate Dr. Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) who intellectually comes off as strange. I could write paragraphs upon paragraphs describing the complex Sheldon but his performances throughout this sit-com are legendary. Despite Sheldon's brilliance he can't drive an automobile and when threatened he shows childlike qualities. When Sheldon pulls a gaffe or shows or displays ignorance toward basic sarcasm the response would be "I've been Tested!" Sheldon also displays O.C.D. and suffers from Mysophobia. They have friends /col-lieges down at the research center at California Polly Tec. Dr. Raj koothrapolli , (Kunal Nuyyar) an Indian Astrophysicist who is insecure, mostly about woman. RAj is petrified of the opposite sex. When questioned by Perky Nebraska born Penny (Kelly Cuoco) who lives across the hall from Sheldon and Leonard, Raj dummies up and uses his close pal Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg ) as a go between. Wolowitz is the a-typical nice nerdy Jewish boy. Howard received a Master's in Engineering from M.I.T. which for some reason doesn't impress the condescending Sheldon who trumps his personal success processing a Doctorate. Other first impressions of Howard show him to be diminutive in stature wearing child like clothing./ Howard shares a home with his bellicose Mom, (Carol Ann Susi) Not Shown, who yells at him over every mundane situation. Alone in his bedroom Howard constructed a robotic arm with working hand with all functioning digits. This devise was originally used as a back-rub . Howard wasn't only satisfied being pleasured that way, instead he re-positioned the machine to his genitalia in which the robot grabs his privates. One wrong push of a button and Howard could be castrated. Howard is in dyer need for help having this cumbersome devise stuck to his groin. He can't tell his Mom, so he calls his geeky friends for support as they head to the emergency room and further embarrassment. On another front, milder by comparison, Asexual Sheldon is ready to date Amy Fowler (Mayim Bialik) and recruits Penny to drive them on their first date. Clueless Sheldon picks up Amy who sits alone in the back seat of Penny's Car with Check Engine light still on, (another running gag in the series.) As for my stuck thumb I couldn't reach my keys in the other pocket or the door to open the car as electronic doors didn't apply in this 1980's vehicle. I yelled and screamed for help trying to scoop up some snow and throw it at the window to get my In-Laws attention. Finally my Sister-In-Law came out and just laughed at me. Being stuck is no fun!
