Isn't killing cute defenseless animals the first step in becoming a serial killer?...

Warning: Spoilers
I liked a lot about this episode...

The cutting between Elena, Stefan, Damon and Alaric talking about what the Lockwoods are and Tyler following Mason in the woods/discovering his werewolf cellar. Damon's line about Mason being Lon Chaney, Tyler being Lon Chaney Jr. and Bela Lugosi (meaning Damon) being totally screwed. For a moment there, when Duke was mentioned, I thought we might get to meet the infamous Duke who's a douche and goes to Duke. Alas, no. Maybe a future episode?

Elena and Stefan discussing Elena's road trip with Damon and Alaric, and how they both were very understanding of what the other was probably feeling. Elena offered to stay with Stefan if he didn't really want her to go (on account of Damon), and Stefan knew that it was important for her to learn more about her lineage/Katherine and wasn't stopping her. That she knew he hated it, and him admitting as much, was good. I'm glad he wasn't super jealous/protective boyfriend guy.

Jenna! I liked that she asked Alaric not to make the half-maybe-apology-hope-for-the-future thing. She had just the right attitude towards him. I liked their end scene too. About time Aunt Jenna got some lovin'!

Elena's look at Damon when he said "Sorry you can't come too, Stef.", and then her smooching Stefan (to get back at Damon for that comment and his "Oh, I'll take *really* good care of her." comment to Stefan).

The scene with Stefan, Caroline, Bonnie and the ring. There were things I both liked & disliked about this scene. I thought Bonnie was okay in the beginning, explaining her 'rules', but then she let her attitude towards vampires/Caroline get the better of her as the scene progressed. Thank goodness for Stefan, keeping the peace and being the mature one. Didn't approve of Bonnie opening the curtain/bathing Caroline in sunlight (when there was no guarantee it had worked), got a laugh out of Stefan's "Caaaaaaarrroline..." and Caroline's outraged "What if it HADN'T, Bonnie?!" reaction. Also liked the looks Caroline and Stefan exchanged after Bonnie walked out and Caroline admired her new ring.

Damon taking the arrow in the back/saving Elena, his "Just pull the damn thing out. It hurts." line, his reaction to it being pulled out and his "That bitch is dead!" line. I also liked their interaction immediately following the shooting and Damon's "I'd be *extra* nice to me right now." line to the woman (Vanessa) who shot him.

One of the best scenes of the episode: Stefan and Caroline's bunny-hunting lesson. Caroline's line about Stefan wanting her to eat bunnies and her kinda freaking out was amusing. I laughed right along with Stefan. I enjoyed hearing Stefan explain about how a human's personality is magnified when they're made a vampire. Paul/Candice are great together and every Stefan/Caroline scene is a winner.

Damon's eavesdropping on Elena and Vanessa talking about him and his comments, then Elena's line about how he's very capable of being a first-rate jackass.

More great Stefan/Caroline interaction with their talk of Stefan's "serious vampire look", "worried vampire look" and "Hey, it's Tuesday look".

Caroline's "You know, why is everyone sticking up for Aimee freaking Bradley?" line amused me. I loved Stefan smirking and her telling him to shut up. The interaction between these two is SO good! Caroline+Stefan=Entertainment.

Vanessa talking about the werewolf curse as we cut to Mason chaining himself up and Damon's "...Ooh." reaction to learning a werewolf bite is fatal to vampires.

The music playing along with the visuals of the sun setting were good.

The creepy atmosphere set up as Mason aka Lon Chaney (or Lon Chain-y, given the amount of chains involved) was changing.

Stefan getting a fright when he looked in the car and saw the wolf eyes.

Damon revealing to Elena that Katherine's real name was Katarina Petrova, his "Men snoop too, you know." line and him conceding that Elena had every right to hate him. I also liked him admitting it would suck if his "friendship" with Elena was gone forever/him asking if he'd lost her forever and Elena thanking him for the book. She gave him just the right amount of attitude. Not too bitchy, but not too forgiving either.

AT LAST! Wolfiness! I think TVD made a wise choice in deciding to go with an actual wolf (only using CGI to enhance its eyes), rather than running the risk of having some dodgy-looking monster suit. Glad that Tyler FINALLY learned his uncle's a werewolf.

Caroline protecting Matt from her vampire self by acting in such a way that he'd break up with her.

Damon finally being honest with Elena, admitting he hadn't seen the ring on Jeremy's finger, that Katherine caused him to snap, and his very sincere apology to her. Ian totally sold it.

Katherine appearing at the end to Caroline. Nina's SO good as Katherine, and I love the fact that we never know when she's going to show up (since she's not just played by some guest star whose appearance in the episode is spoiled by their name being in the guest star credits at the beginning).

This was a really good episode and a neat introduction to the werewolves. Things are moving along at a steady pace. Keep it coming, show.

Lon Chaney, Lon Chaney Jr. and Bela Lugosi
claudio_carvalho19 August 2013
Elena, Damon and Alaric head to Isobel's office at the Duke University while Stefan stays in Mystic Falls with Caroline. The group meets Isobel's assistant that believes that Elena is Katherine. Stefan succeeds in convincing Bonnie to cast a spell in a ring to protect Caroline against the sunlight and they go to an old Lockwoods real estate where Tyler has organized a party at a lake. Meanwhile Tyler follows Mason in the woods and discovers a secret underground prison. Later Mason chains himself but he leaves the place and transforms into a werewolf in his truck. When he attacks Stefan and Caroline, Tyler controls the beast and save his friends.

"Bad Moon Rising" introduces a new supernatural creature in Mystic Falls. Now the town has not only vampires and witch, but also a werewolf that is the natural enemy of vampires. Damon is responsible for one of the funniest and wittiest lines of this series, when he compares Mason with Lon Chaney, Tyler with Lon Chaney Jr. and himself with Bela Lugosi. Let's see how Caroline will behave after the rejection of Matt and the arrival of Katherine. My vote is seven.
