Bear jumps from a helicopter into West Texas's bone-dry, inhospitable Chihuahuan desert, where he turns a deadly rattle snake into a 'crunchy' meal. Sweating profusely under the scorching sun he finds even rivers fall dry often except when turning into a traitorous flash flood. His mountaineering and improvisation skills are tested to climb and descend canyons. Reaching a river to the mighty Rio Grande, he improvises a raft and braves the wild stream, intending to be spotted and picked up by the border patrol, which constantly scouts for Latino intruders from Mexico.
