HBO Max is developing a series about The Penguin that will be a spinoff of “The Batman” feature, Variety has learned from sources.
Colin Farrell is set to play the notorious supervillain in “The Batman.” According to sources, Farrell has been approached to star in the spinoff series but no deal is currently in place. Sources also say that Lauren LeFranc is attached to write the script for the project, which is in its very early stages.
The show would supposedly delve into The Penguin’s rise to power in the Gotham criminal underworld. “The Batman” director Matt Reeves and the film’s producer Dylan Clark would executive produce the Penguin series under their 6th & Idaho and Dylan Clark Productions banners respectively. Warner Bros. Television would produce.
Reps for HBO Max declined to comment.

The network may be late to the party, but it has started to unveil renewal decisions for some of its long-running series.
Yes, we now know the fate of more.
The list of renewed shows are as follows:
- NCIS (Season 18)
- NCIS: Los Angeles (Season 12)
- NCIS: New Orleans (Season 7)
- FBI (Season 3)
- FBI: Most Wanted (Season 2)

“Thanks to these exceptional shows, we’re going to win the current season by 1 million viewers,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment.
“Next year, we’ll have these strong returning series as our foundation…and Super Bowl Lv too. It’s a well-balanced lineup across Entertainment, News and Sports that will put us in an incredibly stable position for 2020-2021.”
None of these renewals are surprising in the slightest.

When Darren Barnet first auditioned for his role on Netflix’s Ya series “Never Have I Ever,” the name of his character was just “Paxton Hall.”
But when creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher found out that he had Japanese heritage, they asked the actor if he’d be interested in incorporating that into his character. And so, Paxton Hall-Yoshida was born — the good-looking jock with a heart of gold who becomes the object of protagonist Devi Vishwakumar’s (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) affection in the first season of the coming-of-age comedy.
When wardrobe designer Salvador Pérez Jr. heard Barnet speaking Japanese to assistant director Yuko Ogata, Fisher approached him to see if he’d be down to incorporating his heritage into the character. “I was like ‘Let’s do it!'” Barnet told TheWrap in a video-chat interview. “And the next thing I knew, I had a hyphenated Yoshida at the end.

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted on-location filming in greater Los Angeles with an 18% decline so far this year, according to a report released Thursday by the FilmLA permitting agency.
“After starting strong in January, on-location filming in L.A. slowed in March following a series of voluntary cutbacks and progressively tightening public gathering limits,” FilmLA said. “The 1,091 local productions filming in February 2020 dwindled to 644 projects in March before filming ended completely on March 20. On that date, the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health and other state and local authorities issued complementary ‘Safer at Home” Orders, which closed the region to on-location filming until further notice.”
FilmLA said Thursday that with the shutdown poised to extend deep into the second quarter, overall 2020 production activity will wind up behind the 2019 total.
