Actor Vivek Oberoi has talked about his struggles, his values and his views on what it means to succeed and fail in Bollywood. Vivek, who made his debut in 2002 with Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Company’, became an instant hit with his powerful performances in films such as ‘Saathiya’, ‘Yuva’, ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’, ‘Omkara’ and ‘Rakht Charitra’ among many others.
However, he tasted failure with duds such as ‘Prince’, ‘Dum’, ‘Kyun! Hogaya Na’, ‘Naksha’ and ‘Home Delivery: Aapko… Ghar Tak’ among many others.
Recently, in an interview with Dubai-based podcast Ab Talks, Vivek revealed that he had never really taken money from his father and actor Suresh Oberoi, and for his ‘launch’ into the industry he was determined to make his own way in. A snippet of the interview has been shared on Instagram.

Radhika Apte may be tagged as the next 'bold queen' of Bollywood, considering her roles in films like Badlapur and Hunterrr. However, she hardly cares for what people deem about her. She gives a damn to their perception.
She says, "I don't give it so much importance. I genuinely don't. It's just people's perception what can I do after a point. I am not going to do much to change their perception or I want to do is not get typecast. I just want to do my own work."

2010 has been a year that has taught the industry lessons. For starters, it has reiterated a fact that prominent filmmakers have been howling about for years now: good scripts equals a hit film. Not a star-studded cast, not a huge budget; a solid script. It also told directors that the Desi formula still works; viewers still love some good masala, their dssshkyuns and lots of dishooms. And as the year comes to a close, we are forced to allocate top accolades to films that created some hungama at the box office. However, this year it is almost impossible to draw a single list. In fact, that would be just plain wrong. So instead of counting down the top 10 popular films, we are doing a mixture of both. Our countdown will mesh both worlds: popular and critical, as we award the top 5 popular and top 5 critically acclaimed films of 2010.

Everyone wants a piece of Bollywood. From Surya, Priyamani in Rakht Charitra, Vikram in Raavan, Trisha in Khatta Meetha, Siddharth, Asin, the years gone by have seen many south stars making seamless crossovers to Bollywood.

Barely a week after the debacle of .Rakht Charitra., the indefatigable Ram Gopal Varma has decided to properly launch southern star Suriya with a more conventional romantic-action drama and the actor says he won.t mind teaming up with the director again.Apparently the people behind "Rakht Charitra 2" felt Suriya didn.t give the film the promotional pitch it required either in Mumbai or in Chennai and as a result it has bombed both in Hindi and Tamil. But Suriya defends himself saying: .Over here (in Tamil cinema) we don.t really go all-out to promote and market our films the way they do in Bollywood. You could say our marketing is more subtle. I don.t go out and sell any of my films to the audience...However, for .Rakht Charitra., I did make an effort to do more publicity than I usually do. Rakht Charitra 2 hasn't done well in Hindi, what with the opening being way below the mark. However in South where the film has its prime market, the film is doing bumper business. Enjoying a good opening in Telugu as well as Tamil, this revenge drama has seen quite a few takers, hence ensuring that there is a lot to cheer about for the makers, despite a setback in Hindi market. This is the reason why they would be enjoying quite a few take-away from the film though. Says a pr...

Break Ke Baad released a Friday ago and is now almost extinct at the box office, what with newer releases (Khelen Hum Jee Jaan Sey, Rakht Charitra 2, Phas Gaye Re Obama) occupying majority of screens in multiplexes all over. The film didn't see many favourable reviews coming its way on its release. Audience reception was so-so as well and eventually there wasn't much escalation in foot falls as this Kunal Kohli production further went downhill with every passing day.

Is Ramgopal Varma planning to make the third installment in the Rakht Charitra series? Well, the maverick film-maker may declare that the story he wanted to narrate concluded when Suriya [Suriya] assassinates Pratap [Vivek Oberoi] in Rakht Charitra 2, but looks like the film-maker has left the options open for the third installment of Rakht Charitra. For those who haven't watched the film, the last sequence depicts Vivek's new-born watching Suriya on a news channel, soon after Vivek has been assassinated. Of course, we are well aware that Rakht Charitra is inspired by a real-life story and there's no scope for the story to continue further, but Rgv could spin a yarn - a work of fiction - whereby Vivek's new-born grows up to seek revenge. However, Rgv dismisses the talk, when quizzed about the third installment. Incidentally, there's talk that Rgv and South superstar Suriya are planning to work together in another project,...

Although she holds a predominant place in South Indian Cinema, she is not very new to Bollywood. Earlier this year, audiences saw Priyamani in a small but significant role in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan. Though the movie fizzled without much of a mark, her act was noticed despite sharing space with the likes of Vikram, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The national award winner (for her tamil film Paruthiveeran) has a bag full of releases over the next few months spread across the dialects of Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
After Raavan, she was skeptical about moving to Mumbai and said in an interview that she wasn’t sure about doing more films in Bollywood. If there is anyone that has caught the attention from the Rakht Charitra movies besides its leading man, Vivek Oberoi, it's south sensation Suriya Sivakumar.
The actor, who is known for his charm and is a fan favorite in the South, will be seen in a more intense role for his debut in Hindi films. A role based on Maddelacheruvu Suri, he plays Suryanarayana Reddy, nemesis of Pratap Reddy, played by Vivek Oberoi. Rakht Charitra-2 focuses more on the story of Suriya's character and his desire for revenge. Set in Varanasi and subsuming the contradictory but compatible culture of Oriental spiritualism and touristic Westernization, Chandraprakash Diwedi's film to be produced by Crossword Entertainment is based on the celebrated Hindi novel 'Kashi Ki Assi' by Kashinath Singh. With Rakht Charitra, Ram Gopal Varma has not just won the hearts of many of his fans and followers all over again, he has also found new admirers from within the film fraternity. One such new entrant is Tamil superstar Suriya who has worked with Ramu for the first time in the Rakht Charitra, part two of which releases on 19th November."Ramu's clarity around the subject and how he wanted to execute it amazed me," says Suriya who is seeing his big Bollywood debut with Rakht Charitra, "All through these 30 days of shooting that I did with Ramu, I never saw him loose his cool even once. He actually works without any kind of emotion. The way he sets up the scene, the shot transition, the way camera focus changes, the zoom ins, lights and all - everything is so much well worked out in his mind itself.

Soon after paying respects at the Paritala Ravi memorial in Ananthpur, that he visited because he played the late politician in Rakht Charitra, the actor headed to the Alva residence where the ceremonies have already started. The process to launch the superstar from Tamil films has begun. Ramgopal Varma is going all out to launch the second installment of Rakht Charitra. The second installment holds a lot of significance since it stars superstar Surya in the lead. In fact, Rgv has thought of a novel strategy to announce the arrival of Surya in Bollywood. Massive hoardings are coming up at strategic points in Andheri and Juhu with focus on Surya alone. However, it's the caption that catches your attention: 'After Robot The Rajni, it's Surya The Ghajini'. It may be recalled that Surya had enacted the main lead in the Tamil version of Ghajini, which was remade in Hindi with Aamir Khan. In the coming 21 days, the promotions of Rakht Charitra 2 are only going to go bigger and better.

October 28, 2010: None of the four new releases of the week – Rakht Charitra, Jhootha Hi Sahi, Hisss and Dus Tola managed to make any impression whatsoever at the theaters. Of course the merits (or the lack of them) were primarily responsible as well but they come into play when audience watches the film. What can one say when no one even bothers to step into theaters and then spreads word-of-mouth, whether negative or positive. This is what happened in case of the new releases as they went unnoticed.
As for Jhootha Hi Sahi, it was indeed disappointing to see an extremely poor opening with collections in the range of 5 crores over the weekend. If very low footfalls on the first.

Of these, Jhootha Hi Sahi fared better than its peers with net collections of approximately Rs 60 million (Rs 6 crore) in the opening weekend. On its opening Friday, the movie’s net collections stood at a mere Rs 17.50 million (Rs 1.75 crore). On the other hand, Rakht Charitra, which did ...

Ram Gopal Varma, who will surely go down in history as a lateral thinking director, is all gung ho about his recently released Rakht Charitra. But just like all his past films, this one had to come with its share of controversies. The new one being the protests carried out by Telugu Desam Party (Tdp) asking the director to delete certain scenes that project former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao in poor light in his film. After the protestors took to the streets and even stopped screenings in certain theatres, that Varma, agreed to delete the scenes and dialogues that are deemed to be found objectionable. Though Ramu felt that the people staging these protests were ones who hadn't even seen the film, he did say that he himself was a big fan of the former Cm and that if seen in a larger context of the film,...

Vivek's film Rakht Charitra opens tomorrow and from what we here the actor is a bit nervous! Not only was the film shot in two parts, it was also done in three different languages, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu and Vivek delivered his lines with the same powerful intensity in all three versions! Needless to say the actor had to do his homework!

Vivek Oberoi would be a part of the history with him being the first mainstream hero ever to have a two-part release of his film. Rakht Charitra would be arriving in its first part this Friday while the second part would come exactly a month later. However, this is for the Hindi and the Telugu version. When it comes to the Tamil version, which is expected to be spearheaded entirely by Suriya due to his immense popularity down South, Rakht Charitra would release in a single, albeit a longer version. Confirms Ramu, "In the Hindi version, Vivek (Oberoi) features in both the parts of the film though Suriya is only introduced in the first part while he becomes far more prominent in the second version. Hence, it was a given that the Hindi version of the film would release in both the parts. Telugu version too made sense to come...

"If anything so enamoured of hatred can be called a peace offering, then yes I'm releasing Rakht Charitra 2 on the same day (November 19) as Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish," chuckles Ramu. For the first time in his entire career as an outspoken critique of the Bollywood denizens, Ram Gopal Varma (Rgv) has apologized to a fellow-filmmaker for offending him. After posting a nasty comment on a social network on Guzaarish, Ramu realized he had gone too far this time and profusely apologized to Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Slb). Ramu's SMS to Slb reads, "I'm sorry if I offended you. I just have this habit of constantly saying something funny on Twitter about every happening out there. Most of the comments are on me. I make more comments on my own films than anybody else's. I'll take back my remark publicly asap. Sorry again." Slb immediately chose to forgive and forgot and move on.

The little volatile town of Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, home of gangster-turned-politician Paritala Ravi on whose violent life Ram Gopal Varma's Rakht Charitra is based, will resemble a fortress on October 21 when Vivek Oberoi, Ram Gopal Varma and the team of the film descends on the hostile town for the premiere. The indefatigable Ramu calls it his do-or-die premiere. And rightly so since Varma received death threats for attempting to shoot Paritala Ravi's bio-pic in Anantapur. Finally, the film had to be shot elsewhere. But now Varma is not backing out. And his leading man Vivek Oberoi has decided to be equally brave. Says Ramu. "This is my last attempt to make the local population in Anantapur understand that I wasn't out to sensationalize or demonize their local hero. They need to see and judge for themselves." The director has invited prominent members of the local establishment including cops...
