worse than nothing.

I'm a 20 year old youth from Mt Druit, and this film is very very poor. This film is emblematic of everything that is wrong with Australian film. Utterly boring and useless, showcasing peoples chosen representations of themselves and evading any real kind of truth telling, or even mild entertainment. The fact that Saad is marketing this as 'experimental' is a good indicator of his lack of knowledge about documentary and film making in general. The kind of man who has labeled himself as a great filmmaker before he made anything at all, and created a wikipedia page for himself, his face book littered with self quotes such as '"Be Your Own Master And Achieve Great Success" - Saad Adam', this is an exploitative, arrogant, self-promoting individual who's work is dull and amateurish. I'm just really fed up with this kind of behavior surrounding films in Australia. Where directors act mighty, and reviewers perpetuate the lie so that they have something to write about, but if things are dull, or bad, they should be labeled as such, not praised and advertised. Is it really news filmink that a young person has filmed a few things and could possibly get distribution? What sort of sad industry is it when this is getting published? I actually care about film and art, and the shameless self-promotion of nothing special at all, in the form of this film has really upset me as a sign of a society where bullshit is more important than quality. We don't have to put up with it anymore. stay clear.

Not a very good film.

Warning: Spoilers
Every area, even the worst, has a few good seeds that goto work everyday and are just trying to save for something better. Those few are the ones that have been selected to be interviewed for this film. The film does nothing to disprove stereotypes. If anything, it confirms them. Not by what it does show, but by what it chooses NOT to show. Documentaries should be a true representation of their subject matter, and as a resident of Sydney living very nearby to Mount Druitt, I can confirm that this film does not provide that truth. Please avoid this film. It provides no new information. Everybody is aware that bad areas contain some good people.

watched this documentary a few years after its release due to the director stopping sales and distribution of this film. But i was lucky to grab a copy from a old friend who had it. This documentary would have to be a great eye opener because the raw quality of what is recorded without no editing or scripting like most documentary films you see today on TV. My family grew up around mount druitt since the 80s and have seen a massive change in the culture and people. and they have to say that mount druitt is not as bad as its made out to be. I hope to see more of SAAD adams work in the future.

GREAT FILM I GIVE IT A 10/10

The Lives Of Mount Druitt Youth is the debute documentary from Saad Adam, who actually tried to catch a single dream shared by everyone in Mt. Druitt. The objective of Saad Adam's documentary is to identify the reasons behind the current bad reputation of Mt. Druitt youth, and have the same analyzed by the people who grew up and are living in the area.

Saad held interviews amongst a number of people who shared the concern of Mt. Druitt becoming a crime zone in Sydney. They also shared their own viewpoints of how to avoid or keep oneself safe from those crimes, drugs etc. Even people also inferred that Mt. Druitt is still doing great, as their primary place of work, study and business. Nevertheless, it's not the same like before. The interviews featured in the film were all properly setup. People interviewed in the film came up with their natural backdrops. It pulled out the ethnic mingling to portray thoughts from all schools. You also seemingly find them recorded under normal day to day activities contexts.

Authenticity, originality are the clues in this great documentary where you find everyone sharing the same concern and having their own way out of it, interpreted and expressed so vividly. Saad featured the reason and explained what others are thinking about the Mt. Druitt youths becoming so famous for their notorious activities with good hope that its community life can improve to a better state with more economic activities in the area. The message is clear.

Question Mark Films, Saad's own production house, brought the documentary to life. The Lives Of Mount Druitt Youth got a brilliant background score and proper cinematography. The work itself is remarkable and thought inspiring. Bringing the promise to the line Saad's work is destined to get the viewers scratching their heads, wondering how they ever thought so differently. Sydney has got something to watch finally with Saad Adam's The Lives Of Mount Druitt Youth!
