Sex & Nudity

  • Some guys turn on a leaf blower near a group of girls, which lifts one of the girls' dress up and we see her underwear. One of the guys comments "She's wearing black today."
  • A scene with a topless girl, she's seen covering her breasts
  • Steve says that he's having a "face period" when he's bleeding out of his nose.
  • Characters comment on the last time they've had sex, this is brief and doesn't last more than 10 seconds.
  • Steve looks up the meaning of 'telekinesis', and comments on the word 'vibrate'. Very suggestive, but will fly over some younger viewers.

Violence & Gore

  • Andrew and Matt fight each other throughout the city, and they cause some destruction to buildings and streets etc.
  • Andrew is constantly bullied by schoolmates, is constantly abused by his alcoholic father, and is disturbed by his cancerous mother. He is a depressed boy, and many of the violence stated comes from his depression.
  • Andrew is head-locked by a schoolmate, and is punched and slapped repeatedly.
  • Andrew uses his powers to rip apart a spider, and you see the detached limbs and abdomen, as he drops it on the floor. No gore, but some sound effects make it disturbing.
  • A teenage boy is attacked by a man; he uses his power to throw him up against a wall, and then across the room.
  • A teenage boy uses his powers to throw four teens around the street. We then see two of them lying face down with blood blood trails, presumably dead.
  • After being in an explosion, Andrew is seen with bandages all over his body. Over time, some of the bandages come lose and we can see exposed bloody skin for the rest of the movie.
  • A teenage boy is shot by a police officer. Blood is shown dripping from his fingers. He screams out in pain very loudly.
  • Because they are interconnected with telekinesis, Steve, Matt, and Andrew get a massive nosebleed when they 'overexert' themselves.

Profanity

  • 62 uses of s**t, 9 uses of a*s, 5 uses of godd-mn, 5 uses of bi-ch, 1 use of douc*ebag, 1 use of di-k, 1 use of p-ssy, 1 use of pri-k and 1 middle finger gesture.
  • 1 use of "pussy", "dick", and "prick" (as well as the middle finger).
  • Frequent uses of "goddamn", "goddammit", "hell", "asshole", "bitch", "shit" and "bullshit" is used in the film.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A teen boy tells another teen boy to "have a beer" at a party and he replies "I don't drink."
  • One scene is at a party; teenagers can be seen holding and drinking alcohol, but there is no strong use of alcohol there and nobody seems to be overusing it.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Two boys sit on the ledge of a skyscraper and their legs are dangling in the air. One of them walks on the ledge to show off. We see what they see. It can be intense and upsetting to some.
  • Andrew makes a car crash with his telekinesis.
  • Some intense violence/action.
  • Andrew is bullied in one or two scenes.
  • The film can get dark at times.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • Steve and friends joke about how Andrew lost his virginity, but due to him puking on Monica, his crush whom he drank with, it is implied they never had sex, implying he never lost his virginity at all.

Violence & Gore

  • Because of Andrew's annoyance for Wayne, one bully, he uses his powers to rip three teeth from his mouth. Blood spurts from Wayne's mouth as he slumps over, and everyone watches in horror. You can see the teeth move across the screen. He later gives an anatomical analysis on the teeth he pulled. This scene is very dark and disturbing.
  • Andrew uses his powers to derail a car off the street and into a ravine while Matt is driving. Steve eventually rescues the man, who is bleeding from his mouth and from a cut in his head, and an officer is onto the scene. We hear that he is put in the hospital because of his injuries, but is not heard from after.
  • Steve is struck by lightning, and is killed instantly due to Andrew losing control of his powers.
  • Near the end, many police officers and SWAT soldiers are thrown around as Andrew and Matt fight using their powers. Matt eventually is outnumbered by Andrew, and Andrew eventually harms the officers and SWAT soldiers. After being threatened by Matt three times, Andrew is impaled with a spear from a statue telepathically by Matt, instantly killing him. It is unclear what happens after Matt flies away at the end of the movie

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Andrew's father, Richard, is an alcoholic. While he isn't shown drinking from the bottle on screen, you can see lots of beer bottles in his hand or on the furniture near him. He constantly beats up Andrew for his own reasons. Eventually, Andrew gets back at him
  • After Monica and Andrew drink, they try to have sex, but Andrew vomits on her, embarrassing himself. (See Sex & Nudity for more information)

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The main character Andrew slowly descends into madness and revenge due to his abusive father and people bullying him at school. This causes him to abuse his telekinetic powers in a destructive and violent manner and go on rampage.
  • The main character, Andrew, has an abusive father and an increasingly sick mother, which is quite sad and could be distressing for some viewers. His father abuses him onscreen at some points, which could be intense to some.
  • The ending is a bit depressing for some viewers.
