- Staying behind in Bardon Pass, Arthur prepares traps for the rest of Harwel's men, picking them off one-by-one in the middle of the night as they're tricked into invading the fortification and surround Arthur, taking his sword. Harwel returns and is presented Arthur's sword, which he orders sent off to Morgan as proof of his accomplishment. Harwel soon finds, though, that Arthur is alive and has taken out his top men, and elects to wait until daylight when his reinforcements come. Arthur tortures one of them, who confesses that Morgan has plotted against him.
Arriving in Camelot, Morgan arrives with Queen Igraine and Merlin in chains, and explains to Arthur's guards that they ransacked her castle and have plotted to unseat her. Informed that Arthur and most of his forces are off to defend Bardon Pass, Morgan generously offers her guards to help shore up Camelot's protection, while at the same time using her guards to spy on Arthur's men. One of Arthur's men confronts Morgan and informs her that there are rumors that Arthur and Guinevere have run off together. Morgan defends her brother's honor, stating that he would never let a woman distract her, and then tells her servants to find Guinevere, knowing that she is not in the castle. Now locked up in the stockades, Merlin tells Igraine that they must have faith that Arthur will return. Morgan, inside Arthur's throne room, is presented with Arthur's sword. Morgan feels confident that she has now won.
Back at Bardon Pass the next morning, Arthur watches Harwel's forces assemble and prepare for attack. Arthur flees to the rear of the fortification to put distance between him and Harwel's men as they search for him. Arthur then hides in a series of places using elaborate set-ups and disguises to again start picking off his attackers. They corner Arthur near a wall when Leontes arrives, and together they fend off an assault, but are quickly backed against the wall, again facing numerous forces. Just as they prepare to attack, the rest of Arthur's men arrive and begin slaughtering Harwel's men from the rear, advancing into the fortification. After a hard battle and mounting losses, the remainder of Harwel's forces flee in panic. Harwel remains hidden behind, and attempts to assassinate. Leontes sees the attack and sacrifices his body and takes an arrow for Arthur, as Gawain attacks and kills Harwel. As Leontes lays dying, he asks Arthur to promise him a warrior's funeral. Arthur apologizes for everything, and Leontes asks in a whisper for Arthur to treasure Guinevere. Leontes dies in Arthur's arms, and is taken back to Guinevere, who morns his loss.
Later that morning in Camelot, Merlin is brought into the main chamber as Morgan arrives, dragging Arthur's sword behind her, and announces the death of Arthur. Asked who will take Arthur's crown, Morgan says that she cannot make that decision. Sybyl, the nun, tells Morgan that it should be her, to fulfill her father's duties and her obligation to the people. The people cheer on as Morgan feigns sadness as she accepts their call to become their queen. Morgan comes to Igraine in her bed chamber, where Igraine asks why she took Igraine's image. Morgan explains that she was favored by her father until he took Igraine as her wife, and sent her away. Morgan then stabs Igraine after confessing that she wished a slow death for her. Bleeding in Morgan's arms, Igraine stated that it was Uther's wish to kill Morgan, but that Igraine took pity on her and had her sent away to France to protect her. Reeling in shock and denial, Morgan runs as Igraine declares that she will never become queen.
Later in the day, Morgan prepares to be crowned as Igraine slowly and painfully crawls on her belly to seek help. Sybil administers an oath to Morgan before anointing her "First Queen of the Britons". Suddenly, Arthur and his men arrive in the room, Arthur presenting a slow, mocking clap. Morgan, astonished, runs up to hug her brother, but he whispers in her ear that she knows of her plot. Arthur admonishes the people for abandoning him after one rumor of his death. Arthur admits that he has made mistakes, but he lives for the hope of the people, while Morgan instills fear.
Arthur's men then drag in the man who confessed to Arthur, and admits to everybody that Morgan ordered him and others to attack Arthur. Morgan denies the accusation and says the man is only trying to save her life. Sybil then steps forward and confesses that it was her who plotted against Arthur, and that Morgan knew nothing. Morgan again proclaims her loyalty to Arthur, who reminds her that the punishment for treason in the kingdom is death, and tells Morgan that she has blood on her hands.
Merlin, now freed, searches the castle for Igraine and finds her dying in a hallway. Merlin attempts to cast a spell to save her life, which draws from his own life force. Igraine stops him and begs him instead to let her die so that Merlin can stay behind to protect Arthur. Merlin cries as Queen Igraine passes away in his arms. Later in the evening, Merlin is preparing Igraine's body. Arthur arrives, and Merlin apologizes to him. Arthur proclaims that none of this was his fault. Arthur kneels beside Igraine and grieves her loss, swearing to live up to her hopes.
Outside in a forest clearing, Sybil prepares for her execution as Gawain tells her to kneel. Sybil cries as she confesses that she had hoped Morgan would come to save her. As she looks up one last time, she sees not Morgan but Merlin standing on a hilltop, who states, "There is no God" as Gawain beheads the nun into an open grave. Later in the day, Arthur confronts Morgan and tells her that she knows Morgan killed his mother, and that although Sybil confessed to his assassination, she had no motive. Arthur banishes Morgan, and strips her of her lands, titles and the Pendragon name. As Arthur leaves, Morgan screams that he will not take her birthright from her. Later, Leontes' body is laid on a funeral pyre, and is set on fire as Arthur, Guinevere and his men observe. Guinevere grieves that she never got to say goodbye, and Arthur comforts her by telling her that he died thinking of only her. Back inside Camelot, Arthur's men are assembling pieces of wood as the king returns. Taking a place at what will eventually become the Round Table, they dedicate a seat in memory of Leontes, and vow that it will never be filled. Towards the end of the day, Merlin approaches Arthur and states that he is leaving, he cannot carry on any further. Arthur asks him if he will return, Merlin shakes his head and tells Arthur that he will be great.
Morgan wanders into the forest clearing, falls onto the grave of Sybil, and begs her forgiveness, asking what she must do. The winds stir up, and Morgan hears Sybil's voice, which says, "To become queen, you must give birth to a king." In the evening, Guinevere knocks on Arthur's bedchamber, stating that even though it is wrong, she cannot bear to be alone, and asks for him to comfort her. Arthur tells Guinevere of Leontes' dying words to treasure her, and Guinevere offers herself to him. The two then strip their clothes off and begin to passionately make love. Later in the night, Guinevere wakes up with a nose bleed, and rushes from the chamber to get a wash cloth. As she comes back, she transforms into the body of Morgan, who smiles as she walks away, having again disguised herself in order to sleep with the king.
