Hugh Dillon: Constable Ed Lane

Quotes

  • Sgt. Gregory Parker : [Over headset]  Okay team, we're getting conflicting stories from all the witnesses. But none of them mention overlapping gunfire, so shots all came from one location.

Ed Lane : One gun, lone shooter, fits the spree profile. We got a description?

Sgt. Gregory Parker : Nah, no one really got a good look.

Ed Lane : Any of the witnesses have guesses about who they pissed off?

Mike Scarlatti : Brenton Inc. is a multi-national conglomerate, people love to hate multi-national conglomerates.

  • Ed Lane : Spike, we got eyes yet?

Mike Scarlatti : [Looking at computer screen in truck]  Sort of, the motion detectors are working, but not all the CCTV cameras are operational.

Ed Lane : So some of the cameras have blind spots?

Mike Scarlatti : Yep, like the room you're in now.

Ed Lane : [Looks up at camera]  It's been shot at.

Mike Scarlatti : Well that would do it.

  • Ed Lane : Boss she set a fire.

Kevin 'Wordy' Wordsworth : We must be closing in.

Mike Scarlatti : [From truck]  Guys there's gonna be an automatic lock down.

Ed Lane : Wordy go, go, go.

[Unable to get to door before it locks]

Ed Lane : Damn it! Wordy get the fire, Spike override this lock down now, she's buying time!

Mike Scarlatti : I'm trying but they just renovated the museum.

    Ed Lane : I don't care!

Mike Scarlatti : No you do, the security system upgraded...

Ed Lane : [Banging on the door]  Spike do it now!

Mike Scarlatti : [Frustrated]  I haven't dealt with the 2700 before!

Jill Hastings : [Flash to present inside briefing room]  At which point, your team leader responded with some colorful language.

Mike Scarlatti : Ed says what he thinks.

Jill Hastings : Profanity is an expression of loss of control. Not very reassuring for a team leader.

Mike Scarlatti : Well he didn't lose control.

Jill Hastings : He didn't make it harder for you to think clearly under pressure?

Mike Scarlatti : No, he didn't.

    Jill Hastings : You sure?

    [Spike nods]

Jill Hastings : Active shooter, direct to threat imperative, and you cost your team valuable seconds trying to open a door.

Mike Scarlatti : That wasn't 'cause of Ed that was because I didn't know this particular system.

Jill Hastings : Doesn't your team count on you to be familiar with all the advances in security technology?

Mike Scarlatti : I am, I stay on top of every release, but the 2700...

Jill Hastings : The Bereeve don't want to hear about the 2700. They want to know whether charges of criminal negligence should be brought against the leaders of your team for the deaths that occurred after your arrival.

Mike Scarlatti : When I was unable to override the security system and unlock the door, Ed took care of it.

Jill Hastings : When you failed?

Mike Scarlatti : When I failed, Ed succeeded. The team succeeded. We all have our roles, our strengths, and our weaknesses. We work together, we're not a bunch of guys, we're a unit.

  • Ed Lane : Boss, I need Spike out of the truck and in the building.

Sgt. Gregory Parker : No, he's serving a purpose in the truck, Ed.

Ed Lane : Boss, I need the hands here.

Sgt. Gregory Parker : We could use the intel more.

Ed Lane : More than quicker containment?

Sgt. Gregory Parker : Eddie, a building like this, without intel, we're blind. We're running around in circles.

Ed Lane : Not a fan of circles.

  • Jill Hastings : You went in hunting a male disgruntled employee randomly shooting people when you should have been looking for a woman on a mission.

Ed Lane : Statistics and experience suggest a male shooter. Now, the profile evolved. We changed our thinking... and we found her.

Jill Hastings : After 37 minutes.

Ed Lane : After 37 minutes.

Jill Hastings : And this evolving profile - did it add pressure to the situation? Time was against you. Were you feeling stressed or...?

Ed Lane : [interrupting]  Or annoyed?

Jill Hastings : Yes. Were you feeling annoyed? Off your game?

Ed Lane : No. I was doing my job. We all were.

Jill Hastings : It's natural to feel frustrated.

Ed Lane : We had new information - from our search, from the sister, from what Spike found. Now, adjusting profiles as we go is part of the job, just like reading transcripts is part of yours. Let me ask you this. Do typos annoy you? Do they frustrate you? Do they compromise your, uh, your game?

Jill Hastings : So, if your analogy fits, you were annoyed.

Ed Lane : I am now. You got an actual question?
