I have Definitely seen worse, no doubt about it.
BustedBlock28 April 2020
This is one of those cartoons that as a kid I really hated, but I rewatched it not long ago and it's definitely not as bad as I remembered. I still don't like it though, as some of the characters can get pretty annoying most of the time, and I personally find the way the fish are animated to be pretty weird looking. That is just my dumb opinion though😁

Started extremely weak but developed into a mediocre cartoon.
Shopaholic3519 April 2014
I get it, this is certainly nothing visionary but it's not that bad. I too thought it was one of the worst things created when it first aired but it has grown on me. The creators have developed the concept and the characters over time. It has become a perfectly watchable cartoon that has been put to rest before it got dragged out too long.

I agree that the characters are extremely vapid but they all have their own appeal. It's dorky, dumb and poorly executed but it makes me chuckle. It certainly could be worse. This isn't a show for the average person and I won't recommend it but if you keep your expectations low, (give the first season a miss), it might entertain you.

Why all the hate?
This show is funny, talented, and somewhat stupid in an entertaining way. It's like Disney's version of SpongeBob Squarepants, a cartoon that everybody, well ALMOST everybody likes (They started hating SpongeBob around 2007 - 2010). It's also somewhat similar to The Mr. Men Show, the most awesome show in the entire planet, you know, how they get into wacky situations and do things that me people laugh. So with 2 shows you like combined into 1 show, there's no need for all the hate. If you're going to hate on something, then hate on the overrated shows worse than this like Regular Show, South Park, and Teen Titans Go! (I know it's not overrated here, but fans on YouTube don't stop talking about this show).

They phoned this one in
rscampb19 July 2012
I am totally disappointed by this show. The animation is bad and the scripts are not even that good.

Disney has a long history of humanizing animals and inanimate objects with amazing, and sometimes ground breaking results (think The Little mermaid, Aristocats, The Rescuers, etc.) and this is the best they can come up with for their flagship channel? Disney established itself as the place to go for quality animation. When the show was bad the art work was always great. Then came Fish Hooks. It looks like it was drawn by a grade school art class. It looks similar to an old cartoon I found on the internet called "Clutch Cargo." This deficit could be overlooked if the script was at least a little better. But there seems to be little hope for that in the near future.

Not insanely bad

Warning: Spoilers
I saw the commercials and thought this would be a normal Disney show: stupid and pointless. Granted, it can be those at times, but it has some underlying themes that are surprisingly mature.

**SLIGHT SPOILERS BELOW**

The show starts off innocent and unassuming. Three fish taking on the world in high school. I know it sounds strange, and it really is. But it's a little out there.

On the graduation episode, the affection you see between Bea and Oscar is very realistic. It's a little dumbed down for the kids, but it's still very believable and cute. The way the characters interact has always been very human and adorable.

The way everything comes together in the show can be sloppy, but that's how life is, right?

Disney's worst TV cartoon yet.
TheCartoonfaxuator17 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I just want to mention that this show ranks above Jonas and Wizards of waverly place in Disney's top 5 worst shows made.

Fish Hooks ranks as Disney Channel's worst cartoon yet. First off, a cartoon about tween fishes sounds like an idea pitched by an immature 12 year old.Disney hit rock bottom so hard, it's as if they hit a diamond this time. The three main characters of the show Bea, Milo, Oscar suck. I Assure you they really do suck. What makes them suck is that they make fun of people in the real world. Bea makes fun of all girly girls with her obnoxious heys, and her never ending crave of wanting to be the prettiest fish. Milo makes fun of all extreme sports people, fans, and daredevils. His on going obsession of wanting to do extreme and dangerous things that some times could be considered a sport going way too far, is beyond stupidity, and insulting. Speaking about stupidity, it is mind boggling to know how dumb he can get on the show. It's as if he's related to Patrick Star from Sponge Bob Square pants. And lastly, Oscar. He makes fun of all types of nerds. School nerds, Math nerds, you name it. His love of video games, and how he act around girls is down right creepy, and strange. Other than Bea, Milo, and Oscar. There are other characters who are annoying, and insulting. There is an octopus named Joctopus that makes all jocks look like empty headed bullies. Enough talking about the characters. Now it's time to talk about the Bull$h!+ artwork. This show literally looks like it was drawn by a dozen 5 year old kids with crayons. I wouldn't even consider fish hooks a cartoon. Since only the character look like toons, and everything else literally looks like scrape paper. And I mean everything. the backgrounds, and other animals that aren't fish and don't got to school. Fish Hooks is a beyond terrible show, that will rot a little kid's mind. It's bad enough that tween garbage has taken over TV, but this show just further increases it. I Give it a 1/10. Disney you disappoint me once again.

I loved it.
daniburns3 January 2017
Don't think of it as a show to entertain parents. It's not. But a couple of years ago during summer, I would stay awake all night and watch TV, and I would drop everything to watch Fish Hooks. I loved the ending with the mouse and the snake, and I loved Milo's annoying personality, and how adorable Oscar was. I don't even remember the orange lady's name, but Oscar and Milo are two characters that have a small place in my heart. Compared to characters from Gravity Falls, it's nothing, but I still hate seeing anybody insult what used to be my favorite! My favorite episode was the one with the seahorse teacher guy trying to ask his love interest out. I hardly remember anything because when you're a kid, two years is equivalent to five for some older person, but I do remember how happy Fish Hooks made me. Even if it has poor quality and it's not for adults, it was a kids show and it served its purpose - At least for me.

A lot better than I thought
kikimominakasaki25 October 2010
When I first saw the commercials for this I thought "Oh lord, they are going to follow up Phineas and Ferb with this?" My reaction changed a bit when I actually saw a few episodes, since they were actually funny. There are a lot of "huh?" moments but overall it's a step up from a lot of the junk Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network are putting out there nowadays. My only vice with this show is the animation style, it looks cheaply done (the parts with the pet shop etc...) With time, I see this show growing on the people that initially hated it. It won't be as big a hit as Phineas and Ferb, but I see Fish Hooks being around for a while, especially with Hannah Montana (hopefully) ending soon.

Basically your standard show about Anthropromorphic animals who act like teens.
MegaCynic26 September 2010
This show is like the standard type sitcom about as trio of animals (in this case, fish) who live like teens and deal with your typical teenage issues like crushes,dances,break-ups,tests,zits,your usually generic teenage show fare. This show is extremely similar to another Disney Show "The Buzz On Maggie" which was canceled after one season I believe. This show is not interesting and extremely generic. I actually think "generic" is the best word to describe this show. It's exactly like every other teenage show I've seen before. Nothiing stands out in the slightest. Kyle Massey is a decent voice actor but every time I hear the characters voice (Milo) I think "Kyle Massey". he didn't exactly characterize it or anything. It's exactly his voice. Overall this show is very poor, but it's not terrible. Be prepared to (not) see this show be put onto a 4:30 AM slot very soon.

Very nice show, story, characters and animation
cute_brielle13 January 2014
I love how simple and lighthearted but fun this show is, and I love how the jokes are actually funny and it isn't annoying unlike the other cartoons on Disney (where people just talk in high pitched voices and yelling all the time(boring)). Plus, at the end of the show you actually learn/re-learn something :P It's one of those shows that kids would like to watch and young-adults/adults would enjoy as well. The jokes are smart enough to even make 18-30 year-olds laugh.

Also, very nice animation! the way the characters move and the camera angles and techniques are nice. I like the texturing too, the mix of flat and lifelike/realistic. I honestly honestly like this show a lot, it's refreshing yet brings me back to the type of shows I liked as a kid - only better. :)

Disney has failed.Hard!
coolandawesome9914 August 2012
In early 2010 i was waiting at my television waiting for this show to come on and then disappointment has struck me , the animation is crap the lines where annoying and then i realized......no funny jokes(I say in a angry tone). This show looked funny on the commercials with characters that looked cool but here i am watching one of the worst shows ever created everyone who watched this show was thinking "Why am I killing my brain cells with this trash filled craptastic show?"And then everyone holding a remote changes it and puts on shows worth watching such as adventure time(greatest show ever created)or icarly because who knew Disney would sink this low by creating trash on our TV and the worst part is the show is still on air.

Wasted talent in animation
DannyD199722 May 2019
At least Phineas and Ferb was good when it first premiered, looking back in that show now. Fish Hooks? No! Fish Hooks is TERRIBLE!!! It's the same school show we've seen since Doug!! This show wasted such crew talents as Lynne Naylor (creator of the Modifyers), C. H. Greenblatt (creator of Chowder), Alex Hirsch (creator of Gravity Falls), Maxwell Atoms (creator of the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy), Justin Roiland (creator of Rick and Morty), AND Tom Warburton (creator of Codename: Kids Next Door)!!! Those people were better off working on Phineas and Ferb than this atrocity.

Even the voice acting is lousy!! WHY ARE CARLOS ALAZRAQUI, JOHN DIMAGGIO, JEFF BENNETT, JASON ALEXANDER, GREY GRIFFIN, RICHARD HORVITZ, etc. VOICING CHARACTERS IN THIS SHOW??!! Oscar, Albert, and Mr. Baldwin are honestly the best characters, yet the rest are just unlikable!! Bea is a selfish teenager, Milo is obnoxious, and everyone else is annoying!! Do I recommend this show?? NO!!! This show sucks.

Brainless Bottom Feeders -.-
a34trgv13 February 2024
In another attempt to find a hidden gem in Disney Television Animation's filmography, I decided to give Fish Hooks a watch on Disney+. 10 episodes later, and I'm left with less braincells than I had before watching it. From the awful writing to the stupid characters, this show makes one long for the hijinks of SpongeBob and Patrick.

Created by Noah Z. Jones, Fish Hooks follows the escapades of 3 fish in high school set in a pet shop where the tanks are linked together and have their own settings. Does that sound jumbled together? That's because IT IS! The first problem with the show is it doesn't do a good job at world building. There's no organic connectivity and it feels like they different settings were chosen at random depending on the episode. One episode takes place in a Hollywood-esque setting but full of hamsters. Another has the characters going through a high tech security system to get tobthe year book club at school. There's no rhyme or reason for these settings and it's just random for the sake of comedy. Which wouldn't be so bad, if the humor wasn't obvious subversions, weak slapstick, and lousy puns. You know what's worse, though? The writing of these episodes is abysmal! This show has abhorrent pacing with characters mostly standing around talking about nothing that matters, obvious uses of tired tropes and some cringy musical numbers. This really shows just what happens when you just throw random settings into the script for the sake of unfunny comedy and unengaging stories.

The characters are so stupid, they make Patrick Star look like Albert Einstein! They've never heard of common sense, they never even bother thinking before they act, and they never learn anything of value. I'm actually convinced that these characters don't have brains, or if they do, they're doing a great job NOT using them! Starting with the main trio, Milo, Bea, and Oscar are each one third of a whole idiot! Milo is the loudest, most obnoxious and stupidest of the 3, Bea is an annoying aspiring actress, and Oscar is the anxious dweeb who has a crush on Bea but the writers forbid him from exiting the friendzone because Heaven forbid he acts like a normal person (albeit fish person) and accept that they're better off as friends. Don't expect anyone else to leave a lasting impression as they're all one dimensional archetypes of tired tropes. Shellsea is the text book definitely of a Valley Girl, voice and all. Clamantha is the ugly girl who has a crush on Oscar (much to his disgust), Jocktopus is a bully, Mr. Baldwin is a teacher who hates his job (and is a pregnant seahorse, but this show isn't smart enough to do anything other than make a lame joke about it), and Coach Salmons is just Richard Simmons as a fish and the show just beats this lame joke into the ground over and over again.

I was pleasantly surprised that the voice acting was pretty good (for the most part). That's So Raven star, Kyle Massey, sounded like he was having a blast voicing Milo, making him sound very boisterous and lively. Chelsea Kane did a really good job making Bea sound energetic and lively. Dana Snyder nails the curmudgeon attitude of Mr. Baldwin. Gravity Falls creator, Alex Hirsh, did a solid job making Clamantha sound cheerful and perky even with her ugly appearance. Kari Walhgren did the best she could making Shellsea sound exactly like they typically Valley Girl, though she does better voice work as Sanke during the credits. John DiMaggio was a real treat hearing him ham it up as Jocktopus. Richard Simmons did a decent job voicing himself as a fish. The only truly bad performance in the show is Justin Roiland as Oscar. As controversial as this take may sound, I never once thought Justin Roiland was a good voice actor as he lacks the range, authenticity and charisma to make his roles stand out from one another. Oscar sounds exactly like Morty from Rick and Morty, who intern sounds exactly like Lemongrab from Adventure Time; all of which are just Roiland putting on a whiney, dweebish version of his normal voice. Despite how stupid these characters are, at least the actors are doing decent work on them; except Justin Roiland, of course.

Visually, this is a very unique and lively cartoon from the Mouse House's television division. The characters have very distinct and appealing designs with round heads, wide mouths and a vibrant color palette. The animation also utilizes great squash and stretched to make the characters feel more alive. I also like how the show mixs 2D with photo collages, giving the pet shop and characters like Clamantha a very distinct but pleasing look. The backgrounds are also verg well detailed with the pet shop looking very expansive and the schools looking like a real high school. Out of all of Disney's TV shows, this one stands out among the rest in the visual department.

These are some stupid and annoying fish; you sure this pet shop isn't actually a toxic waste dump? Fish Hooks is among Disney's stupidest cartoons with terrible writing, unfunny humor, stupid characters, and an very terrible performance by Justin Roiland. Sure the animation and the rest of the actors are pretty good, but they're talents feel wasted on such a badly made show. If you're looking for nautical nonsense that's actually funny and had smart characters, just watch SpongeBob. You'll actually have a much better time watching that than this stupid show -.-

Mix between Spongebob/Chowder, I laughed pretty hard
Danasaur242 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this show a lot. I've been seeing a lot of hate, but I think that there's a good majority of people that will find it funny. The first preview of it wasn't that great, but the newest episode with the all girl sleepover was hilarious. Milo's over excitedness makes you perk up as well, and Bea is just like any other teenage girl, but a fish! Oscar is a little awkward but definitely adds to the show. Shellsea, Bea's friend, is my favorite character. I love the way she talks. There's random moments of not cartoon objects being thrown into the show too, which is random and makes you go "did that really just happen?" but in a good, funny way. It's not for everyone, but the out of nowhere randomosity (I may have made that word up) was enough to get me hooked. No pun intended. (Ok, maybe I intended that pun :P)

It's Pretty Good
blytheandferb18 September 2015
Fish Hooks isn't a perfect show, but I like watching it. I don't mind the school related Plots since lots of TV shows have them. I think Milo, Oscar, and Bea are pretty well rounded characters bouncing off the world and people around them. The writing can get a bit stupid and the show didn't start super strong, but the show managed to be well written and entertaining all throughout. The show was originally focused more on comedy, but it became more character and story driven in later episodes, creating memorable episodes like "We've Got Fish Spirit", "Fish Prom", and "The Big Woo". The show isn't perfect, but I do like to watch it. I recommend watching this show with an open mind Abdul look more on the morality side of the show.

My Grade 9/10 (A-)

What's with the hate?
dementedcartoonz25 November 2010
I saw the commercials for fish hooks and thought 'wow, it's just going to be another retarded show on Disney channel' I mean, with all of the ridiculous shows on there now, I wasn't surprised that they wouldn't put another bad one on. I hardly watch Disney channel in the first place so I didn't really mind. Then i was admitted into the hospital and one of the very few channels they have is the Disney channel, I watched the episode "Doris Florez Gorgeous" of fish hooks and it instantly became one of my favorite shows. I don't get what's with all the hate, it's not bad, give it a chance maybe? I think that a lot of the people who "hate" it, haven't really even given it much of it chance.

I loved this show
shytigner26 July 2017
Why are adults reviewing for a kids show? I loved watching this show with my younger sister it was so nice to see her smiling and laughing. I know there are some stupid jokes but kids love stupid jokes. The show has cute characters and has fun for kids. They always had my sister and her friends waiting for the next episode they all loved it! So please stop the hate on this amazing show. I wish they would bring it back for the new generation.

Walt Disney would be Proud.
mstkfanfolife14 February 2011
Wow after 4 or 5 years of Disney's instant failure because of Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place and all these mainstream shows and even musical artists turned into shows everyone thought Disney was dead... not anymore. I seriously thought Disney in general was dead until that ONE day when my LapTop had died and i went on the TV Guide bored as heck and saw what was on Disney Channel just for the laughs to see what failure they were airing that night. I saw a show called "Fish Hooks" i was wondering what the heck was it and that the title of the show sounded out of the ordinary for new age Disney. So i started watching it. It was an episode called "Bea Stays in the Picture" during me watching this i was doing something i hadn't done at Disney Channel in years... i was actually laughing i was seriously laughing at this show they were showing. I knew something wasn't right here. In 2006 Hannah Montana was on and killed Disney now apparently this new generation (2010-2011) is killing all those pathetic unoriginal and not humorous failures and bringing us the good stuff Disney used to be made of. This show actually has good plots that don't repeat themselves every episode and aren't cliché the humor is really great (Thank God Disney was smart enough to get Cartoon Network legends C.H. Greenblatt and Maxwell Atoms to write the show) The characters are very lovable and funny (Especially Oscar and Bea) and for a show about High School Drama it doesn't really act like High School Drama it acts like a good cartoon in the 90's. The animation and humor reminded me of the Old 1999-2003 SpongeBob Squarepants And the plot lines remind me of something that's not main stream and absolutely freaking stupid (hence: Hannah Montana). There has been many hate for this show and can't tell you why maybe their Phineas and Ferb fans but this is the BEST thing Disney has ever put out since the last show on Disney that was good from the 90's. And yes im a 19 year old person looking for cartoons that are 90's cartoon reminding. This is one of the best ones i have seen so far. It reminds me of the great shows i grew up with in the 90's. The last thing im going to say is this show is wonderful and definitely recommend it to anyone who loves cartoons, good humor, amazing writing and shows that remind someone of something in the 90's. 10/10 Welcome back Disney!

Funny and awesome show
Amen-62-70377324 July 2014
Every time I hear the theme song, I sing along with it because it's you know, very catchy, so catchy it gets stuck in your head. It's a billion times funnier than Cartoon Network's worst shows ever which are Teen Titans Go!, Regular Show, and Clarence (I can't believe it has a rating lower than those retarded shows). I think I know why it raised from a 4.2/10 to a 4.4/10 (I hope it can raise higher than a 6/10). Plus, like SoWakeMeUpWhenItsAllOver said, it's all your favorite cartoons combined. I think hating Fish Hooks is kind of like hating Johnny Test and SpongeBob (Hating SpongeBob is like how I hated Regular Show, it was good until the end of a certain season, where everything got stupid).

Great show really fun.
slice2001 January 2011
I didn't really watch cartoons anymore ever since nickelodeon started to suck and all my favorites got cancelled I started to watch old cartoons on DVD and never thought that networks would get it right again than one day when channeling on Disney I saw this show I started to watch it and at first I was like what the heck ? But after a episode or two I saw that this was a really fun show. It has humor that you would not expect to be on Disney and would seem more in place on nickelodeon. Plus it has a unique animation style that puts it ahead of the rest and characters that you can actually care about and think are funny. The show is new and doesn't have many episodes but the ones i did see were really funny and unique and I hope this show stays on for a long while and doesn't get canned like other good shows before it. Since I believe its Disney's last hope if you guys can this one I most likely won't watch you anymore I mean its not like you have a much of other good shows so keep this one and you'll be alright. Finally I would like to say this is coming from a 16 year old who loves cartoons so if you haven't seen it yet go find it on the internet or look for it next time your on TV hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as I did !!!!

What brought me back to Disney.
Restharrow30 May 2012
It has everything that makes people love Spongebob Squarepants from Nickelodeon and Chowder from Cartoon Network. It has kid's favorite element of completely randomness, and for the elder teens, it has subtle ever-present humor. The characters are all unique to themselves and to the show.

The first time I heard of it I was like 'What? It must suck.' Man, I was wrong. The first episode I watched got me 'Fish Hook- ed'. Surprisingly good! I understand why some people don't get the humor though.

It's an acquired humor.

Warning: Spoilers
So, apparently. The humor is kind of mixed with Teen Titans Go!, Phineas and Ferb, Regular Show, and Chowder. The nostalgia, humor, plot, and creativity was excellent. I wish this aired for more seasons and episodes.
