Happy Birthday, Robert Van Winkle! Vanilla Ice is celebrating his 46th birthday today. During his rise to fame in the early 1990s, Ice became the first white rapper to top the pop singles chart with his huge hit, "Ice Ice Baby." After his musical fame began to fade, he switched gears and began appearing in reality TV shows. "The Vanilla Ice Project" premiered on Diy Network back in 2009. The series followed the Miami-born emcee and his crew of contractors as they renovated a house in Palm Beach, Florida. In his latest Diy Network adventure, the rapper-turned-home renovator swaps his celebrity for total simplicity in “Vanilla Ice Goes Amish,” where he tries to survive without mirrors, zippers or electricity in the ultra-religious Ohio countryside. Don't worry, Ice didn't leave his musical roots behind. The best part is clearly the theme song, an Amish rendition of "Ice, Ice Baby." We can't wait...

"Vanilla Ice Goes Amish" is a new TV show on the Diy Network where the rapper continues his quest to rule the world of home renovations.
The Do-It-Yourself Network announced that the series will center around Rob Van Winkle (aka Vanilla Ice), living with an Amish family in Ohio to learn the art of construction. Yes, you read that sentence correctly.
We're not surprised. The '90s star already has a documentary series on the network called "The Vanilla Ice Project," where he and his crew flip houses. And lest we forget, he also dabbles in interior design with his own chandelier line with Capital Lighting.
We don't know about you, but we'll definitely be tuning in for the premiere this fall. What's next? Painting with Tina Turner? You never know.
And check out DIYs that are better handled by a professional in our slideshow below.

Oh, Vanilla Ice. We probably best remember the guy, whose real name is Rob Van Winkle, as the fresh young face behind the Billboard hit "Ice Ice Baby" that topped the charts in the early 90s. Since then, there hasn't been much buzz around the hip-hop golden boy. That is, until he got into... design?
The rapper's been showing off his new-found interest in real estate on "The Vanilla Ice Project," a reality show on the Do-It-Yourself Network since 2010. But according to Deezen, Ice recently decided to expand his reach in the interior design world further and teamed up with Capitol Lighting to design his own lighting line.
If his segue into the world of Diy and design wasn't shocking enough, we're definitely at a loss for words with his decision to launch into home accessories. But if we learned anything about Vanilla Ice, it's that his moves are almost always unpredictable.

The home improvement program sees the rapper, born Robert Van Winkle, renovate one room of a foreclosed home in each episode and shows viewers how to work towards building their "dream" houses. Vanilla Ice told The Huffington Post: "This is real. This is no reality show. This is real, it's got content. It's not just some celebrities acting like jackasses in a house - it's real, it's informative. It's entertaining and it's a good family, mainstream thing that also shows people that, you know what, there is hope out there. "Look at this, it's not all bad news. You change the channel, it's all the housing market's (more)...

Perhaps even more than they embrace celebrities and idols, Americans triumphantly celebrate the downfall of their heroes. Whether rejoicing in lurid details of sex scandals and drug addictions, or mocking the inability to adjust to rapidly changing times, there is great self righteous glee that props up the Surreal Lives and the Dr. Drews of the world. But while Americans snicker at fallen icons, every once in a while, the punchline is behind the curtain laughing right alongside the audience.
Enter Vanilla Ice, the early 90's symbol of hip hop's mainstream acceptance, with his Billboard-topping single and worldwide fame confirming to tentative white people that yes, it's okay to like rap music. But with his fall from grace seeming to start as suddenly as his meteoric rise, the words "Ice Ice Baby" soon became something of a punchline for talking head pop culture shows and kids who were in diapers...

Human beings love a good comeback story. Tales of redemption help fuel sports fandom, fill cineplexes with countless films and inspire thousands of pop songs. The bigger the underdog, the better the story, which is why Vanilla Ice might be the best comeback story of all time. It cannot be understated how incredibly gigantic the guy was at his peak and how unbelievably far he fell when he hit bottom. Now that he is back making music and making money in real estate (as told on his TV show "The Vanilla Ice Project"), we can look back and recognize the highs and lows of his career. Those highs were extremely high, and he hit one of those peaks on this day in 1990, when his debut album To The Extreme hit the top spot on the Billboard albums chart, a place he would stay for an astounding 16 weeks.

You may or may not know this yet, but Vanilla Ice has his own new TV show. No, it's not an Osbournes-style series revealing his home life. And it's not a dating show like Brett Michaels' Rock of Love or even a music industry game show to find a new hip hop artist. Vanilla Ice has a home renovation show on Diy Network. Yup. Who would have thought, huh?
The "Ice, Ice, Baby" singer, the first hip hop artist to top the Billboard charts, is flipping houses as a hobby, and he's sharing it with all of us.
The Vanilla Ice Project debuts tonight at 9:00 Pm with two back-to-back episodes. And the most surprising part? Ice (or Robert Van Winkle as he's known when not on stage) actually knows what he's doing.
In the first episode he explains that he has lived in Palm Beach,...

It has been 20 years since Vanilla Ice first broke onto the music scene with the tidal wave of a single that was "Ice Ice Baby." In the two decades in between, the man born Rob Van Winkle has seen enough highs and lows to fill a half-dozen "Behind the Music" specials.
But he's on a bit of a winning streak recently, and a lot of it has to do with real estate. Van Winkle has been flipping houses for close to 15 years, and his quest to fix up and turn a profit on a 7,000-square-foot mansion will be captured in his new show, "The Vanilla Ice Project,...
