Helen Torco, who plays "Mother" in this episode (she watches Danno's daughter Grace at the football game for him) is the woman who played a hula dancer in the original series' pilot; a 2-second clip of her shaking her hips was used in the opening titles for the whole original series.
The first episode where someone says the name Five-0.
"Malama Ka Aina" is Hawaiian for "Respect the land" (DVD).
Danno refers to McGarrett posing as James Bond--Alex O'Loughlin was in consideration as a replacement for Pierce Brosnan after he resigned the role from the series until Daniel Craig took over. This was not the first connection to the James Bond 007 franchise--the original McGarrett (Jack Lord) was the first Felix Leiter in Dr. No (1962) opposite Sean Connery (as the first on-screen James Bond).
The term "haole" is used to describe individuals who are not Native Hawaiian.
