Early releases of the game accidentally featured pictures of Sonia the Hedgehog from Sonic Underground (1999) in the Casino Park track. The versions for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 replaced the images but because the Wii version cannot be patched the images remain.
Mario was also planned to appear and be a playable character in the Wii version, but was taken out from the final game after the development team decided to only have him appear in crossovers for the "Mario & Sonic Series" only.
Is the last Sonic game to use the 4Kids voice actors in New York, who with the exceptions of Mike Pollock would be replaced by those at Studiopolis in Los Angeles starting in Sonic Free Riders (2010) released later the same year.
All of the Sonic character voices in the game are reused voice clips from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Except for Big the Cat, were new dialogue was recorded for the character.
This marks Big the Cat's second playable appearance in a spin-off video game after Sonic Shuffle (2000).
