One of only two editions of "The Carol Burnett Show" to be taped outside the United States; the other being a 1970 show taped in England.
This show was a big flop. The cast was dwarfed by the venue in which they performed, with an orchestra smack behind them and the audience surrounding them---including above and behind them. The skit with an overbearing Tim Conway as the "old man" conductor went on way too long and was largely cringeworthy. Even worse: the cameras picked up the aforementioned spectators trying to politely laugh and clap at his skit, which was largely tedious and unfunny. Equally, the sketch between Carol, Vicky and Harvey did not fit the venue. They looked "engulfed" by its vastness and---again---having people behind them did not favor them, when most of their jokes had to do with facial expressions. The performers looked mostly self-conscious and their performances were awkward. To make matters worse, the show started with an insipid dance performance by Australians outside the Sydney Opera House; it was completely out of place in the show, and failed to hold the viewing audience's attention. To top it all off, that went on for a soporific 10 or 15 minutes.
