- A world weary young man intent on suicide meets a battered young woman in the California desert. He is tired of living and she wants more from life. Together they find what they never thought existed, happiness. Happiness proves transitory as their world is torn from their fingertips.—Anonymous
- Intent on suicide, world weary Holden is taking his last ride. Meanwhile, BIllie, a battered young woman still full of life is wasting away in a roadside motel. They meet by chance. Billie impulsively leaves her bad relationship and joins the stranger on his journey. Together they drive through the starkly beautiful and harsh California desert, slowly beginning to bond. They camp out under the stars and dance in the moonlight wondering if fate has actually brought them happiness, pondering whether fate or happiness even exist. Has Holden finally found meaning in his life? What about his plan? Has Billie made a good decision after so many bad ones? For one night at least it seems so. But as in the best of film noir, People Like Us is not satisfied with happy endings. Something has to give and through a tragic misunderstanding one of them is left to pick up the pieces of their shattered world.
