The Avenue has landed North American rights to the action comedy “Old Guy,” starring Christoph Waltz, Lucy Liu and Cooper Hoffman.
Simon West directed the film, while “The Last Son” scribe Greg Johnson penned the script.
The film follows aging contract killer Danny Dolinski (Waltz), who still believes he’s the best at what he does. Stuck at a dead end but vying for the love of club manager Anata (Liu), Danny is thrilled when The Company pulls him back in the field — but it’s only to train Gen Z newcomer Wihlborg (Hoffman), a prodigy assassin with an attitude. The mismatched pair is asked to eliminate top members of a competing crime syndicate and, in the process, uncover their employer’s true motive: removing the old guard in a full takeover. However, The Company didn’t anticipate that Danny’s experience, coupled with Wihlbord’s brilliance, could enable them...

Marco Brambilla's 1993 film "Demolition Man" has a pretty wild premise. In the near-future of 1996, a wildly destructive criminal named Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) is at large and taking hostages in Los Angeles. The cop sent in to apprehend Pheonix is John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone), an officer so reckless that he's earned the nickname of Demolition Man. When Spartan finds and confronts Pheonix, he explodes the building they're in. They both escape, but an investigation reveals the bodies of the hostages in the rubble. Oops. Spartan didn't handle that operation very well.
As punishment, Spartan and Pheonix are both subjected to a new prison experiment. Instead of living in cells, prisoners are cryogenically frozen for decades and fed subliminal rehabilitation messages. Spartan is thawed in the year 2032, where the world is now overseen by a benevolent (seeming) right-wing cult leader who has whipped Los Angeles -- now San Angeles -- into shape.

It’s an interesting month on HBO and Max this March, as two acclaimed films hit the streamer along with some intriguing original programming.
First up in the movies arena is the streaming debut of Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet. From beloved Paddington director Paul King, the film follows the adventures of a young Willy Wonka as he looks to become the world’s best (and weirdest) chocolatier. Later in March on Max, there’s also Dream Scenario, a highly-regarded comedy boasting Nicolas Cage as Paul Matthews, who suddenly starts appearing in people’s dreams for unknown reasons, and who naturally becomes very famous as a result of this strange phenomena.
Series-wise, the biggest show on Max this month is The Regime. It packs a solid cast, including Kate Winslet, Matthias Schoenaerts, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant, and tells the story of “life within the walls of a modern...

Dolph Lundgren blames the lack of script involvement from Sylvester Stallone for the box office flop of the last Expendables movie. A female-led squad taking over the Expendables franchise has been discussed, but scheduling and casting difficulties make it challenging. The poor performance of Expend4bles at the box office may hinder the possibility of continuing the series, but the return of certain female characters could be exciting for fans.
There were many people who believed that Expendables 4 could see a resurgence for the action franchise, but Dolph Lundgren wasn't really one of them. Despite appearing as Gunner Jensen in all four Expendables movies, Lundgren recently got candid about why he believes last year's installment became a box office flop - and it's all down to a lack of script involvement from franchise lead Sylvester Stallone.

Directed and co-written by Sylvester Stallone, The Expendables was a hit when it was released in 2010, drawing in viewers who wanted to see an old school action movie that allowed Stallone to share the screen with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis for the first time. Two years later, The Expendables 2 was even more successful, and many fans feel that film is where the concept really reached its potential. Mistakes were made on 2014’s The Expendables 3 that could have been easily fixed with a fourth film, which should have come along after a couple years. Instead, it took nine years for Expend4bles to happen… and when it did, with Scott Waugh at the helm, Stallone not only didn’t have a writing credit, but he was barely even in the movie. Expend4bles was a box office failure. But franchise cast member Dolph Lundgren thinks we might still see The Expendables 5 someday.

Dolph Lundgren is open to returning for Expendables 5 if Sylvester Stallone is in charge and involved in the development. Stallone's creative direction and involvement in the scriptwriting were crucial to the success of the first two films in the franchise. A potential Expendables 5 needs Stallone's larger involvement to save the franchise and bring back original cast members, restoring audience interest.
While the latest chapter has left the franchise's future in doubt, Dolph Lundgren is open to an Expendables 5 return on one condition. The action genre vet has starred in all four installments in the franchise as Gunner Jensen, one of the senior members of the group of mercenaries and their heavy weapons expert. The Expendables served as the first major reunion between Lundgren and Sylvester Stallone after the former's breakthrough role of Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, which he would later reprise for 2018's Creed II.

"After Everything" is the final installment of the "After" franchise, providing closure to Tessa and Hardin's love story. Lisbon plays a significant role in the film, as Hardin travels there to reconnect with his childhood friend while still dealing with his love for Tessa.

“The Expendables” is one of Hollywood’s most famous and successful action franchises ever. It is known for its very dynamic action sequences and a star-studded ensemble cast with actors renowned for their roles in action movies, with a hint of comic relief woven into the mix. The most exciting part about this franchise is that it is directed by the man of action.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's new TV series Fubar was a massive hit, while The Expendables 4 flopped. Fubar became the 10th most-watched series on Netflix, while The Expendables 4 earned a shocking 14% on Rotten Tomatoes. Schwarzenegger avoided returning to The Expendables franchise because it didn't align with his acting desires, giving him the opportunity to pursue projects like Fubar.
Despite being one of the most popular and lauded action stars in the modern era, Arnold Schwarzenegger can still get stuck in movies that perform badly, but luckily in 2023, Schwarzenegger dodged a bullet by not appearing in The Expendables 4 and making Fubar instead. Arnold Schwarzenegger's acting career first began in 1970 when he received the title role in Hercules in New York. However, his biggest breaks came in 1982 and 1984 when he starred in Conan the Barbarian and The Terminator respectively. Since then, Schwarzenegger has remained in popular culture as an incredible action star and celebrity figure.

The Expendables franchise needs to include Jackie Chan in order to regain its former glory and revitalize the series. Jackie Chan has been approached for previous Expendables films but scheduling conflicts and his desire for a more significant role have prevented his involvement. Casting Jackie Chan as the villain in The Expendables 5 would be a major curveball and a fitting role for him to take on before retiring from action films.
The Expendables franchise can only return to its former glory by bringing one specific action hero into its ensemble. The Expendables series is a loving throwback to '80s and '90s action movies, but the series hit its first real stumble with the disappointment of The Expendables 3. While The Expendables 4 had hoped to be the long-awaited comeback for the franchise, it instead became the lowest-grossing and most poorly received movie in the series.

Chuck Norris returns to the action genre in his new film "Agent Recon," which is set to be released in 202 This marks a significant milestone for the 83-year-old actor. Norris's return comes at a time when the action genre needs a boost, particularly after the underwhelming performance of "Expendables 4." Audiences are eager to see if Norris still has what it takes to lead a big-budget action movie. Norris's absence from "Expendables 3" and "Expendables 4" could be attributed to his slowed acting career and his focus on other pursuits. It is likely that he chose not to commit to a big franchise at that stage of his career.

There is a Chuck Norris joke that says, “Chuck Norris doesn’t sleep. He waits.” Well, Norris is no longer waiting. The Karate champion-turned-action star-turned-meme would make his last outing in a bonafide starring role in 2005’s The Cutter. He would since make appearances in tongue-in-cheek cameos capitalizing on his meme fame. Even his brief appearance in 2012’s The Expendables 2 would feature him making a Chuck Norris joke. At 83 years old, it’s not a bad way to continue a career in entertainment. However, Norris is not quite ready to hang up his action fatigues.

The Expendables movies were created as a response to the dominance of glossy, PG-13 blockbusters, providing audiences with old-fashioned, R-rated action. While the quality of the films declined over time, the thrill of seeing iconic stars like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger together onscreen was a major draw for audiences. The most recent installment, Expend4bles, received negative reviews and performed poorly at the box office, suggesting the franchise may have come to an end.

Variety has reached out to Diesel’s representatives for comment. Van Damme did not not disclose which “Fast & Furious” project he was potentially being courted for.

Arguably the king of 1980s macho action movies, along with Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stallone has headlined a slew of incredibly iconic films. Even today, the seasoned actor has been involved in some fantastic films from across genres.
Sylvester Stallone has played everything from troubled soldiers and hard-boiled assassins to straight-laced detectives and athletes. The actor best fits into physical roles that show off his physique and action prowess, but he's proven himself as versatile an actor as any of his peers. Expend4bles has had a disappointing box office performance, earning only $27 million worldwide despite its $100 million budget. Hocus Pocus, a decades-old Disney movie, pushed Expend4bles out of the domestic top 10, with Hocus Pocus grossing $1.5 million compared to Expend4bles' $1 million. This poor box office performance, coupled with negative reviews, suggests a gloomy future for The Expendables franchise.
Expend4bles is ousted from the box office top 10 by a decades-old Disney movie. Expend4bles finished its third weekend at the box office, and has maintained a sufficiently disappointing take home throughout. Kicking off with an $8.3 million opening weekend that underperformed, Expend4bles has made a paltry $27 million at the worldwide box office, paling in comparison to Expend4bles's estimated $100 million budget.

One of the most curious aspects of Expend4bles, the fourth installment in the Expendables action film series, is trying to figure out exactly why series distributor Lionsgate and star Sylvester Stallone thought that audiences wanted to see another Expendables film, given the downward trajectory that the series has been on, commercially and creatively, over the past decade.
Indeed, all available evidence suggests that audiences had long ago lost interest in the Expendable series, which, prior to the release of Expend4bles, had been dormant since 2014, when the previous installment, The Expendables 3, was released to commercial indifference and overwhelmingly negative reviews.
However, at its current snaillike box office pace, Expend4bles, which is also known as Expendables 4, is set to make The Expendables 3 look like a blockbuster success story, as while Expend4bles has indeed received the worst reviews of any film in the series, the film’s current box office performance,...

The possibility of an all-female Expendables squad is uncertain and has not moved closer to fruition, according to producer Les Weldon. The Expendables franchise already has potential candidates for a female lineup, such as Gina (played by Megan Fox) and CIA agent Maggie Chan (played by Yu Nan). Although there are building blocks in place, the poor performance of Expend4bles may hinder the possibility of a sequel or spin-off.
What are the odds that an all-female Expendables squad will come together in the future? The concept is an intriguing one, which theoretically mirrors the appearance of the A-Force squad that consisted of only super-powered women in Avengers: Endgame. However, fans of The Expendables franchise shouldn't get too excited at this point. Producer Les Weldon said in an interview with ComicBook.com:

The Expendables movies initially gained attention for their nostalgic cast of 80s and 90s action stars, but they have gradually lost the elements that made them fun. The franchise has run out of 80s action stars to use, making it difficult to continue milking nostalgia without fresh additions to the cast. The long wait for The Expendables 4 caused audiences to lose interest and forget the story arcs and characters' motivations, risking the franchise's existing viewer base. Change is necessary for the next installment to succeed.
A lot has gone wrong with The Expendables over time, but the action movie franchise can still change its trajectory and fix itself before it is too late. In recent years, many action movie franchises like John Wick, Mad Max, and Mission Impossible have grown from strength to strength with each installment. Although The Expendables showed a similar level of promise with its initial installments,...

Expend4bles director Scott Waugh expresses optimism about Jackie Chan joining the franchise, saying that "anything's possible" if their schedules align. Chan has been a fan favorite to join The Expendables team for years, with Stallone trying to recruit him for previous movies. Chan turned down previous opportunities due to schedule conflicts and limited screen time. The future of The Expendables franchise is uncertain, as Expend4bles has performed poorly at the box office with low reviews.
Expend4bles director Scott Waugh addressed whether Jackie Chan might appear in Expendables 5. Expend4bles is Waugh’s first movie in The Expendables franchise, having previously come from directing 2014’s Need for Speed. The Expend4bles cast includes Jason Statham, 50 Cent, Megan Fox, Dolph Lundgren, Andy Garcia, and Sylvester Stallone. Unfortunately, the latest installment has performed poorly at the box office, but that hasn't stopped conversations about a possible Expendables 5.

The Expendables 4 marks a transition from Sylvester Stallone to Jason Statham as the leading man, with director Scott Waugh describing this change as "exciting." Despite Stallone's reduced role, he will always be a part of the franchise as the starter and original director of The Expendables. The future of the franchise is uncertain due to the poor reviews and underperformance of The Expendables 4, raising doubts about the possibility of an Expendables 5.
The Expendables 4 director Scott Waugh explains Sylvester Stallone’s future in the franchise. The Expendables franchise was conceptualized in part by Stallone, who directed and starred in the first movie. The series went on to feature Stallone heavily in both The Expendables 2 and The Expendables 3 before he took on a smaller role in the newly-released fourth film and ceded the spotlight to Jason Statham.

The Expendables 4 finally hit theaters. The last entry in the series The Expendables 3 was released almost a decade ago. Between its PG-13 rating — a switch from the R-rating of The Expendables and The Expendables 2 — and its poor critical and commercial reception, many weren't hopeful that The Expendables 4 wouldn't happen. Nevertheless, the fourth movie finally entered production in 2021 and wrapped filming in October, officially resurrecting the franchise once more.

They sold it with a list of surnames: Stallone. Statham. Li. Lundgren. Couture. Austin. Crews. Willis. The only name missing was Schwarzenegger, and that’s simply because they wanted his cameo to be a surprise. (He’d make the poster for the sequel.) Two of them came from the worlds of pro-wrestling and UFC fighting, and one of them was an ex-NFL linebacker. But it still read like an Action Hero Hall of Fame roll call, especially in the year of our lord 2010. That was the appeal, or maybe just the gimmick,...

It's almost time to see your favorite action stars from across the decades team up to fight the bad guys again in "Expend4bles." The first two films -- 2010's "The Expendables" and 2012's "The Expendables 2" -- were action packed with some wild violence. Of course, they were rated R for some juicy and intense action scenes. However, the last film, 2014's "The Expendables 3," softened up the whole thing with a PG-13 rating, which left a lot of fans disappointed. The new film will be full R. Violence is back, baby! Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture return to their franchise roles, with Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, and Andy García joining the cast.

Expendables 4, the fourth and latest installment in the action adventure series, Expendables, is finally out in the theaters, but it seems to be miserably failing in attracting viewers.
Raking in merely $750,000 from its Thursday night preview shows, the film, also stylized as Expend4bles, barely dodged in setting a new low for the franchise. Starring Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham, the film beat the second installment, 2012's The Expendables 2, that had earned $725,000 from previews, although that film ultimately turned out to be the second highest-grosser in the franchise with over $85 million, following the first film's $103 million, which had generated $870,000 in previews, back in 2010.

The Expendables 4 is ranked as the worst movie in the franchise, lacking enjoyable elements and wasting new additions to the cast. The Expendables 3 suffers from a PG-13 rating and the inclusion of a younger cast, deviating from the franchise's DNA and resulting in lackluster action. The Expendables 2 offers cleaner and flashier action, capturing the vibe of a 90s-era action film, but the original The Expendables is still the best.

The Expendables 4 aka the incomprehensible Expend4bles took in $750,000 in previews on Thursday, indicating it could be headed towards a $15 million or so opening, according to sources.
Such an opening weekend would make it a tough mountain for The Expendables 4 to climb to recoup its $100 million budget. But if previous entries are any indication, it’s the international box office that will help it reach that goal. The previous outing, 2014’s The Expendables 3, opened with just under $16 million, peaking at #4 at the box office. Domestically, it would gross just $39 million, but the worldwide haul easily pushed it past $200 million, making it a global success. Still, it should be noted that The Expendables 3 had a Thursday take of $875,000.

The 80s era was memorable for a lot of things, but especially for the rise of iconic action heroes like Rambo, Dutch, Ripley, Sarah Conner, and John McClane, to name a few, portrayed by legendary actors who forever changed the landscape of the genre. Their screen presence, insistence on the portrayal of physicality in action sequences, and larger-than-life appearance have captivated generations of fans ever since—and led to the franchise boom in the first place. Long before studio-wide superhero crossovers took over Hollywood, it was a dream of every action movie fan to see their favorite stars sharing the screen together, and Sylvester Stallone, an action legend himself, fulfilled the dream by creating The Expendables franchise. The franchise is now three movies strong, and after a prolonged nine-year gap, the fourth part is about to crush theaters worldwide this weekend.

Major spoilers for "Expend4bles" follow.
Ever since "The Expendables" was released in 2010, the identity and tone of the franchise has been heavily in question. That first film seemed to want to have things both ways, presenting the trials and tribulations of the (very fictional) titular team of mercenaries while metatextually commenting on (and piggybacking off of) the action stars playing them. Put another way, it's as if the crossover formula seen in Marvel's "The Avengers" franchise was reversed: the coming together of the film's stars are the big draw, while the characters are (at least initially) not well known.
While 2012's "The Expendables 2" leaned far more into the meta aspects of people like Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Chuck Norris showing up in the same film, 2014's "The Expendables 3" attempted to find a similar balance to the first film, establishing its characters in their own right while still...

Plot: The Expendables go after a team of mercenaries connected to a legendary arms dealer whose identity is unknown.
Review: Millennium Media has taken nine years to develop a fourth entry into the Expendables series. Things have changed in the near-decade since the last movie, which is reflected in the fact that this series instalment is much smaller scale than the ones that came before it. It’s primarily a spin-off entry for Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas, with the titular Expendables only supporting our hero on a personal mission, with Sylvester Stallone’s Barney Ross contributing little more than a cameo.
While that’s undeniably disappointing, Expend4bles is still a fun enough action flick if you keep your expectations in check. The budget seems much smaller than it was for the previous films, with abysmal CGI. Most of the action is confined to a cargo ship, as the Expendables...

In “Expend4bles,” the action is more digitally propulsive than it was in “The Expendables” (2010), “The Expendables 2” (2012), or “The Expendables 3” (2014). Yet the preferred mode of killing is reassuringly primitive. In scene after scene, characters use knives to slit people’s throats, or they’ll sometimes jam a knife directly into the throat. “Expend4bles” is punctuated by those quick homicidal bursts of blood spatter. They’re effective, but because they feel a lot like the video-game slashings in a “John Wick” movie, the defining spirit of the “Expendables” series — the aging action heroes of the Reagan era all gathered together for a big dumb neo-’80s marathon of old-school combat destruction — now feels nearly as far away as the ’80s did when the first movie came out.

The on-screen figures in the "Expendables" movies aren't so much characters as they are human-shaped bundles of toxically masculine clichés and blind, violent impulses wrapped in skull-emblazoned kevlar. They lurch about on-screen like Frankensteinian monsters, living piles of jock straps and congealed taurine drinks, belching out monosyllabic action flick catchphrases in between Don Julio-instigated brawls and violent, bullet-riddled missions in other countries. These characters have no thoughts, no humanity, no sense of morals or righteousness. They have no desires other than a distant lizard-brain perception that soldiers in other countries probably need to blow up. "G.I. Joe" is more sophisticated.
With Scott Waugh's "Expend4bles" we are now four films deep into this series, and the franchise's original saleable gimmick has been abandoned. One might recall that Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables" and Simon West's "The Expendables 2" existed merely to unite a cadre of ultra-macho, well-worn badass...
