The 1979 ITV strike which saw London Night Out get less episodes also impacted on the ratings. While they were still very strong, with an average of 14.68 million tuning in (not counting the Christmas Special) the higher demands of the Autumn TV audience meant that the chart places were a lot lower, averaging at 12th position in the ratings. The run only made the Top 10 twice, and needed 15 million viewers or more to achieve the feat.
This opening episode charted at 14th place in the ratings with 13.4 million viewers.
