Same old

This show isn't awful. Just pretty much the same as all of the other reno shows out there. What bothered me in the episode I saw was that they relegated the pet Guinea pig to the bottom cabinet in a laundry room. They're social animals. Seems cruel to keep them in a room away from the rest of the family.

Please give the guinea pig a better enclosure
shannondavidhome29 January 2023
This is a fairly standard, enjoyable HGTV home renovation show - except for season 1, episode 5, when the homeowners' guinea pig is moved into a bottom cabinet of the laundry room, with much less natural light and seemingly less ventilation than the previous enclosure. Overall, I appreciated the designer's ability to creatively reimagine floor plans, but the family didn't mention the guinea pig's location or enclosure as a problem (at least not in the footage that aired). The family seemed to love their guinea pig, so I'm hoping they were just being polite when they marveled at the cabinet and didn't end up using it. I hope Poncho gets lots of love and attention.

Reactions are annoyingly over exaggerated
lesliekennell-1778910 March 2023
Liked the show and then all of a sudden I found myself getting irritable. I stopped doing what I was doing and focused solely on the TV. It was the homeowners responses to their renovation. Way way way over the top! All of them! Definitely being coached. Some even laughing wildly. Laughing? Why would you laugh? Smiling is good but laughing made no sense to me. The husband didn't bother me one way or the other. He's obviously just there to bounce things off. It's just those over directed over the top reactions I can't stomach. The renovations are all pleasing, I didn't see one I didn't like. And the host is good. One more negative is the wallpaper offerings. But obviously that's a very personal like/dislike.

Give me a break, please.
txriverotter17 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode, right out of the gate, I'm wondering why this show exists. It must be solely to showcase rich, white people who have nothing better to spend money on then adding MORE space to their house, to clutter it up.

We walk into the backyard, because this is why the couple bought their home. They hate the house, love the yard. But then we walk into the house and there's crap EVERYWHERE. Laundry, paperwork, toys, just crap everywhere.

They're problem is NOT that they don't have room; they just don't like to clean house. Because they have two HUGE living rooms. Side-by-side HUGE living rooms. But their big sofa and dining room table are in one, and what looks like a random overflow of junk has filled up the other.

Their kitchen is the only area that needs real help. In a huge house, they have this teeny, tiny kitchen. So I can get behind redesign there. But the rest is just silly.

Then the husband is whining because his "office" is in the laundry/pantry room and he's "so mad" because he's on a call and all people can see is their stacked washer and dryer. Well, buddy, I have a solution for ya, CLOSE THE DOOR THAT'S THERE TO HIDE THOSE THINGS!

Then they navigate to their primary bedroom where they just have "no privacy." Poor babies have no retreat just for them. And yet there's a king size bed, as well as a super size twin/full Murphy bed at the end of that, for their kids to "crash in the middle of the night." WTF?!

So rather than redesigning the space they already clearly have, this new show runner adds in a NEW primary suite with a huge bathroom, closet etc. PLUS an office for the poor hubby, so he's not so embarrassed by his laundry.

Give me a break! I will give this one more episode but if the next one is as ridiculous as this, I won't watch anymore. Rather than taking $100,000 to add on to this house, this couple needed a therapist and a home organizing team. People to teach them that if they want private time with mommy and daddy, then kiddies have to stay in their own rooms. Then a whole team to buy them cabinets and shelves and organize the hell out of all that crap, and teach them how to put things back where they find them, then their house will be nice and neat.

They're all jumping up and down over the nice design this lady did for them, but let's be realistic, in a week there's gonna be laundry everywhere, toys everywhere and whatever else crap they had piled up everywhere. They didn't learn a damn thing except to put a band aid on a missing limb that clearly needs ER treatment.

Fun watch
lrossignol-454163 April 2022
As someone who recently bought a home that needs some work I really enjoyed the first episode of this show. Look forward to seeing more. Kim did a good job. I knew her from Survivor so it was interesting to see her more in her element here.

Needed storage space
slsprag16 April 2022
The homeowners had clutter all over the place, including on the counters.

Instead of putting things away they spent $100,000 for a remodel.

Another dismal HGTV show.

Watch Season 2 Episode 3, "Catfish", mic drop
lisettelafortune5 February 2024
In such a crowded field of copy cat home reno shows, my top two are Fixer Upper and Why the Heck Did I Buy This House. So why watch Season 2 of this show? It is to see relatable real people (the homebuyers), living in a real city (San Antonio, one of the 4 unique cities in the U. S.), overwhelmed by real situations (all very "oh no!" relatable) that are solved by a genuine, gregarious host (ICYMI go back and watch a few Survivor Season 24 "One World" episodes). To the previous reviewer who made disparaging remarks about Bryan. He's an authentic, intelligent, really nice guy. His background is Professional (rather than a Trade) and his role in Wolfe Home is akin to COO. To the producers ... I look forward to Season 3.

What is the point of the husband?
bmf-8707115 April 2022
Basically, Kim Wolfe's finished designs are quite impressive, but the process is irritating. In future, I'll watch the beginning to see the house and its problems and then skip to the end to see the final renovation. But, why, why, why was her husband cast in the show - he adds nothing. In fact, he is a bit creepy and looks like he belongs in a slasher movie. This show can in no way compare to the other wife designer/husband builder shows on HGTV.

Boring Design.
aztecmetal24 May 2022
I gave this show a chance I couldn't get past the first episode. So many things wrong. Overall there was nothing exciting or new about the design. White on white, how original. Wasted innovative opportunities given the gigantic budget. Yawn, next.

Good design
dianeo-157609 May 2022
Overall designs are good, the one I watched tonight had excellent design throughout. I like that there is not a lot of drama, which can be tiring and predictable. Not sure why hubby is on the show.

Mediocre production
christinemaraisphilip28 August 2022
Kim's voice is very irritating and reminds me time and again why I don't like watching the program. Not the kind of voice one wants to listen to for the duration of the program. I often woner if the producers don't know that that is important to viewers. Kim's personality is very nice, but the way she speaks in her throat, that is very irritating. As for the design of the homes they renovate.... it is nice, but doesn't wow me. Some of the choices they make, are a big NO to me. The interaction between the husband and wife is very sweet and adorable. I understand that people cannot choose their voice, but maybe she can take speech classes to not speak almost like she's gurgling? Fact is, her voice is very off putting for me.

Love this show.
markawyman9 July 2022
@ altoncagle

I love it when the Designer takes a turn on the machinery. I watch Good Bones and both Mina & Karen drive the machines and they have a lot of fun doing it.

I see no reason why Only the "labor" crew should drive the machines. Everyone that would like to drive them, should be able to.

I watch So many shows on HGTV, I'd love to see more Canadian shows though. I know there are a few but they need more.

Hideously bad taste
Even by the standards of shows that air on HGTV and/or TLC, this latest variation of house p-rn sets the standard for having a blow-dried host acting as a project manager, making complex project come to life for unrealistic budgets, and ending up with irredeemably hideous final results.

I am diving in for the first time with the episode where the host who looks like a model is managing the renovation of a chef and his wife who bought some scabby little bungalow on some scabby little street.

The project proceeds, costs run up, hurdles both real and contrived are overcome.

Then comes the reveal: the front landing has wh-rehouse wallpaper; the bathroom has a garish combo of copper pedestal sinks and gold-framed mirrors, and on it goes.

In 20+ years of watching these shows on these networks - including all of Tex and Edna Gaines tributes to bad taste, and that pair of tw!ts in Vegas (is that still on?) - this is the ugliest, crassest, most god-awful ugly house I have even seen (whether "before" or "after").

If I ever bother to watch it again, it will probably be for camp value.

Unexciting designs
mohap-078876 June 2022
The show is way too long , and at the end the designs are uninspiring and insipid. Also, the woman who the lead designer should take a lesson from the female designers of other shows ( Windy City Rehab, anyone?) and make and effort to understand "numbers' it is not that hard . Will save you trouble in the long run.

Where do they find these homeowners
sheba-8077316 January 2024
On the very first episode she goes into a house and I'm hoping that the homeowners intentionally made the house look like a junkyard because would anybody in their right mind let their kids have toys on every inch of space in the house? Would anybody in their right mind have dirty clothes and dishes sitting around? And all the whining that the homeowners do "oh I was so attached to that". Grow up for heaven's sakes and if you really want something changed then let the designers do their work and quit complaining. I for one would love to have a makeover and I wouldn't complain about a thing they were doing. Or maybe the producers coach the people on how bad the house should look and all the bad things they should say and or complain about just so they think it might make the show more interesting?

What the heck did I watch ?
RaeGal-446119 April 2024
So this is my first time watching this show after seeing it on the list of suggestions constantly.

First episode was a bunch of slobs.

Pick up the laundry! Take the food items and flammables off the stove top and clean up your mess! 200k is down payment on a new house but these people spend every dime for storage and organization and they get a cabinet and fireplace in the corner of a living room. What kind of design is that??? No storage at all added for the kids toys and then this brother and sister design team add some dangerously pointed horn sconces right at child-eye-levels! Then cue the token "safety hazard" that none of these pro's saw coming.... Added 3 stars for some decent work and at least one family got an entire addition.

boring designs
ablondmoment2 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Why is the husband even on the show? He just always stands around looking like he has no idea what is going on lol.

The horrible music on this show gets really old fast! This music gets worse as the show goes along.

The designs she comes up with are mostly so boring. It would feel so cold to live in those homes. I like homes that feel homey.

. I hate the horrible wallpaper she adds to most of the homes. I would rather have painted walls. The wallpapering got worse in season 2 adding really awful wallpaper to the walls why? I would not want that or any wallpaper in my house.

There are so many other shows that have better designers on them.

Why?
altoncagle28 April 2022
Why did we need another HGTV show where the designer has to do all the manual labor things on the show? You never see classy designers like JoAnna Gaines trying to drive a Bobcat or install drywall. The cheap circle drive on the show we just watched looked horrible but did look really cheap. You should be a designer or just labor but not both.

Same remodels with subtle differences
lilterryj2 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So I will give you all the scenes of seemingly every episode. Start by showing Kim in or around her truck. Picks up submissive husband. They drive to client. Scene accented by truck. Client tells them everything they hate about the house, but usually can be somewhat alleviated by decluttering and not letting kids just rule the house. They give large budget. Kim sledgehammers old walls. Kim whips out tape measure a few times. Kim drives truck to show client weird objects with odd color pallets which somehow all seem to end up being the same in every house by the time the reno is done. Greens, blues, whites, bronze. They run across "huge problem". Huge problem corrected quickly with no issue. Kim shops for tiles and antiques and constantly reminds us how she likes shopping for tiles and antiques which all end up being brass colored antiques with non matching tiles. Kim drives truck more. Kim offloads cabinets and counters. Counters somehow are always granite top white veiny color that remind her of her clients...her words not mine. The big reveal..over the top reaction by clients, camera cuts revealing painted outside with 2 rectangle porch lights and painted windows, open space for kitchen, dining, and living space, decluttered areas, bathroom with new fixtures, counters, and weird tiles, and some new shelves. The end. Seems to remodel every house almost the same as if she is going to live in it for herself since she never really listens when the client says they don't want certain things. They still get some form of it anyway especially the hideous wallpaper choices.
