Zac Efron may have risen to prominence after starring in the High School Musical trilogy, but he's since reinvented himself in a big way.
Shedding the "frat boy" persona movies like Neighbors and Dirty Grandpa later labelled him with, the actor has shown a darker, far more serious side in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile and The Iron Claw. Now, all eyes are on what Efron does next.
If a new rumour shared by @MyTimeToShineH is to be believed, then it could be a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
We don't have any news on who he'll play, though there are plenty of possibilities. Recently, there have been rumours about Marvel Studios finally moving forward with a Nova TV series, and while the focus is expected to be on Sam Alexander, Efron would arguably make a perfect Richard Rider.

Roadmap Writers, a screenwriting education and training platform based in Los Angeles, is partnering with Hollywood producer Barry Josephson to identify short stories fit for film and television adaptation.
The competition, open now and running through June 14, seeks commercial-leaning work and carries a cash prize of $7,000. The top three stories will be published on Roadmap Writers.
Short stories have become coveted in the rights market, especially over the past year, and have led to bidding wars among the major studios and streamers. Author Victor Sweetser sold the innovative haunted house film “The Occupant” to New Line this year, and Matt Query got a 7-figure deal at Netflix for his Reddit short story “My Wife and I Bought a Ranch.”
For the Josephson competition, scouters are asking for work no longer than 50 pages and can be of any genre. In addition to the short story, authors are requested to submit a...

Iconic actor Robert De Niro has revealed the most unique piece of acting advice he gave his Dirty Grandpa co-star Zac Efron for portraying intoxication on screen. Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, Efron recalled De Niro’s suggestion to simply start spinning around aimlessly.
While filming the 2016 comedy about a debauched road trip to Florida, De Niro passed on various “great legendary tips” to guide Efron in believably playing drunk for certain scenes without overacting. But there was one offbeat trick that stuck out.

Peter Farrelly made his name in Hollywood by directing raunchy comedies such as "Dumb and Dumber" and "There's Something About Mary" alongside his brother, Bobby Farrelly. Since going solo, however, Peter Farrelly has been making more serious fare such as the Oscar-winning "Green Book." But now, he's back with an R-rated comedy in the form of "Ricky Stanicky." With an A-list cast and a ridiculous premise, it looks like a throwback in every conceivable way. Check out the trailer above for yourself.
Here, Farrelly is re-teaming with Zac Efron, who worked with him on "The Greatest Beer Run Ever." While Efron is coming off of the most serious performance of his career in "The Iron Claw," this sees him going back to his comedic roots, having previously starred in films like "Neighbors" and "Dirty Grandpa." Meanwhile, John Cena is getting to flex his comedic chops as well as the titular character.

After a six-year run leading Miramax, CEO Bill Block is exiting the studio, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Block’s contract at Miramax, co-owned by beIN Media Group and Paramount Global, expired this week and was not renewed. The executive started as CEO in April 2017.
The studio is looking to develop projects based on its own intellectual property rather than aiming to acquire projects, a source close to Miramax’s owners said. A search is underway for a new top executive.
Miramax, founded by Harvey and Bob Weinstein and then later purchased and sold by Disney, has largely been known in recent years for its expansive library of more than 700 films. However, since Block joined and its acquisition by BeIN and Paramount, the studio has tried to make a bigger push into producing and distribution with the relaunch of the Halloween franchise, as well as films such as The Gentleman,...

No Hard Feelings: Digital, Blu-ray, and DVD details announced for Jennifer Lawrence’s raunchy comedy
Gene Stupnitsky’s raunchy R-rated comedy, No Hard Feelings, is coming to the home market later this month. According to Sony Pictures, the hilarious and decidedly horny comedy releases on Blu-ray and DVD on August 29, with the Digital release coming next week on August 15. Extras for the home release of No Hard Feelings include Outtakes & Bloopers, A Motley Crew: Meet the Characters, and A Little Wrong: Making No Hard Feelings.
The spicy comedy tells the story of Maddie, a woman on the brink of losing her home who finds a curious job listing: parents looking for someone to bring their introverted 19-year-old son out of his shell before college. Maddie’s mission is to cure Percy Becker (Andrew Barth Feldman) of his insecurity and turn him into a medalist in the Bedroom Olympics if you catch my drift.
The comedy comes from Gene Stupnitsky, who co-wrote 2011’s Bad Teacher and 2009’s Year One.

It’s official, The Mother is one of Netflix’s most popular films of all time.
The Jennifer Lopez action thriller has continued to dominate the streamer since it debuted over Mother’s Day weekend. It tallied another 16.48M hours viewed for the week of May 29 to June 4, making it the most-watched film on the service for the fourth week in a row. With 229.30M total hours viewed, it is now No. 8 on the Most Popular English Film List, replacing Purple Hearts and bumping The Irishman off the list entirely.
The film still has time to make its way up the most popular list. Its 28-day premiere measurement window will end on June 11, and it is already inching fairly close to its next two opponents on the list — Extraction with 231.3M hours viewed and The Adam Project with 233.2M hours viewed.

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (Universal) has grossed triple what “John Wick: Chapter 4” (Lionsgate) has in theaters. But for home viewers, the latest Keunu Reeves action sequel booted the Nintendo game animated film out of all #1 VOD rankings after only one week.
Impressively, this was not only on iTunes and Google Play (which rank by number of transactions) but also Vudu, which tallies by revenue. “Wick” costs the standard $19.99 to view, while “Smb” is $24.99 ($29.99 to own). That suggests at that site at least it had a clear lead for the week. Meantime, “Smb” is a unanimous #2.
At Netflix, the success of recent Sony titles continues to be seen among their most viewed movies. The studio, lacking its own streaming site, now regularly sends its films there a few months after release. “Missing” continues at #1, but the surprise this week has been the success of “The Son.”

When Leonardo DiCaprio introduced the Life Achievement Award at the Screen Actors Guild annual ceremony in 2020, he recalled his father taking him to the cinema to watch "Midnight Run" when he was 13 years old. During the film, his dad said to him:
"If you really want to be an actor and get into this profession, if you want to understand what great acting is, you watch that man on screen."
No, he wasn't talking about Charles Grodin; he was referring to the actor honored that night for his legendary career, Robert De Niro. A few years after that trip to the movie house, DiCaprio found himself starring alongside the legendary actor in "This Boy's Life." It was a major break for the teenager after roles in "Critters 3" and "Poison Ivy," and he more than held his own against the two-time Oscar winner playing a young man suffering abuse at...

Late last year, Jennifer Lawrence had returned to her indie roots as she starred in an intimate character drama titled Causeway, which dealt with grief, forgiveness, acceptance, and moving on. Lawrence will be venturing into lighter-hearted material, still meant for mature audiences, but in a different manner. She is starring in the raunchy comedy, No Hard Feelings. The title is a double entendre, which plays on the concept of her character being hired to take the V-card of a socially awkward college-bound teen by his concerned parents.
The comedy comes from Gene Stupnitsky, who had co-wrote 2011’s Bad Teacher and 2009’s Year One. He recently helmed Good Boys, which was a shake-up of an American Pie-esque movie, only this time involving younger boys, and their ultimate goal was to kiss a girl. Here, Stupnitsky once again plays with conventions in a script he co-wrote with John Phillips, who had produced...

Rumors of cinema's demise may have been greatly exaggerated ... or at least have arrived somewhat prematurely.
In the midst of box office analysts and movie nerds screaming that the sky is falling, partly motivated by superhero movies (and the occasional "Fast & Furious sequel) becoming the only dependably profitable movies at the box office while the mid-budget feature targeted for adults has practically disappeared entirely, we might have a glimpse of hope. Original and R-rated adult comedies may be a dying breed these days, but salvation has potentially arrived in the form of, well, Jennifer Lawrence trying to get a 19-year-old to sleep with her. I'm suddenly thinking of that classic Shakespeare quote about strange bedfellows, for some reason.
It's true -- moviegoers have been starved of the kinds of raunchy sex comedies that used to be all the rage in the early aughts. Part of that might be because we...

There’s no doubt that Robert De Niro is funny, but his recent taste in comedies have certainly called his sense of humor into question. It’s been over 20 years since “Analyze This” and “Meet the Parents” launched the robust comedy leg of the Oscar winner’s career, but not every subsequent project has been as successful. Following the twin head scratchers of “Dirty Grandpa” and “The War with Grandpa” (unrelated; though equally ignored), the godfather of Hollywood has finally found his comedy groove again.
And wouldn’t you know, all it took was a good, old-fashioned Italian American family farce — fittingly titled “About My Father.” Though there’s a wide swath of the public for whom De Niro can do no wrong, even giants can fall. Luckily, Sebastian Maniscalco knows the importance of family.

Whether you view him as the patron saint of filmmaking or politely respect the man and his contributions to cinema without worshipping him at the shrine, there's no denying that Martin Scorsese's new film, "Killers of the Flower Moon," is a pretty momentous occasion. It's the first time the director has collaborated with both of his muses, Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, on a feature-length project, having previously teamed up with them on his 2015 meta-comedy short "The Audition." But why did it take so long?
It wasn't for lack of trying. By the time Scorsese had begun his run with DiCaprio in the early 2000s (which is now six films deep), De Niro had entered what you could dub his comedy phase. Starting with Harold Ramis' 1999 comedy "Analyze This," a movie in which De Niro knowingly sends up his mobster personas in Scorsese's "Goodfellas" and "Casino," the actor...

The prolific actor has announced he is now a father of seven. Is this why he made Dirty Grandpa and The War With Grandpa and The Intern and Salvage Station?
The most impressive thing about Robert De Niro is how prolific he is. The man is 79 years old, and simply cannot stop. In the last 10 years alone he has made 19 films, with four more coming this year. Have they represented the best work of his career? Probably not, although someone out there must love Dirty Grandpa. On top of that, he owns or part-owns a string of highly successful hospitality ventures. And on top of that he just had his seventh child.
This last one counts as news. During an interview with Et Canada to promote his new movie About My Father, reporter Britnee Blair said to De Niro “I know you have six kids”, to which De Niro replied “Seven,...

Disney Channel has served as the launchpad for many stars over the years, from the High School Musical kids to the performers who made it big in shows like That’s So Raven and Lizzie McGuire. While many of these stars went on to distance themselves from Disney in the years following their rise to fame, there are some young actors who have returned to work with the company on various projects. Here are a few of the talented performers who went on to work with Disney even after their early years on the Disney Channel.

Must-watch comedy series, eye-opening documentaries and an expansion of the “Bridgerton” universe are among the noteworthy additions to Netflix this month. May 12 sees the premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s new Netflix original film “The Mother,” in which she plays an assassin lured back in for one last job. And on May 23, the documentary “Victim/Suspect” examines how sexual assault victims too often get turned into suspects when they report their assaults.
“Queen Charlotte,” the “Bridgerton” prequel series, arrives on May 4 while a new season of Tim Robinson’s sketch series “I Think You Should Leave” drops on May 30. And if you missed the most recent season of the niche (but delightful) comedy series “Documentary Now!,” you can stream that on Netflix starting May 9.

Netflix recently announced it would be investing $2.5 billion into South Korean programming. Before Squid Game season 2 comes down the pike, however, the first seeds of that investment will bear fruit for Netflix in May 2023.
Netflix’s list of new releases for May 2023 is highlighted by the May 12 release of Korean series Black Knight. Set “in a dystopian 2071 devastated by air pollution,” this show will follow world-saving deliverymen known as “Black Knights.” Other international offerings this month include Japanese sumo drama Sanctuary on May 4 and Spanish crime thriller Muted on May 19.
Netflix’s domestic TV options this month include Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on May 4. That will be followed by post-apocalyptic animated comedy Mulligan on May 12 and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s TV debut Fubar on May 25. And for those hoping for “triples,” I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson premieres on May 30.

After Jennifer Lawrence returned to her indie roots with the intimate character drama Causeway, the actress is now venturing into much lighter material with the raunchy comedy, No Hard Feelings. The film’s plot was generally under wraps, but Sony has now released the trailer that reveals the zany nature that would give the movie a firm seat next to comedies like American Pie and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Variety reports on the new red band trailer that gives us all the dirty goodness.
The trailer shows Lawrence as a promiscuous Uber driver named Maddie, who is on the verge of losing her house, and her means of transportation was just towed. In desperation, she answers a Craigslist ad from wealthy parents who are looking to help pry their son, Percy, out of his shell just before he goes to college. The parents proposition Maddie to give their son one hell of a “date,...

“I’m not in that movie because I got so scared when I walked in the room,” Witherspoon recalled auditioning for De Niro’s 1991 thriller “Cape Fear” during Thursday’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
“I didn’t know who Robert De Niro was, so I was standing outside talking to the receptionist. She was like, ‘You know he’s the most important actor of our time, right?'” the award-winning actress continued to tell host Jimmy Kimmel, noting that, as a teen, she got very nervous during auditions.

Aubrey Plaza is on a roll. It took a while for her to find her way after "Parks and Recreation" ended and her time as April Ludgate came to a close. Appearing alongside Robert DeNiro in 2016's "Dirty Grandpa" didn't quite catapult her to megastar level, and while 2017's "Ingrid Goes West" was a memorable entry in her filmography, she seemed to fade from the spotlight after her brief flirtation with next-level stardom.
But a consistent output of strong performances in indies like "The Little Hours," "An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn," and "Addicted to Fresno" have demonstrated Plaza's versatile talents and tireless work ethic. And now things have picked up even more, and Plaza is, according to GQ, "leveling up." 2022's "Emily The Criminal" saw her deliver a surprisingly raw performance as an embattled catering company worker turned fraudster. That was quickly followed by a starring role in...

The tailend of 2022 has been tough for many of us. Twitter users, English football fans, and folks hoping to avoid yet another Covid-19 holiday spike are just a few groups who have much to grumble about. But do you know who’s been crushing it in Q4 of 2022? Aubrey Plaza.
The Parks and Recreation breakout star is having a banner year thanks to a role in the much-discussed, just-wrapped The White Lotus Season 2 as well as the titular role in the indie thriller Emily the Criminal, which has been quietly building traction on Netflix. ‘Emily the Criminal’ star Aubrey Plaza has opened up about “weirding out” Robert De Niro when the two worked together in 2016’s ‘Dirty Grandpa’.
Reflecting on her working relationship with the ‘Raging Bull’ actor (the two actors played lovers in Dan Mazer’s gross-out comedy), Plaza clarified that any way De Niro could have been offended by her behaviour would have been due to her staying committed to her character, reports ‘Variety’.

Aubrey Plaza described her on-set relationship with Robert De Niro while filming their sex comedy Dirty Grandpa, admitting that she “freaked” him out.
The Parks and Recreation actor starred in the 2016 comedy as Lenore whose singular goal is to have sex with De Niro’s grandfather character.
“By the time he’d show up, I’m in character,” Plaza explained during a recent London Film Festival ScreenTalk session, as reported by Variety. “I was acting totally insane as the character because we were about to shoot.”
She added: “I don’t think he understood that wasn’t me. You’d think he would because he’s an actor and an amazing one.”
Plaza, 38, said that one of her agents had “heard Bob’s a little freaked out”. At a cast and crew lunch hosted by De Niro, the Emmy-winning actor didn’t recognise Plaza when she was out of character.

“I auditioned to get that part. I really wanted that part. I created the character for myself and I wanted to make the most of it. I’m working with De Niro. I’m playing his love interest. Nothing’s going to stop me,” she told the festival audience. “But I didn’t get time with him. There wasn’t time to get to know him or anything like that. He shows up like a puff of smoke when he’s shooting.

Aubrey Plaza has opened up about “weirding out” Robert De Niro when the pair worked together in 2016’s “Dirty Grandpa.”
The actor and producer addressed years of swirling rumors about “being weird” and spoke about her commitment to her films at every stage of the process during a London Film Festival ScreenTalk session hosted by Leigh Singer, ahead of the release of Plaza’s new film “Emily The Criminal”.
Reflecting on her working relationship with the “Raging Bull” actor (the two actors played lovers in Dan Mazer’s gross-out comedy), Plaza clarified that any way De Niro could have been offended by her behavior would have been due to her staying committed to her character.
“I didn’t really have a relationship with him off camera because he’s him,” Plaza said when asked about how well she and De Niro knew each other. “I didn’t have time to get to know him,...

Aubrey Plaza isn’t a comedy star. Or an action star. Or a sarcastic sidekick. She’s simply, and forever will be, an artistic chameleon. But that’s redundant, isn’t it?
The actress spoke with “Emily the Criminal” co-star Theo Rossi during a SAG-AFTRA Foundation screening and Q&a moderated by IndieWire’s Eric Kohn. Plaza, who has made headlines for drawing comparisons to “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” for her role in the credit card scam drama, addressed being typecast early in her career, especially coming off of hit sitcom “Parks and Recreation.” (Watch the panel in full below.)
“I don’t mind being typecast because I feel like I was so lucky to be on ‘Parks and Recreation,’ and that was one of my first really big jobs, and I am so heavily associated with that character,” Plaza said of famously playing scene-stealing sarcastic secretary April Ludgate. “I think...

It’s a cruel world out there for the cineastes who want to go online and feel safe and secure while thoughtfully studying Dirty Grandpa-centered film criticism. As it turns out, there is no pop culture search term more likely to result in a malware infection than the name of that cinema classic’s star, Robert De Niro.
