Marruá is not a family name. Maria Marruá and later her daughter Juma, are known by such "surname" in reference to the characters being aloof, wild, lonely, with few friends and do not like contact with other people, especially men. Marruás are wild oxen, free-born in the Pantanal and difficult to capture and domesticate. This also refers to their mythical shape-shifting into jaguars when angry.
Gabriel Sater portrays the role of Trindade, originated by his father Almir Sater in Planet of the Pantanal (1990).
Alanis Guillen learned to ride a horse and practiced kung fu to prepare for her main role of Juma. Such preparation also included meals based on meat and roots.
Rafael Cardoso was first cast as Jove, but was replaced by Jesuíta Barbosa as producers wanted the character to resemble his original iteration more closely.
Producers wanted actors from the original Planet of the Pantanal (1990) in this remake as to pay homage.
