Like many sitcoms, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" follows a group of friends initially grouped by their workplace (and family ties) who have become bound by their long history of antics with one another. Unlike most sitcoms, the gang on "Always Sunny" really does not act like they care about one another pretty much at all. Sure, characters on shows like "Seinfeld" and "How I Met Your Mother" are frequently snarky with one another, but they generally have one another's backs when things get tough. In the original pilot for "Sunny" that eventually became the season 1 episode "Charlie Has Cancer," Dennis (Glenn Howerton) visits his friend Charlie (Charlie Day) to borrow a basketball, only for Charlie to tell him that he has cancer, which makes Dennis do everything he can to leave without having to really help Charlie or deal with his discomfort in any way. It's brutal and brutally...

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is an irreverent comedy full of despicable characters. So when Mac came out after years of allusions to his homosexuality, audiences weren't sure what that would mean for the beloved character. Would this mean that Mac, who was always a gun-toting Christian, would transform into a bleeding-heart liberal overnight? Or, worse, would he become a caricature of queerness and epitomize its stereotypes? Thankfully, the "Sunny" creators found a happy medium for their treatment of Mac's sexuality, which was crystallized in his elaborate dance number in "Mac Finds His Pride."
Series co-creator and star Rob McElhenney explained his character's delicate coming out to Entertainment Weekly in 2019:
"I think making sure that we are very careful to not change the fact that Mac is an abhorrent person [...] That is true inclusion, as opposed to saying he's come out and now all of a sudden he's this great guy.

Of the many secondary characters in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," none has had quite as much interaction with the gang as Matthew "Rickety Cricket" Mara. The character first appeared in the season 2 episode "The Gang Exploits a Miracle," where fans got to know him as a former high school classmate of the younger members of the gang who had an intense infatuation with Dee (Kaitlin Olson). Called "Rickety Cricket" because he wore leg braces throughout high school, he had gone on to become a priest, but his reunion with the gang led him on a downward spiral that would lead to him becoming a drug-abusing pimp with burn-related facial scarring who lives under a bridge. Over the years, he's debased himself in just about every way, making "Sunny" fans double over with laughter in the process.

The 16 seasons and counting of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" are filled to the brim with unforgettable moments, from a musical proposal to Frank bursting out of a couch. However, it seems the one thing the internet will truly never let die is Charlie's Pepe Silvia monologue in the season 4 episode "Sweet Dee Has a Heart Attack."
In this misadventure, Charlie and Mac get office jobs working in a mailroom in order to secure health insurance. When Charlie attempts to deliver mail to Pepe Silvia, an employee who seemingly does not exist, the mystery drives him to pin up the mail on a corkboard connected by string, much like a detective solving a murder case. When Mac returns to the mail room from impersonating another employee upstairs, he finds Charlie embroiled in this conspiracy, chainsmoking cigarettes and ranting about Pepe Silvia in a now-famous monologue that has since been memed millions of times over.

"Charlie Work" is easily one of the most memorable episodes in the 16 seasons and counting of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." Some of the episodes are best remembered for their off-color jokes, like "The Gang Makes Lethal Weapon 6," but other times, it's the scope of the episode that garners attention, like the ambitious musical episode "The Nightman Cometh," or the unforgettable holiday special "A Very Sunny Christmas." Even so, perhaps the most impressive technical feat of all is the one-shot wonder that is "Charlie Work."
The season 10 episode follows Paddy's Pub's resident ghoul fan Charlie Kelly as he tries to pass the bar's health inspection while the other members of the gang get up to no good, wrapped up in a scheme involving steaks, airline miles, and live chickens. The episode presented lots of technical challenges at every turn, the first of which was writing an episode that unfolds in...

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" has managed to stay on the air longer than any other live-action sitcom in television history because it constantly one-ups itself. Every episode is more extreme than the one before. The show has aired for 16 seasons and counting, yet it has never stopped taking big swings.
By season 7, the series creators wanted to continue to challenge themselves and make themselves laugh. So they came up with an outlandish and offensive premise — a child's beauty pageant that takes place in a bar. It might sound like one of the most inappropriate things to ever air on television, but of course, that's their bread and butter on "Sunny." However, series creator Glenn Howerton insists that the point of the show is not to push boundaries.
"The way the show is talked about, it's as if that's our goal, or that our goal is to push the boundaries of what's decent or whatever,...

A light comedy with a touch of social commentary and a stellar cast, “Familyhood” is a work by the young South Korean director Kim Tae-gon who has a background in indie and horror films. It was very well received in South Korea and it probably marked a turning point in his career. In fact, his latest work “Project Silence”, starring the late Lee Sun-Kyun, premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2023 and is one of the most anticipated films of 2024.
The story focuses on the character of Go Joo-yeon (Kim Hye-soo), a beautiful and rich actress/diva who is reaching what in show business is considered a critical age, close to the career “sunset”, i.e. her forties. Go continues to work, having not yet faced any blatant failure to secure parts in films and advertisings; however, her fame as an actress is gradually being concealed by her reputation as a...

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is a somewhat unique comedy series in that the central cast and creative team have known one another for years, working together long before FX picked up their homemade pilot and they had a cable TV show together. That means that some of their inside jokes and gags go back decades, and in at least one instance, they ended up plagiarizing themselves by reusing a gag from one of their homemade shorts to create a major character for "Always Sunny." Then again, maybe plagiarism is too strong a word, considering the fact that the short wasn't really shown to the masses prior to "Sunny" blowing up and it's a very basic character premise, but they definitely still copied themselves.

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" isn't really the kind of series known for making dreams come true, but in 2019, series' creator Rob McElhenney got to make his character Mac's dream come true... in the real world! The series has crossed into the real world before when the gang featured in an online video game that they then played in the episode "Charlie Rules the World," but things got taken up a notch when McElhenney was invited to help Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley throw the ceremonial first pitch at Utley's final Phillies game. The two reunited in the season 16 episode "The Gang Gets Cursed," and things didn't go as well for Mac in the "Sunny" universe as they did in the real one.

The gang from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" are all Philadelphia natives who have spent their entire lives residing in the City of Brotherly Love, but only one of the actors is actually from Philly. Charlie Day (Charlie) grew up in Rhode Island, Kaitlin Olson (Dee) is from Oregon, Danny DeVito (Frank) is from New Jersey, and Glenn Howerton (Dennis) is from an Air Force family who traveled all over but eventually settled in Alabama. That leaves only Rob McElhenney (Mac), the series creator, who was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. That's right, McElhenney is the only true Philly person, and much of the Philadelphia-related humor comes from his personal experiences.
Over the years, Philadelphia has become a character in the series as much as the gang, Rickety Cricket, Artemis, or any of the other kooky characters that interact with Philly's foul five. Whether the gang is trying out...

Japan’s Visual Industry Promotion Organization (Vipo) and Japan Film Commission have announced details of a new incentives program for offshore film and TV productions shooting in the country.
The new scheme, which is under the jurisdiction of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (Meti), will fund up to one half of the qualifying Japanese spend of international productions, with a JPY1BN ($6.8M) cap.
Eligible productions include “large-scale overseas TV and film projects shot on location in Japan”. The amount of funding per production will be decided by a committee after “consideration of the application content and number of applicants”.
Qualifying spend includes direct expenses related to film production in Japan, including payments to Japanese corporations, individuals, local governments and public organizations. However, some costs are not included in qualifying spend, such as the cost of location scouting in Japan.

We expect the gang from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" to do outrageous things, but the last thing we expect is for them to do something incredibly heartfelt and sincere. And yet, in the incredible season 13 finale, that's exactly what happens. Struggling to find a way to come out to his father, Mac performs an elaborate dance routine that symbolizes his inner turmoil. A lesser comedian might have gone with the obvious punchline, making the dance go horribly wrong and look poorly executed. Instead, this eternally boundary-pushing show managed to subvert audience expectations yet again and deliver a breathtaking number. So how did Rob McElhenney, an actor and series co-creator with zero dance experience, manage to pull off such an impressive feat?
Now, this dance number wasn't the first time McElhenney went to physical extremes on "Sunny," transforming his body in a major way for the sake of a bit.

Actress Saiyami Kher has taken a bold stance, shedding light on the prevailing dearth of support for women-oriented stories in the Indian film industry. Drawing inspiration from the iconic hand pump scene in the mega-hit Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar, Saiyami serves as a powerful call to action.
In the video, Saiyami pays homage to the memorable hand pump scene from Gadar, reimagining it in her own style. With finesse and flair, she imitates the iconic moment, pulling out the pump, only to toss it away in a Ghoomer-style move reminiscent of her latest film Ghoomer.

If 16 seasons of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" have taught us anything, it's that there's nothing Danny DeVito won't do for a laugh. The seasoned sitcom veteran has gone to pretty unbelievable extremes on the series, performing visually striking physical comedy that both disgusts and delights. In perhaps the most memorable moment of the entire series, a sweat-drenched, naked DeVito emerges from a leather couch during an office cocktail party. So, what was it like shooting that unforgettable scene? How did an established actor like DeVito get talked into it? And how many times did he have to pop out of the couch before they got the final take?

“It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” star Kaitlin Olson is responding to the rumour mill with a dash of cheekiness.
Olson, 47, was making rounds around the internet today after rumours broke that she and her husband of 15 years and fellow “Sunny” co-star Rob McElhenney broke up due to cheating allegations.
The long-time couple began dating in the second season of the long-running FX series, which McElhenney created, and is en route to its 16th season this year.
Olson, who plays Deanda Reynolds, took to Twitter on Monday to respond to the allegations, however, the Oregon-born actress didn’t seem to be fazed.

When Rob McElhenney was initially approached by Ubisoft about writing a series set in the video game industry, he was reluctant: He didn’t see a way into that world. But when the company invited him to tour its Montreal headquarters, he figured there was nothing to lose. Once there, he found the inspiration he needed.
“I met a creative director” for one of Ubisoft’s games, McElhenney says — likening the role to that of filmmakers who direct their own screenplays. “He took this very loaded beat, and he took a breath and stared out into the distance and said, ‘I create worlds.’ I excused myself for a second, and I called Charlie [Day, McElhenney’s producing partner] and said, ‘We have to do a show about this because it is amazing.’”
The resulting series, “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet,” is set to launch on Apple TV Plus on Feb. 7. It hails from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia...

What happens when you take two of the minds behind “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and mix it with the tech workplace shenanigans of “Silicon Valley?” Well, you’ll probably get something like the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet.”
And while “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet” doesn’t have the most easy-to-remember title, all you need to know is that the series is basically Mac from ‘Sunny’ trying to make a video game.

Box office hit director Lee Byeong-heon graced this year’s London Korean Film Festival in-person. Since his award-winning film “Twenty,” Lee has a standout filmography in the history of Korean comedy; he has written classics like Scandal Makers and Sunny, and has previously earned the title “Best New Director Award” from Korean Film Actors Association Awards in 2015. Now, with his most recent release — an off-the-rails gangster-cop comedy delivered in a fried chicken pyramid scheme — “Extreme Job” has made its mark on Korean film history. Since its initial January release, “Extreme Job” has now risen to become the highest grossing comedy film ever in the South Korean box office and second most successful film of all time in Korean cinema, only following “Admiral” in theatrical success.
Months later in London, we have had the opportunity to talk to Lee up close. After all the heart-pounding adrenaline “Extreme Job” has to offer,...

“Dee Day” is a pretty strange episode of television, even by “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s” warped standards. There’s a racist play featuring brown face, an involuntary make-out scene between two platonic friends, an ongoing vomit bit, a mystery lurking in the background about a secret plan, and it’s all wrapped in a simple sitcom premise: It’s Dee Day, which means everyone as to do what Dee (Kaitlin Olson) says, no matter how uncomfortable, unwanted, or weird.
Written by Megan Ganz (who last penned one of “Sunny’s” best recent episodes), “Dee Day” utilizes many of the series’ comedy go-to’s: satire, physical humor, shocking behavior, random running gags, and an utter lack of shame from anyone involved. But it’s also really, really weird, and that in itself has been a key element to the FX sitcom’s longevity. Without episodes like “Dee Day,...

Questioning the role of the traditional media seems to be a global phenomenon at the moment, particularly in the countries that comprise the “First World”. The questions raised, from the Us to Japan and in many countries between, usually reveal answers that highlight the press as another pole of the national-level corruption, along with organized crime, the “capital”, the authorities, and politicians. Michihito Fujii presents his take on the issue, through an approach that unfolds much like a Korean thriller.

What starts off seeming to be a take-off on Mani Ratnam's most recent political drama "Chekka Chivantha Vaanam" turns into an engrossing crackling cat-and-mouse drama about a political empire in Maharashtra where siblings squabble for power after the patriarch (Atul Kulkarni) is gunned down.
Straightaway, "City Of Dreams" encircles a cluster of power-hungry characters whose motives are never cogent, let alone comprehensible. There is always a sense of more going on here than meets the eye.
Writers-directors Nagesh Kukunoor, Rohit C. Banawlikar peel off layers after layers of subterfuge to reveal a system of governance that thrives on corruption and deception.
Deftly inter-woven, the plot moves in mysterious ways embracing characters who are at once cunning and naive. The aforementioned wounded politician's daughter Poornima (a very lovely and emotionally empowered Priya Bapat) fights it out with her out-of-control debauched brother Ashish (Siddharth Chandekar).

FX Networks CEO John Landgraf is preparing for a big transition in the coming weeks as Disney completes its purchase of 21st Century Fox.
Landgraf told the crowd at the winter Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena, Calif., on Monday that he expects FX’s mandate to produce distinctive high-end programming stay the same even as the company formally shifts to a new owner.
Landgraf said he’s encouraged by indications that Disney wants FX to increase its output as part of the company’s broader mission to build a global streaming platform. But he has no designs on a massive step-up of content, lest FX lose the human “curatorial” touch that has defined the service under Landgraf’s watch.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is coming back for a record-breaking Season 14 on Fxx.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is going to live well into its teens.
In 2016, Fxx renewed its underdog sitcom for two more seasons including It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 14. Season 14 is almost an incomprehensibly long time for a show that began with three friends, a video camera, and some pocket change. But hey - quality is quality. Season 14 will take It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia into the TV record books. It will tie The Adventures of Ozzie and Hariet for most seasons of a live-action sitcom. Granted, Ozzie and Hariet had many more episodes but that's still quite an achievement.

When asked why he decided to end Season 13 of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” with an unprecedented modern dance sequence, co-creator, star, and dancer Rob McElhenney said a recent experience reframed his perspective on the long-running FX comedy.
“Something sort of extraordinary happened to me when Mac came out [last season],” McElhenney said during a TCA panel earlier this year. “I had a massive response [from] our fans in the Lgbtq community that reached out and told me how moved they were and how important it was to them that they felt represented on a show that they loved. I was not expecting that — I mean, thousands and thousands and thousands of people.”
McElhenny said he didn’t expect a satiric series like “It’s Always Sunny” to connect on such a personal level. “I just assumed that people were laughing along with us,” he said. “I didn’t think we were that kind of show,...

“Seinfeld” fans were in for a treat during this week’s episode of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
The episode put a “Sunny” spin on the traditional sitcom clip show format when the gang was left with nothing to do while their phones updates. So they reminisced about the good ol’ days. Wednesday’s episode flashed to a scene that’s a near-perfect re-creation of an iconic sequence in the “Seinfeld” episode “The Contest.” (That’s the one where they bet on who can go the longest without masturbating).
In the gang’s version of the memory — which Dennis points out is not actually their memory — Dee is Elaine, Frank is George, Dennis and Mac are Jerry, and Charlie is Kramer (who is — 26-year-old spoiler! — the first to cave in their competition).
