Why were Courtney and Chelsea that negative?
maarten_wieringa721 September 2011
I don't understand the first 4 minutes. You see Chelsea and Courtney were talking very negative about Charlie. Why? There relationship with him was good. They supposed to cry or be just a little sad. Bad writing and it doesn't fit at all. The rest of the episode was decent but it was just not the same. Not bad but not that funny at all. The cameo with Dharma and Greg was funny and it was fun to see the postmen who was also from Dharma and Greg. Ashton's character: i don't know. He was boring in this episode. Next episode Rose is coming back to Malibu and she's gonna live together with her ex boyfriend Gordon. I hope it's gonna be a better episode. Damn, i miss Charlie.

A disappointing new start
goshrocks21 September 2011
The episode showed clearly how Alan struggled to save the show, but ultimately the newcomer sadly portrays a bland mix between Jake and Charlie. The show is now Alan-centric, but lacking Sheen to balance and many times outsmart the good old Alan. The show without Charlie Sheen, dropped ultimately to cheap shots, like the size of Kuthcher's manhood. The show wasn't Charlie Sheen, but rather the relationship crafted by years of good acting between Bertha, his brother, little(no more) Jake, and his mother. Ashton will never replace Charlie, and the type of character does not live up to the expectations. A big part of the show was seeing Alan being outsmarted by a simpler yet brighter Sheen. I see no line for this type of jokes anymore.I hope they reconsider Sheen as a part of the show and hopefully get him back...

Every one is gonna miss Charlie Sheen....
fashionable_boy42020 September 2011
Well, now the show is not going to entertain you like before, and everyone knows the reason why. Ashton Kutcher is good but you cannot compare him with Charlie at least for this particular role.

The womanizer is now gone and left us with great memories to cherish.

This episode can not be compared with earlier episodes as the bad-boy, alcoholic and careless Charlie Harper is missing. Jon Cryer is also a great actor but his chemistry with Charlie Sheen was amazing and it might take some time for Ashton to fit in his role and the sitcom.

For this particular episode i can only rate it 5/10. Hope this will get better in future and i wish that Charlie could come back.

Warning: Spoilers
I really was not against Kutcher coming on board... always liked him ever since That 70's Show, and I'm still willing to give it a chance on future episodes, but as far this episode goes, I think it's the only TnH Men episode ever to not get a laugh out of me. This is not Ashton's fault at all, but it is the writer's, who took this episode as their mission to get back at Mr. Sheen, apparently forgetting that they were touching one of TV's favorite characters, hence a little bit of dignity on his farewell would've been much appreciated and more welcomed. -SPOILER- Charlie died when falling off a subway platform... when in the history of TnH Men has Charlie Harper ever been on a subway or bus? He drives a Mercedez and when he was too wasted to drive, he took a taxi (usually driven by a Hindi driver that he considers his friend! haha)... so what's up with that plot hole???!!!!! RIP Mr. Harper, you deserved a better farewell.

This is it for me!
taraangel-4096018 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I liked this show, but Charlie's death was so stupidly written. Without him there is no show. Ashton hasn't ever carried a show successfully, and the only good character left is Jake. It's not worth my time any more. They should have just done a proper ending and stopped filming.

A Great Start... the Show is in Good Hands
fortress11120 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Lighten up, folks. There are a number of things going on here. Remember Jim Morrison of the doors? (The guy who went to Paris and faked his death to prevent being put in prison by the FBI for numerous convictions in Miami)... well... Rose ALONE should be clue enough that Charlie Harper can be raised from the dead if the producers feel the desire to. Rose probably sent a bag of meat back to the USA as Charlie Harper... in yet another bout of ruse with Charlie...

Yes, Ashton made some mistakes. He lacked a little energy and he was not quite crazy enough... he came off more manic depressive and needs to tighten up his lines with other actors... his responses are the funny written ones... so his responses need to almost cut off other actor's lines.

The mother is a veteran of the show... and misplayed her opening lines badly. The entire show would have been hilarious with a little quicker responses and faster reads of the lines. Her playing of her grief of Charlie with bitter heartfelt renditions of the lines and then breaking into a household listing was a total abortion of the intention of the writers. She should have flat read the first lines and then ripped off the house listing after a couple beats of time... but she was not the only one murdering lines in the show.

The written lines could have been hysterical and deserved to be... they were excellent. Any flaws was strictly the fault of the actors. Everyone was a little slower in reading than they should have been. The girlfriends in the funeral should have tightened up their responses much more... you could have driven a truck through some of the holes in the lines as read.

All in all... excellent premise with great promise. A billionaire will allow almost anything to be able to happen in episodic fun. Alan will again be totally dependent upon the whims of Kutcher's character. The mother needs to remember this is a comedy. Angus Jones is again plodding along through his lines as any high school actor would.

Berta is hysterically funny and gives a dead on read. Nice touch with bringing back Dharma and Greg. They should live next door to Rose. Perhaps the Big Bang cast could visit... since it is the same setting for both shows. With Ashton as a website genius and the Big Bang crew as physicists, it seems possible to do some linking in the Lorre show productions.

Death of Charlie
search-628136 August 2017
All the seasons from 1 we have had introduction of characters in a good manner. However, the abrupt start of Charlie's death and continued portrayal of characters such as the mum and the women he dated is really bad. Oh yeah the mother loved his boys and through the movie the comment of i hate you mum was just a comment, i guess the script writer doesn't know that too as seen by her mum hatefully selling his house during the funeral. its a family not people who really hate each other. "try to ease in" as Alan would say, here you guys really gave Ashton a hard time. 3 episodes down and he is doing a bit okay, but should drop that penis scenes this is a comedy not a freak show. i still love the movie and other people are still around am hoping for the best for them and the work ahead.

Charlie is timeless.
kurdo-a-amin20 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I must say that when seeing this episode, i now realize that Charlie Sheen is timeless. Ashton is a very good actor but can not be compared to Charlie and Charlie's role in two and a half men.

The funeral scene is just absurd and pathetic. It should be an emotional scene since hes been on the show for 8 seasons, and the comedy is just not comedy. The way that Alan, his mother and the girls acted is not justifying the time Charlie spent on this show.

There is no comedy left. And the try of comedy is seen pathetic

I will never ever watch another 2 and a half men show again. Thank you Chuck Lorre for that.

Good chapter, Kutcher needs more time, but a nice start.
amonardez20 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I've been watching this show since its beginning, i always liked so much the chemistry between Charlie and Alan. Now thinking about this 9º season, to me seems more like a forced "spin off" from the original series, it was very funny to find Kutcher's character being a mix of the Herb and (a grown) Jake characters. I hope, passing more episodes ahead, that Ashton can loose himself in the same witty development we are used to watch, with the original cast. It was funny too, watching Alan accidentally starting to transform Walden into a younger and luckier Charlie, feeling instantly miserable from being always the guy with bad luck, clearly in his shoulders lays the continuity of the series, taking a more important role.

I'm waiting for the next episode to see what happens with the new arrangement (hope Evelyn tries to hit on Walden, and Rose to start her stalking on the new neighbor, Berta trying to milk the situation as always), I'm very optimistic about the future of the series. Don't mind the opinions of Charlie Sheen's character widows, instead, have a little faith in the production team.

Now c'mon, sure we're all gonna miss Charlie, and whilst I didn't care much for the funeral scene, the rest of it was pretty damn good.

Berta will remain my favourite character.

I wish I could give this a lower rating
masha_boy21 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The writers of this show has reached an all time low, comparing Charlie's death to a balloon filled with meat exploding from the impact with a train.

Also Ashton Kutcher(Walden Schmidt)is the exact opposite of Charlie Harper.

The only characters that were funny was as usual was Allan, and Evelyn but in my opinion killing off everybody's favorite character was a bad move.

I loved this show before this episode which is a big disappointment.

I would rather watch CNN or Fox News than watching this stupid show ever again.

Say goodbye to Charlie and hello to Ashton brilliantly, but I'm still gonna miss Charlie Sheen
lesleyharris3021 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I have to say I had mix feelings about the New Two And A Half Men,but it was actually brilliant, they said goodbye to Charlie Sheen as Charlie Harper brilliantly and hello to Ashton Kutcher as Walden Schmidt brilliantly.Although I do think that this thing between Chuck Lorre and Charlie Harper is childish and more Chuck being a child than Charlie.Three things I wanna point out about Charlies funeral and if you haven't seen it and don't wanna know what happens don't read this as its a total SPOILER.First it was a bit harsh the way it showed Charlie coffin and one of his signature shirt and short next to it,all of the women at the funeral making fun of him and calling him names and talking about the diseases they gave him went a bit too far , clearly they showed that Rose killed him and when Alan spills Charlies ashes.

After the death of Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen),Alan (Jon Cryer),Jske (Angus T. Jones) and the rest of the family are devastated, and it seems that Alan is going to have to live with his mom, until he meets Walden Schmidt (Ashton Kutcher),an internet billionaire with a broken heart who wants to buy the house.

Bad start, hope things change in next episodes
abey-alex26 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Show creator Chuck Lorre is definitely taking revenge on Charlie Sheen with such a lame funeral for his character Charlie Harper. Jon Cryer is a terrific actor but had better on screen chemistry with Sheen than Ashton. The writers should have given Jake a few lines rather than the same old fart n food jokes. And as per Season6 Ep11, Berta inherits Charlie's Malibu beach house as per his will (The Devil's Lube). But what now? Ashton was cool as usual. But everyone who've seen the show for last 8 years might have predicted the ashes were to be spilled somehow. Also Ashton hooking up with the 2 girls from the bar, over Alen was also predictable. And reg. the nude show by Ashton, its just for the ratings! Its sad to see the authors had to write something like that to get more ratings for Two and a Half Men! Even most punchlines were also predictable, like "Good work raising him". I would give 4 starts for Ashton. Chuck Lorre and his writers need to be a little more creative - and funny. I'd prefer re-runs till Season8 rather than watching this season if the trend continues.

Sheen will be back by Christmas
qormi20 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Kutcher's character is a dead end. He plays a mentally challenged, unkempt loser...but it's okay because he's a billionaire and he's well endowed. He is irresistible to women, although he speaks like an escaped mental patient. How many episodes can we endure where he walks around naked and receives compliments on the size of his penis? The actor who plays John Cryer's son makes $250,000 per episode. Why? Last night, his character appeared in two scenes, had no lines, and farted twice while sitting next to his grandmother. He earned $125,000 per fart. The funeral was lame. If the dozens of women present hated Charlie so much, why did they bother to show up? The part where the mother asks for a little compassion and then proceeds to try to sell his house all in the same breath was not funny. The only funny moment in the episode was the Dharma and Greg routine. The closed coffin at the funeral provides a safety valve. Sheen will be back in the role by Christmas, as the ratings will have plunged by then.

not bad at all
mjmclear22 September 2011
i don't know why everyone is being so negative about this. ya OK the lead actor has been replaced, but it can still be good. i saw it and found it not bad at all. i was surprised how all the other actors were able to carry it off too. and ya Ashton kutcher, - never imagined he could take Charlie's place. but i can see how the story is going and it may be quite a fun season. there was nothing bad about the episode , just that Charlie was missing. but their were good comic moments. i have seen shows way worse. this one was not exceptionally good but not bad either. i especially loved that all other characters are there. and the fact that Ashton is totally opposite of Charlie in many aspects. they have potential to churn out a good season, i hope they don't mess it up.

Two and a Half Men 2.0
studioAT23 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
With Charlie Sheen being sacked and the show doing too well in the ratings to be axed this episode marked the start of what is essentially Two and a Half Men 2.0. It would look the same from this point, and yet be quite different.

Ashton Kutcher has natural comic ability and works well with Jon Cryer from the start. Apart from the always annoying Holland Taylor character everyone else plays a lesser role.

I haven't seen a lot of the '2.0' episodes, but using this as an indication I think the show was on solid ground with Kutcher, but the shadow of Sheen would always loom over the show.

Refreshing new look.. but will it sustain?
riteshshergill23 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I had decided to keep an open mind before watching the first episode of season 9. I got through it and I must say that I am not disappointed. But I am skeptical.. Charlie Sheen was dry and sarcastic as hell.. compared to his brand of cynicism, I don't think Walden could keep up.. he(Walden) cut a sorry figure in the first episode.. and I could not understand the need for him to be naked for half the duration of that episode.. nonetheless, I wan't disappointed.. and I do have one suggestion.. ever consider an episode where there is a role reversal and Alan starts acting like Charlie(albeit with hilarious consequences).. I think that it can be done now that Charlie is out of the picture..

Missed opportunity
pizelli-7595710 May 2021
They should have given Alan the house and a ton of cash. It could have been very entertaining to see him deal with all that. The only thing I really disliked about the post-Sheen seasons was the character and/or acting ability of Ashton. The Walden character is not interesting, even with a billion dollars.

miro-621 September 2011
I loved Charlie Sheen but I like Kutcher as well. Beside the bad taste of that stupid funeral and the stupid firing of Sheen for out of the work reasons, the show has changed and it will be another show. Kutcher is nice and enough good but he can't replace Sheen in this show. Maybe this show will be anyway watchable but it is another show. Alan does not work anymore and he is the real new embarrassing problem. His acting is slow and no fake, off scene, laughing can save him. More, the half man is no more half, at least 4/5 so let's change the title too. Like "The Billionaire & the Loser" Season 1. ah ah! (I put my fake laughs too).

The problem is that now is somehow funny when Ashton is on the scene (by the way less than Sheen) but the main character now is Alan and, unbelievable, he is no more funny. Before I was thinking that John Cryer is a great actor but today I understood that he is very weak and without Sheen he is lost. Watching Charlie's house without Charlie is sad and the show, which was one of the best and funniest ever, now is a normal average comedy which needs a lot of fake, off scene, recorded laughs to stand up. This show is dead and it would be right to change the house and the title, trying to build a new show and not this hybrid mess. The 1st episode is supported by a special guest John Stamos and showing Kutcher naked but in the future? Lorre! You have to accept that you made a big mistake firing Sheen and you killed your own show for close mind reasons. I always thought you are a genius but obviously even geniuses can make enormous mistakes.More I have read a lots of comments anywhere and 90% of people want Sheen back. Sheen is the real winner again and even if he seems to me ridicule when he screams that he is a WINNER, I have to accept that he is right. Before 2&HM I did not like C.S. but he made this comedy great and I changed mind. I don't care for his style of private life and Lorre surprised me when he took out the mask showing that he is a bigot, close mind person. I was his fun, also for Big Bang Theory, but that show too is going down and I understand that he is funny only because Jim Parsons (Sheldon) is great. Let's fire him too and kill also this other show. Ah ah (going on putting fake laughs).

Money Grab By Shows Producers
DKosty1231 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The real spoiler here is Charlie is gone. The bad news is that Ashton Kutcher is here and can't possibly be anything on this series. The good news is Walden is rich, which means he is just like the shows producers who are trying to prove they can continue to milk this and make money selling garbage. Looking at this now, I realize that recycle like this hurts the environment, of sit coms.

The script writers will have to recycle Charlie jokes to keep this going. Their best bet would be to have Berta clean out Waldens bank account and take over the beach house she has been employed at all this time. After all, putting up with Walden moving in she deserves it.

So the only question here is how long before they start milking the dead Charlie to keep this going? After all copyright claimers are milking Mozart and Beethoven to make money on You Tube. So why should Charlies character be sacred? You Tube never cracks down on this crap, and hey there's plenty of charlie to watch on you tube. My advice, whenever Walden comes on, go find Chralie on You Tube.

No one could compensate for Charlies' outbursts. Ashton Kutcher was a poor choice as a replacement since the show would fall miserably and Kutcher is not much of an actor. They should have worked it out with Charlie instead of making him "dead"

So disrespectful!!!
maestro611412 September 2021
The 8th season was a serious downfall about Charlie's character, full of unjustified and uncharacteristic Charlie's decisions. They made a pathetic man from a legend. And this first episode of 9th season was so disrespectful to Charlie's character that put tears in my eyes. So many bad jokes I've not heard even from stupid child. Shameful and sad!!! NO reason to do so.

Jon Cryer has always been the show.
jimmymise20 September 2011
The clouds have parted and we now see that Jon Cryer has always been the center of Two and a Half Men. Sure Charlie Sheen had more of the cheap jokes and one-liners. But substitute any other Hollywood star and the easy one-liners will still be funny. I have never really liked Ashton Kutcher but the incredible writers and director have made sure he fits in. Jake, Berta, Judith, and Mom are all peripheral to the predicaments of Alan. Thankfully CBS did not try to create another Charlie Harper. Eight seasons of Charlie was enough. With this fresh start, Two and a Half Men will probably last another eight seasons. Bravo CBS.
