Born 45 years ago in Zaporozhye, Ukraine, when it was still a part of the Soviet Union, Andrey Ivchenko fell in love with the America he saw in movies and wanted to move to the U.S. and become an actor. “Nice cars, palm trees, beaches, American Dream,” he recalls in his still thick accent.
But it was too hard to get into the U.S., so in 2005 — after a mandatory stint in the Soviet military and earning a degree in kinesiology — Ivchenko moved to Toronto instead.
He honed his craft, got small roles in TV series like Nikita (Tupelov Guard #1), The Firm (Russian Soldier #2) and Falling Skies (Armed Fighter), and happily became a Canadian citizen.

I generally pay as much attention to the broadcast network development season as I do to the baseball draft. Though the shows that actually survive development are much closer to airing chronologically than most baseball draftees are to the majors, the winnowing process is just as brutal in both cases. On average, a given network will hear 3-400 pitches a year, order scripts for 60-70 of them, make 8-12 pilots and put roughly between a half dozen and a dozen of them on the air. So I’ve usually found development not worth worrying about until shows are actually ordered to series and scheduled. That said, it’s been tough to ignore this fall’s development season, where it seems like every day for the past few weeks, my Twitter feed has blown up a few times an afternoon with news of a familiar movie or TV property being adapted...

Netflix has released a batch of photos for the upcoming second season of "House of Cards." There are no captions or episode descriptions, so details are scarce, but we do get our first look at some Season 2 newcomers: Molly Parker and David Clennon.
Parker, a alum of "Deadwood" and "The Firm," can be seen above sitting at a table with Clennon ("Ghost Whisperer," "Once and Again"). We don't even yet know their character names yet, but things look pretty intense.
Based on some of the other pictures here -- Parker perhaps snooping on someone else's computer, and Parker coming face-to-face with Kevin Spacey's Frank Underwood -- we would guess that Parker and Clennon are on opposite sides of Frank and his wife Claire (Robin Wright).

An new pilot in development over at A&E may just echo the presence of Fox “Spooky” Mulder on the small screen. The pilot is called Occult and NCIS alumnus Sarah Jane Morris will spirit up a performance.
We’ve seen shows promise to offer some of that magic the X-Files delivered in its prime before, but the pilot for Occult has a leg up on such hopefuls. It was written by X-Files scribe James Wong.
That tidbit was the first item to get my attention. Ready for the second? The pilot will star Josh Lucas. Can I get a woot, woot? I’m a Lucas fan. How can you not like those soulful blue eyes. The actor was the best thing about the short lived series modeled after The Firm.

What’s better than a second season of House of Cards on Netflix? New cast members of course! The fierce political drama is coming back and the deck will be stacked with new actors, to include Mad Men actor, Sam Page and Deadwood lady, Molly Parker.

A&E is jumping head first into the burgeoning horror TV industry with next week’s Bates Motel, and it apparently likes what it’s seen so far. Next up? Michael Bay’s Occult, which has nabbed its two leads: The Firm and Hulk’s Josh Lucas and John Carter’s Lynn Collins.

The Occult Crime Task Force (aka “O.C.T”) is gearing up at A&E, after the network cast its two main leads. Josh Lucas and Lynn Collins, two actors you usually find on the big screen, will be giving the small screen a try in the show, since titled simply “Occult”. Essentially a take on Fox’s long-lasting “X-Files”, the new cable show would find Lucas playing Mulder — er, I mean, an FBI agent name Dolan who “returns from administrative leave after going off the deep end while investigating his wife’s disappearance.” This wouldn’t be Lucas’ first foray into TV. Title: The Possession Director: Ole Bornedal (‘The Substitute’) Starring: Jeffrey Dean Morgan (‘Watchmen,’ TV’s ‘Supernatural’), Kyra Sedgwick (TV’s ‘The Closer’), Natasha Calis (TV’s ‘The Firm’) and Madison Davenport (TV’s ‘Shameless’) One of the most relentlessly persistent fears among people is the religious belief that their bodies can be possessed by an evil spirit determined to take over their lives to carry out its own evil plan. When a seemingly ordinary box has the power to unleash the powerful entity, innocent people’s lives are automatically put in danger. Such a threat was discovered in 2004 by Los Angeles Times journalist Leslie Gornstein, when she found what was described as an authentic [ Read More ]...

I've already discussed the "true" story that inspired the upcoming supernatural thriller The Possession and now Lionsgate has released a featurette talking to Jewish mysticism experts and director Ole Bornedal about the idea of possession. If you're interested in the story that inspired the film click here, but for the short of it, the film centers on a family that purchases an antique wooden box at a yard sale only to find it contained a demon spirit that eventually possesses the young girl in the family. The film stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen), Kyra Sedgwick ("The Closer"), Natasha Calis ("The Firm") and Matisyahu. I don't know if The Possession will actually be any good. Most often films like this turn out to be rather disappointing, not trying hard enough to convince us any of this could actually happen and relying more on jump scares. It's one thing to creep us...

Some of the best news coming out of Syfy lately is the fact that Haven is returning for its third season on September 21, less than a month away. There is an atmosphere on the show, set in a small seaside town in Maine (no surprise, as it’s based on a novella by Stephen King), that combines with the exceptional cast chemistry and fantastically twisty plots to make it easily my favorite show on Syfy. You could say it has – sorry – an Edge.
Because it does. WWE superstar Edge (Adam Copeland) joined the show for a few guest appearances last season as Dwight, a “cleaner” of the aftermath of Troubled incidents, and now we hear from Syfy that he’ll be back for Season 3. It would be easy to suspect that this is stunt casting, but honestly, he’s a natural. The show has consistently excellent writing, but the actors still need to bring it,...

The first film clip of the Sam Raimi produced horror film The Possession has been released, and it might make you gag. The film was directed by by Ole Bornedal (Nightwatch) and is based on a true story about a haunted antique wooden box. It stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen), Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer), Natasha Calis (The Firm), and Matisyahu (The Hasidic Reggae Superstar).
Even though the movie looks good, and I'm excited to see it, the true story that it's based on sounds more terrifying than what I'm seeing from the film. If you want more information on the true story, you can read all about it in an article that was published in the L.A. Times.
Here's the Synopsis for the film:

Lionsgate has sent us over some creepy new photo's from the Sam Raimi-produced horror film The Possession. This is a horror film that I'm looking forward to! It's based on a true story about a haunted antique wooden box. No joke, the story behind this dibbuk box is pretty terrifying, and it looks like it will make for a great movie.

We have the conversation below for ya:
Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Interview:
This seems to be largely character driven film.
It is. The term “horror genre” scared the crap out of me at first but it was really interesting stepping into that world. But then I read the script and talked with Ole [Bornedal; director] and we kind of got a handle on it. It’s a film about people with some horribly scary things happening. The story itself drew me in. But it’s scary as hell. It’s The Exorcist and Rosemary’s Baby, it’s not a shaky-cam movie. It’s not found footage ridiculousness. Ole is super talented and...
