Gunter Hanzig (the German filmmaker) is a parody of real-life German filmmaker Werner Herzog.
This episode is a parody of the popular show The Office (2001) and particularly its American counterpart The Office (2005). Parker's alias is named Mindy after writer/actress Mindy Kaling. The credits reveal the receptionist's name to be Ellie after actress Ellie Kemper.
Easter Egg: If you look at the IMDB credits for this episode, Blake Lindsley is listed as "Felicia Van Buren." In the episode, the name plate on her desk reads "Felicia Van Riker." Jonathan Frakes, who played Commander Riker on Star Trek: TNG, is the director of this episode.
When the team gather to plan what to do next, the whiteboard in the room they are using has an apparent company schedule written on it. It is actually a breakdown of camera setup and set use needs for the show. For example, the receptionist is scheduled to file her nails, while below that, workers are to try to use the broken copier, which they wouldn't if they already knew it was broken. Items not typically assigned dedicated blocks of time in an office setting.
There's a very subtle Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) reference when Felicia is confronted with her counterfeiting scheme: "Bartley's not a coach. He's a fool! And you're the fools who follow him!" When Han Solo calls him a fool, Obi-Wan replies, "Who's the bigger fool? The fool or the fool who follows him?"
