Maybe the Best Episode so Far
claudio_carvalho15 November 2013
At the Mystic Falls High School, the seniors prepare pranks for the freshmen as per the tradition. Out of the blue, Klaus and Rebekah show up where Elena, Caroline, Bonnie, Tyler and Matt are and Klaus forces Tyler to feed with his blood and then he kills him. Bonnie and Matt run to find Jeremy to contact a witch from the beyond to learn how she can save Tyler before he dies. Stefan arrives in the spot and Klaus compels him, turning his humanity off and asking him to look after Elena, killing her if she tries to escape. Meanwhile, Katherine shows Damon that she has abducted Jeremy, who is in the trunk of the car, to force him to contact Anna to learn where Mikael the vampire hunter is. After torturing Jeremy, Anna tells the location of his tomb. However Damon receives a message from Bonnie telling what has happened to Elena and he returns to Mystic Falls. Matt decides to drown in the swimming pool to contact Vicky and Bonnie does CPR to revive him. They learn that Elena's blood saves the hybrids, and not her death, and Klaus gives her blood to Tyler. Klaus decides to use Elena to provide blood to his hybrids. Katherine finds Mikael wrapped in chains in a coffin in a crypt.

"The Reckoning" is maybe the best episode so far, with great twists in the story. The sadistic and cruel Klaus changes the behavior of Stefan and Tyler for worse. Damon really has a crush on Elena and now Mystic Falls has the ghosts of Vicky and Anna that seem to have different intentions. My vote is nine.

a enjoyable episode with some minor faults
jackDee-5656527 December 2020
I liked most of the episode with Klaus and Stefan taking the school hostage, it was good until the whole romantic Stefan holding back on feeding on Elena and the whole Damon continuing to act like a spoiled brat got really annoying and for once it did actually bother me, Katherine was annoying as well, for some reason this season katherine is just annoying compared to her steller arc in season 2

Klaus and Stefan Causing Havoc In The School
vivianla25 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Matt is working out and hears a noise. He goes to follow it and is surprised to see his friends in a classroom setting up for seniors' prank day. Caroline wants them to make unforgettable memories this year that they will remember for life. The memories they make now will be remembered later.

Katherine and Damon go by car. Katherine touches his neck seductively and they kiss. Damon flings her away saying he just wanted to test it out but she no longer does it for him. They stop and get out. Damon says it is to stretch their legs and be released from sexual tension.

Stefan and Klaus show up at the school. Klaus gets Tyler to drink his blood and forces Bonnie to find a solution to save hybrids.

Damon finds Klaus at the parking lot and scares Klaus by mentioning Mikael.

Long story short they figure out Elena's blood saves the hybrids. Damon comes back home and carries Elena back to his home. He promises he will never leave her again. Stefan shows up and says Klaus asked him to keep watch until he comes back. Elena is upset Stefan is really gone. He has gone back to his ripper side.

Claire Holt's Rebekah
RavenGlamDVDCollector7 March 2019
I'm not sure Claire Holt is cut out to play the deadly invincible bad girl. I think she peaked with H2O JUST ADD WATER. Time should have stood still and froze that perfection. But here, up till now, it's a lightweight performance as Rebekah, the bratty vampire, who's supposed to have been dead for 90 years, yet comes back instantly adept with teenspeak, has the modern lingo down pat. Doesn't strike me as the type who'd have survived long in the vampire business. Like Harmony in ANGEL, albeit much more ruthless. Oh well, got THE ORIGINALS #1 lined up for me in the near future, stay tuned to hear what I'd say by then.

Kayla Ewell unfortunately hardly looks like the jewel remembered from back in the first episodes. Here she just kind of merges with all the rest. Don't get me wrong. Kayla is Class with a capital K (yeah, baby!) but here she is just like Claire, playing against fond memories, up against toughest rival of all: younger self.

Malese Jow. Wow. Previous episode that heart-rending gut-wrenching scene re being stranded alone having nobody...

I think Candice Accola makes for (sigh) a dream girlfriend (sigh) When Michael Trevino picks her up... (sigh) and she chuckles the way that only Candice Accola can chuckle... Aw gee, that is so sweet... (sigh) Not good for The Raven to dwell on this too much...

Full marks again to Nina Dobrev. Those eyes... Okay, enough said there as well.

Golden Raspberry to Paul Wesley. Has a look the ladies love, okay. Has a plum part, central character. Never comes close to what Stefan should have been, would have been...

So far, not so good...
m-478265 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what I used to see in season 3. Maybe it gets better later. But so far, I am very disappointed. The hybrid nonsense is dragging the show down. And they make Tyler, Klaus's minion, just as his character was developing? Rebekah is not at all the heroine I grew to like, there. She's annoying. The ghost story is handled poorly, and you wonder why they even bother with this plot. And Damon is just a slime, taking advantage of Stefan's misery, to make his move on Elena. When he's the reason his brother's in this predicament. So far this season is nothing like what the show used to be. It is shallow, and stealing way too much storylines from previous vampire shows. From what I recall, the Mikael storyline is a dead end too. I really think that's when the show lost its sparkle. And now I kind of I to catch up on the spin off series instead. I still hate Klaus, but the way he was portrayed there, and the supporting characters, made this series more tolerable...
