That's a living proof that Supernatural writers are still somehow smart enough to amuse us
zombiehigh1814 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I remember a few days ago when I posted my last episode's comment, I mentioned how much I missed seeing the boys having fun on the job, missed the Rock/Scissor/Paper moments (And Yeah, Dean loses again but at least now with the Paper not his usual Scissors, The guy does learn his lesson after all) and I missed the brotherly teasing ("You gonna look at more anime or are you strictly into Dick now"). I also asked Dean to snap out of his angst because that's life and we are destined to lose people. So I dare to call myself lucky this week, because I got what I wished for and more.

Bobby's death is still aching and Dean is still obsessed with getting revenge on Dick Roman but at least the boys are learning how to deal with the loss while doing their job. With yet another time travel episode, Supernatural writers win the hearts of their fans again with a purely funny amazing episode. The writing is once again fantastic with the good old perfect one liners and brotherly moments. And I liked that even though the boys were separated for most of it, they were working together on the same page.

Nicholas Lea was cool as the one and only Eliot Ness, and his confusion to Dean's childish geeky behaviour was hilarious. Ness's advice to Dean was valuable and made more sense that Frank's "fake it" advice and I hope Dean takes it for once and appreciate his life a little more.

It's always nice to have Kim Rhodes on the show, She brings warmth to a rather tough Sheriff Jody Mills. I loved her motherly interaction with Sam, It's been a very long time since he had this kind of connection with someone especially if it's not a monster or a daemon and we all know how much he needs that touch in his life right now. I hope to see Sheriff Mills again working with the boys, cause I have the sense she is becoming Ellen 2.0 and I like that.

The 1944 era was done neatly and I liked the directing going back and forth between the present and the past. The use of light through the episode was brilliant too. Finally I have to refer how amazing Jensen Ackles looks in every outfit he puts on and though I never mentioned this before, Sam's sideburns are becoming very annoying and his hair is getting too damned long.

The Chicago Way
claudio_carvalho17 February 2013
Sheriff Jody Mill calls Dean and Sam to tell them about strange cases of mummified victims in Canon, Ohio, and the Winchester brothers head to the town to interview a disbelieved witness. The teenager tells that he saw a man wearing overcoat and hat bend over his neighbor in an alley and turning him into a mummy.

Dean and Sam investigate further and discover the stranger's name, Mr. Snider, and where he lives. They stalk him and when Mr. Snider is attacking another victim, Dean jumps over him and they vanish in a red light.

Dean is sent back to 1944 and is arrested by the police, but Eliot Ness releases and teams-up with Dean to chase Mr. Snider, who is actually Chronus, the Time God. Meanwhile Sam and Jody are trying to find a means to bring Dean back to 2012.

"Time after Time" is one of the best episodes of Supernatural and maybe the best in this Seventh Season. The plot entwines adventures with humor, with great lines. Dean worshiping Eliot Ness, telling that he watched fifty times "The Untouchables" by Brian De Palma and interrogating the crook in the Chicago way is among the wittiest lines in this series. It would be good if the beautiful Sheriff Jody Mill teams-up with Dean and Sam, after the loss of Bobby. My vote is nine.

Great Show
jakre1014 January 2012
I loved this episode. The 40s genre was great and Dean was perfect for it. Everything was so realistic. I have been a fan of Jason Dohring's since his days as Joseph on Moonlight which should still be on the air. He was great in this role. To be perfectly honest I kept looking at him and said I know that guy I just can't place him. Sure enough it finally came to me. I know he died off in this episode but it would be really great if the writers (who by the way or some of the best in the world) could somehow bring him back. I'm sure with their creative minds they can think of something. And, hooray for the People's Choice awards. Great job and well deserved

Marvelous episode
nfhmagg1 August 2012
Just finished viewing the encore presentation of this episode. I also love the 40's and Jensen was perfect as 1944 Dean. He looked amazing in the 1944 suit and the hat. Loved the dynamics between Dean and Eliot Ness. The writers have a wonderful way of using historical characters in Supernatural-makes history much more interesting. Jensen's acting ability consistently amazes me. He can be funny, serious, heart broken, cocky, loving and sarcastic, all in 1 episode. And always the love the 2 brothers have for each other..we all wish we had someone who loved us that much. And I also have really liked Jason Dohring since "Moonlight" (which I agree should still be on). I would live to see the writers bring Kronos (Jason) back in the future. The writers for this show are wonderful and come up with such interesting "monsters" and how to defeat them. This episode deserves a 10 out of 10.

Best use of time travel on the show
CubsandCulture23 April 2020
This is one of the few times that the show used time travel to a good effect. It is lovely to have a 40's crime story-isque episode and Sgriccia leans into the noir aspects. The script contains a couple of choice barbs with Dean being a fish out of water. But best of all Chronos is a better than average monster both because of the actor that plays him and that his motivations are more humane and understandable than they usually are. Oh and the music is pretty good too.

Supernatural keeps reinventing itself!
mm-3917 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Supernatural keeps reinventing itself! The same monster hunt but with a new twist! Dean time travels to the 1940's and teams up with Elliot Ness to battle with a time travelling monster. The viewer sees humour with the change in attitudes where Dean is viewed as a farmer because of his clothes. Dean is told to man up when he does not match up to the attitudes of the 1940's. Dean uses Back To The Future time travel science fiction to solve the story's problem with the always logical brother Sam. We see the return of the lady sheriff that assists Sam in this episode. I wonder if she will be in any more. Is she the new Ellen/Jo team? Not a bad episode! I give Time After Time After Time a seven out of ten.
