Whistle Blower
stevendbeard8 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I saw Blow Up My Life, starring Jason Selvig-The Supporters, Catfight; Kara Young-Master, The Punisher_tv; Ben Horner-The Blacklist_tv, Luke Cage_tv and Reema Sampat-Orange is the New Black_tv, Jessica Jones_tv.

This is the story of a whistle blower and the consequences of his actions. Jason is a computer code programer at a pharmaceutical company that developed a new opioid vape. After partying and celebrating his success, Jason is fired from his job. Jason gets with his cousin Kara-a computer whiz-and after some investigation, discover that there is a flaw in his programing and he brings it to the companies attention. Ben is the CEO and tries to cover things up because they are about to release the vape to the public and is thinking only of the financial gains. Jason then turns to his ex_girlfriend Reema-who happens to be a reporter-to go public with his story and that's when the conspiracy turns deadly. A Hitman is unleashed and people start dying. The story is not bad but they didn't know how to end it. You learn what happens to some people but not everyone. It just ended. FYI: It's billed as a comedy/thriller but it doesn't have that much comedy.

It's not rated-NR-but it contains violence, language and drug use and has a running time of 1 hour & 20 minutes.

It's not one that I would buy on DVD but it would be alright to stream.

Good Suspenseful Movie
mystichealer23 November 2022
I really enjoyed seeing this suspenseful movie at the Austin Film Festival. It is a non stop roller coaster ride till the very end. It is very relatable to the opiate crisis we have today. The characters and the story are an added plus to this film. It also makes me wonder what the pharmaceutical companies have in mind with this opiate crisis we have today. In this movie, all the research the main character does into what the pharmaceutical companies are doing is making it worse for him especially with this woman he calls his cousin comes into the story. This is what builds the suspense and is very engaging to the audience.

a true rollercoaster - highly recommend!

A fantastic time! This is the most fun, engaging, thoughtful movie i've seen in a while. The pacing is perfect, i was completely invested in the characters and the story.

The characters - and their quirks, relationships, weaknesses - are just so well developed. I was constantly curious about their choices and next moves, laughed out loud at their jokes, and gasped as their paths turned.

Finally, i really appreciated the setting of the film. The classic new england scenes (fall foliage, leafy suburbs, office parks) felt so relatable, like this could unfold in anyone's backyard.

I had such a fun time watching this one, congrats on a cool, silly, smart film.

The best combo of comedy and thrills

I love the sense of humor in this film - it's a thriller that doesn't take itself too seriously and truly keeps you on the edge of your seat with suspense while also poking fun at itself and cracking you up. It's such a creative take on your typical heist with an unusual villain (a pharmaceutical company) but so clever and spot on for 2023. It's so refreshing to see a film with an anti-corporate, anti-capitalist lens.

I also thought the acting was superb and am impressed this is the filmmakers' first feature-length effort. Looking forward to seeing what these guys do next. Highly recommend checking it out.
