Ever since three of its key members died or retired in Avengers: Endgame, MCU fans have all had the same question: who even are the Avengers anymore? MCU chief Kevin Feige has been pretty tight-lipped about when we’ll see the next lineup or who’s in consideration, but a mainstay of the comic book team will be making his way to live-action soon. Wonder Man is currently in production for Disney+, a show about ionic-powered superhero Simon Williams.
Largely unknown to non-comics readers, Wonder Man is one of Marvel’s most interesting characters; a guy with a convoluted history, even by superhero standards. There are many different types of stories that creators can tell with Wondie, but the recent news that Ben Kingsley will be reprising his role as Trevor Slattery gives us a pretty good idea about the type of show Wonder Man seeks to be.

Hollywood star Ben Kingsley is poised to reprise the role of Trevor Slattery in the upcoming ‘Wonder Man’ series from Marvel Studios at Disney+. The show was first revealed to be in the works back in June. It will focus on the Marvel character Simon Williams, also known as Wonder Man, reports Variety.

Ben Kingsley‘s name is one that immediately connotes respect. He is easily one of the most decorated actors of his generation, which makes news of his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe one that fans are sure to welcome with open arms. The Academy Award winner is set to reprise his MCU role of Trevor Slattery in the new Disney+ series Wonder Man, Variety reports. The news also lends credence to speculations that the mysterious new series will be a satire of Hollywood, as in the original comic series, the character Wonder Man was both a stunt man and an actor, and Trevor Slattery is known to be a failed actor. Kingsley has played the hapless Trevor since 2013’s Iron Man 3, reprising the role in the short film All Hail the King and again in the feature Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Back in June of 2022, we learned that a new live-action series about Marvel's Wonder Man was in development over at Disney+. "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" director Destin Daniel Cretton is set to executive produce and possibly direct "an episode or more," with Andrew Guest as head writer.
The upcoming Wonder Man series has another connection to "Shang-Chi" though, in the form of Ben Kingsley, according to Variety. He'll reprise the role of Trevor Slattery, who appeared in "Shang-Chi." Slattery is a failed actor who posed as the terrorist The Mandarin in "Iron Man 3," though he is unmasked at the end. In the Marvel short "All Hail the King," he's rescued from prison by a minion of the real Mandarin, who we later learn is Shang-Chi's father Xu Wenwu. In "Shang-Chi," Slattery helps the heroes escape from Wenwu, and gets them to Ta-Loh, with the help...

Love him or hate him, Ben Kingsley‘s Trevor Slattery is ready for another close-up! The divisive character who made his MCU debut in 2013’s Iron Man 3 is supposedly getting more screen time thanks to Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man series. While Kingsley’s involvement has yet to be confirmed by Marvel, Variety says they have it on good authority that it’s a done deal.
Wonder Man is one of Marvel‘s oldest characters, dating back to 1964 in the pages of Avengers #9. He began his comic book career as a villain but got reintroduced as a hero in the late 1970s. Wonder Man’s civilian name is Simon Williams, and he was a founding member of the Los Angeles-based West Coast Avengers. As an actor and stuntman, Williams’ look included wearing a turtleneck, a red jacket, and sunglasses. Wonder Man strongly relates to Marvel characters Vision and Wanda/Scarlet Witch.

One of the things fans enjoy most about the MCU is just how interconnected everything is. Over the past 15-ish years, Marvel Studios has created a universe that spans more than two dozen films and multiple TV series, allowing for some characters to venture through multiple different franchises. Oddly enough, one of those characters is Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery, who started as a pseudo-villain in “Iron Man 3” and reappeared in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” as comedic relief.
