Doesn't quite hit the bullseye

'Phineas and Ferb' was so good in helping me through my tough periods during its run, which were many. Still do get a lot of pleasure out of watching re-runs of what was, when airing, one of the few shows on the Disney Channel regularly worth bothering with. Admittedly the later episodes are not quite on the same level as the more creative earlier seasons, but 'Phineas and Ferb' at its weakest still managed generally to be better than a lot of animated shows recently at their best.

Both "Perry the Actorpus" and "Bullseye" are well worth watching, though for me one is much better than the other. On top of having the more appealing and more inspired premise, "Perry the Actorpus" is a sheer delight for any fans of Perry (like me, he has always been one of my favourite characters) and is funnier and more inventive. "Bullseye" is to me a good deal less consistent but is well worth watching and entertaining, plus it does a great job with one character particularly.

When it comes to the individual elements, so much works. The animation is bright and colourful, with such vibrant colours that literally pop out at you and beautifully detailed backgrounds. The music is in the style that is not usually my style of choice when listening to music, but it is very catchy and pleasant to listen to. The theme song is irresistible with a melody that sticks in the head for days without being an earworm and with very quotable lyrics.

The writing is very funny and smart in "Perry the Actorpus", never childish or over complicated, and Doofenschmirtz's writing is riotous. It is less consistent in "Bullseye", shining with Lawrence and Doofenschmirtz but the writing for Candace feels tired and seen it all before somehow. Loved the storytelling in "Perry the Actorpus", especially with Perry, with only Candace's role lacking freshness.

Regarding "Bullseye", the character writing for Lawrence is the most note-worthy aspect and it was both entertaining and heart-warming, also not feeling like it was going round in circles. Phineas and Ferb's subplot is rather forgettable though and Candace's role could have had more variety.

Character writing is on the most part fine, especially for Perry (adorable, resourceful and funny) and Lawrence. The voice acting is without issues.

In summary, one great episode and one slightly above average. 7/10.
