A new film industry superclass is emerging in Spain: movies powered or co-backed by its streaming giants.
Perhaps the biggest example, Netflix Spain’s Andes flight disaster “Society of the Snow,” scored two Academy Award nominations last month.
Now, in the run-up to Berlin, London-based Film Constellation has acquired most world sales rights to “The Captive,” from Oscar winner Alejandro Amenábar (“The Sea Inside”) and Mod Producciones, a $15 million period adventure epic on the literary makings of “Quixote”author Miguel de Cervantes, held to ransom in a Moorish corsair jail.
Film Factory Ent. will take to market Iciar Bollain’s “I Am Nevenka,” about a feminist pioneer in Spain, and an untitled project from “Prison 77’s” Alberto Rodriguez, two fruit of the first movie slate from Movistar Plus+, the biggest Spanish pay TV/SVOD player, announced in January.
Spanish movies overperform on Netflix and Movistar Plus+. As of Feb.

Avril Lavigne may have said see ya later, boy to Tyga, but only briefly, as it appears the pair is back together.
A source tells Et, “Tyga and Avril are back together after their split. They were still hanging out and talking after their breakup and decided to give things another shot.”
Per the source, the two are not jumping back into things and are just keeping their relationship casual for now.
“They’re enjoying their time together,” the source adds.
Rumblings of a reconciliation started after Avril and Tyga were spotted together at a Fourth of July party last week in Las Vegas, just weeks after their split.
Avril, 38, performed with Marshmello at the Encore Beach Club at the Wynn in Sin City July 1 and was seen chatting and hanging out with Tyga, 33, at the venue following her appearance.
Following the sighting, an eyewitness told Et, “Tyga and Avril arrived together at The h.

Mumbai, March 25: Filmmaker and actor Nagesh Kukunoor's latest film "Lakshmi", about human trafficking and child prostitution has garnered critics' appreciation. He says he strives to give the audience a choice in films as repetition can bore the audience.
Kukunoor is known for films as different as "Rockford", "Iqbal", "Dor" and "Mod".
"I have always been of the view that the audience should be given choices. If we make the same kind of films, the audience doesn't grow and they don't get to experience different things," he said here Monday at the Nri of the Year award function.

Nagesh Kukunoor's next venture, Laxmi, is delayed as his producer backed out. The future of the film which deals with human trafficking issue seems to be in lurch due to financial crunch. A source close to the director reveals, "The film was supposed to go on floor in March. The auditions happened long ago and cast is locked. The locations are finalized in Hyderabad. We have been waiting for the last few months for the film to go on floor. Tired of waiting, some of the crew members have left and joined other projects. Though the crew is told that Nagesh's back surgery has led to the delay but everyone knows that the actual reason is something else. The financer has backed out and Nagesh is finding it hard to find another producer for the film." Unfortunately, the director of critically acclaimed films like Dor and Iqbal is struggling...

Playback singers are the unsung heroes of Indian Cinema (no pun intended). This year, for the very first time, Bollyspice would like to congratulate the following 10 male playback singers for their outstanding work in Indian Cinema in 2011.
10. Mika Singh
No one does a mass entertainer quite like Mika Singh and 2011 was no different with crowd-pleasing hits like like ‘Desi Beats’ (Bodyguard), ‘Dhinka Chika’ (Ready), ‘Saj Dhaj Ke’ (Mausam), ‘Pyaar Do’ (Thank You), ‘F.A.L.T.U’ and ‘Hero’ (Desi Boyz).
9. Shankar Mahadevan
Shankar Mahadevan began the year with a brilliant desi/urban mesh-up, ‘Rola Pe Gaya’ (Patiala House) and followed through with thought provoking ‘Der Lagi’ (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara) and ‘Roshni’ (Aarakshan). However, it was the obscure ‘Chand Pal Ke Humsafar’ (Mod) that was the most impressive.

We’ll never know why Imtiaz didn’t cast Ayesha Takia in Jab We Met after she sparkled in Ali’s Socha Na Tha. But there’s Kukunoor who truly values in Takia’s talent.
She brings to this film about that silly thing called, a kind of inner conviction that makes you want to believe in her faith in the oft-abused emotion. When Ayesha speaks her lines they don’t sound written in this under-written film about love that has goes...

Rannvijay Singh has admitted that he found taking on a lead role in his upcoming film Mod harder than being a television host. Singh has previously only had minor movie roles in Toss: A Flip of Destiny, time travel comedy Action Replayy and London Dreams. The TV star told Hindustan Times: "I've mixed emotions about the film right now. There is stress, tension, and a lot of excitement because this is the first time I am playing a lead role. "It was challenging as I had to slip into someone else's shoe while acting, unlike anchoring which requires me to be just myself. After Aashayein, which disappeared rather quickly, Nagesh Kukunoor is back with his latest offering Mod, starring Ayesha Takia (Wanted and Dor) and VJ turned actor Ranvijay Singh.
The music of Mod has been composed by Tapas Relia (Hanuman) while Mir Ali Husain has penned the lyrics. It features the vocal talents of Shreya Ghosal (Bahara – I Hate Luv Storys), Shankar Mahadevan (Desi Girls – Dostana), Vijay Prakash (Fikrana – Blue) and Shivam Pathak (Indian Idol 5).
Mod turns to audiences 14 October 2011.
The album commences begins with Tu Hi Tu, a romantic duet between Shreya and Shivam Pathak. It is a melodious, evenly paced contemporary number sung to perfection by young Shivam, whose vocals are a nice blend between Javed Ali and Mohit Chauhan. He sings with Shreya who is many years his senior but he shows no signs of this. Shreya has previously excelled in numbers such as these and Tu Hi Tu is no exception.
