When Bodhi, Martin Starr 's character, is asked how does he know how to hack a computer, he replies "I spent 5 years working at an internet startup". This is clearly an inside joke referring to his role as Bertram Gilfoyle, a programmer, in the TV series Silicon Valley (2014) .
In the bar shoot-out scene, Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" provides the soundtrack. Though this song also was heard in the movie, "Risky Business", it was the 1984 season premiere of "Miami Vice" on TV that used it in a similar way to accentuate the gang violence on which that show was based. Phil Collins later said the song was written out of anger following his divorce, but has no particular context. The recording of "In the Air Tonight" added a new form of drum reverb (which Collins discovered by accident) that is now used regularly in recordings.
