Better than expected
bolaman11 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
*Some very minor spoilers about the general direction of the plot, nothing directly from the movie*

This is not just a cheesy teen obsession film. It looked that way to me when I saw the thriller, but I was pleasantly surprised. Not only does it bend some of the obsessive stalker plot arc's we know of, but it also has a real human and emotional element to it that made me connect to the characters since they didn't just end up as 2D stock people. There are subtle side-plots about competitiveness, jealousy and the normality of obsessive or strange behavior, which helps flesh everything out and adds nuance. Visually and sound wise the film looks great and is not a budget or amateur production at all, it has the Hollywood polish which is nice.

The plot is still familiar, and it does have several of the typical tropes, but at the same time it adds its own originality and personality to the characters in a way that made it refreshing. All in all entertaining and immersing, and touching even!

A Draggily Different Film
doug_park20012 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
CRUSH is slow-moving, virtually humorless, without a lot of serious tension or big turnabouts, and a bit hard to follow. A lot of people obviously like the twist at the end, but all I can say is that it didn't surprise me that much. Nevertheless, the ending IS far more effective and conclusive than many of them. CRUSH is also realistically filmed and acted and gives a convincing view of the darker aspects of adolescence, capturing its angst, jealousy, loneliness, and love hexagrams very well. The way the girls in the film all kind of look alike is initially confusing but really serves its purpose in the end. All things considered, CRUSH is like a fairly good Lifetime film on PCP.

Decent movie, as good as some feature films.
michaelprickett-253921 January 2020
I really liked this movie. The acting wasn't campy or over the top. It was respectful and didn't contain a lot of vulgarity or foul language, and it had a nice plot twist. It's worth watching.

Not special, but certainly enjoyable and refreshing

Finally a movie that could really surprise me. I really don't know why it has such low ratings. It is an enjoyable movie; no bad acting, horrible writing or predictable storyline, like many other movies do. And Lucas Till is always lovely

too long and too little plot
WatchedAllMovies4 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
It's a who done it type of movie.

Progress is slow in the first half of the movie. This is because the plot is thin and they have to fill up the movie with fluff.

During the climax of the movie, I found myself yelling out instructions to the victim: "grab a weapon", "hit her again", etc.

Why does all thriller or scary movie always have to have some stupid victims? I also don't like seeing "high school kids" played by actors that's ten years older.

It is a low budget movie and is just as bad as some big budget Hollywood scary movies. It is easier to sit through the movie if you find something else to do at the same time, like playing simple computer game.

Stalker thriller like Swimfan or You Get Me, but with a twist

This was better than I had expected. You start out thinking you know exactly what's gonna happen - girl crushes on boy, boy's girlfriend gets hurt, boy gets hurt, etc.... But.....

better than I expected
gufi-044298 May 2019
This movie was a pleasant surprise. I expected some predictable stupid teen drama and even if I can agree some scenes were horribly acted and some moments were pretty cheesy, I dare to say Crush was not that bad of a movie. Of course, as I'm saying this, don't expect the greatest thriller of all time. No, it's nothing like that. But it has a nice atmosphere and a little plot twist. I'm almost sure you won't think about the movie much, it's not something that is going to be remembered but you will probably enjoy that nice "teen" vibe it gives. Like I said, not the best but definitely not the worst.

A Washed up Storyline Revisited That Entertains
claudio_carvalho12 October 2013
The promising high school soccer player Scott (Lucas Till) is injured on the knee in a game and two years after, he is still trying to heel his knee. The teenager Jules (Sarah Bolger) feels unrequited love for him but Scott is concentrated in recovering his physical condition and considers her as a friend. The also teenager Bess (Crystal Reed) that works in the store owned by David (Leigh Whannell) with her mature colleague Andie (Caitriona Balfe) has a crush on Scott. When Scott is stalked by a mysterious person that threatens Jules, he believes that Bess is responsible for the weird situations. Is his assumption correct?

"Crush" is a thriller with a washed up storyline revisited: "Fatal Attraction", "Misery", "May" are example of plots where an obsessed woman stalks a man. However, "Crush" entertains and the plot point with the identity of the stalker really surprises. Another attraction is Sarah Bolger, the lovely eleven year-old girl from Jim Sheridan's "In America" (2002) that has grown-up and become a very beautiful young woman. Caitriona Balfe and Crystal Reed are also very beautiful and promising actresses. Fortunately I did not paid attention to the DVD Cover that spoils the twist, showing the killer's identity. The song that plays in the credits is very nice. In soccer games, it is not allowed by FIFA to display the running time but Scott is playing in an American high school where is might be possible. My vote is six.

Not as bad as you think

Warning: Spoilers
"Crush" actually turned out to be a decent movie. If the acting would of been better, especially by main character Crystal Reed, then this would probably have been a hidden gem. "Crush" has pretty good twist that I didn't see coming. But I thought came a little to early, or the movie took to long to end after it.(For the record I didn't pay much attention to the movie case or movie itself but don't look or pay much attention to it, which is why I put spoiler alert as it gives the movie away pretty much. For the record I don't like giving spoiler alerts just for the fact, WATCH the movie yourself!) This is a low budget "Swim Fan" but with a nice twist, reasoning for the 5 stars out of 10. RENT IT

Positivie surprise
kosmasp28 September 2015
I have to admit, the movie did surprise me more than I thought it would. And it's not only in the title and what it means to one (or more) of the character(s) in the movie. It's also the story and the character arcs themselves. There are things that are obvious and then there are things that aren't.

It's for the viewer to decide, what is obvious and if it actually is that obvious and what that would mean. Sounds complicated? It isn't and the movie actually does more than a decent job telling a story, even if let's say you know where this is going (for whatever reason). There might even be room for a repeat viewing. If you don't expect much ... you'll get a lot

Wasted my time watching this one. Couple unexpected moments but nothing out of the ordinary. Watch at your own risk. Gave a 2 just for the last half hour twist.

There is more to Crush than you might expect -^-8/10-^-
Thrill_KillZ31 March 2013
When I first came to check this film out I did it quickly, skimmed over the names etc. and then just hit play. It wasn't till afterward that I did further investigation that I realized that the director for this film was Malik Bader, the crafty actor/director behind the making of one of the most clever & original films I've seen Street Thief(2006). Crush is, in terms of genre & plot, a completely different animal and Bader handled it masterfully. If you're thinking Crush is the average teen obsession film your wrong.

The new girl in town Bess(Crystal Reed) develops an unhealthy fixation on popular star athlete Scott(Lucas Till). Only Scott's attention is towards his long time friend Jules(Sarah Bolger). As Bess becomes more & more drawn to Scott terribly things begin to happen around him. If you're thinking of this as familiar & predictable I can guarantee you will be dead wrong on that assumption. This film will pull the rug from beneath you with a turn of events you will not see coming. Everything here seems to be in order, the story, acting, soundtrack and camera-work. I was indeed glad I had made the choice to check this out, with no reviews & little votes it was a nice surprise. Recommend it highly -^-8/10-^-

A bit predictable, not that great.
deloudelouvain1 January 2016
After reading the reviews and watching the movie I think Crush is a bit overrated. It's not that big of a deal. Just an above average thriller about stalking. Certainly not a horror movie where it is categorized in. A thriller that didn't get me on the edge of my seat. I saw the end coming from miles away. It was all too obvious. Actually I was just waiting for the outcome to be revealed as soon as possible so that we could get it over with and end the movie. Not that the actors were bad or so. They all did their job like they should, but it was just kind of slow and a bit boring. Okay to watch once and then forget about it. Well at least, that's what I'm going to do.

Neat setup with a strange and forced end twist
Seraphion18 April 2015
The story takes on what was quite a popular theme about one's obsession to another person, like what we saw in "The Fan". But this movie gave it a more specific theme of high school boyfriend crush. The story was set up quite neatly, with the movie able to return the mood to neutral almost every time thriller part cedes. But the movie ends itself weirdly by forcing the strange end twist into the story. For me the twist itself on its own feels quite nice. But how the movie incorporated it without really building supporting hints, aside putting Caitriona Balfe as the actress for that part, really confuses me. The acting overall is not so good. Lucas Till really need to improve his acting. Sarah Bolger also didn't give out good performance. Crystal Reed's acting is the only one at adequate levels for her character.

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before
evankatsogiannis23 March 2019
"Crush" is a 2013 direct-to-video horror film which stars Lucas Till (MacGyver, X-Men) as Scott Norris, an athletically talented teen who's dreams are to play football (or soccer, whatever you call it) at a prestigious sporting school. A colleague of Scott's named Bess, played by Crystal Reed, develops an unhealthy crush on him, and as her fixation grows weird events begin to occur to Scott and those around him.

Going into this film, I had no expectations. I was just at a sleepover with two of my closest friends and we were just looking for a nice horror film to watch as it was rather late. When we found "Crush", we decided to watch it, as the premise sounded decent enough. But we were far from expecting to get what we got out of it.

Right from the get go (don't worry, this is only the start and I won't spoil it), when the title card is shown, the main character has a voice over line, in which he defines the fourth definition of crush in the dictionary. At this point in time, me and my friends were already laughing harder than usual, but little did we know that was only the beginning. Early on we are introduced to each character, some of which are integral to the plot, or at least somewhat integral, and others just as side characters. But me and one of my friends realised that nearly every single female character seemed to have at least a small attraction to Scott except Andie (Caitriona Balfe), a friend of Bess'. As the movie progressed, me and my friends found ourselves to be uncontrollably laughing at the dialogue, all the sub-plots (A sub-plot was added in pretty much in every single scene. There were about 30, you can count) and just the choices the screenwriters made. And at the end of the film, there is this twist, which I won't spoil, that comes so out of the blue that me and my friends, or friend, as one of them had given up on the film, were far from able to control ourselves. The twist also contradicts the direction that the entire film before it had too, which just adds to the laughs. Also about 90% of the sub-plots are left hanging and those that actually do get incorporated into the main story are just added to make the final scene more tense. Some of the characters introduced throughout the film contribute nothing to the story and are just there to give a main character depth of sorts.

All in all, "Crush" is simultaneously a masterpiece and a disaster. Analytically, this movie is awful. The screenplay is one of the worst in film history, there are so many useless sub-plots and characters that contribute nothing to the main plot, but at least the acting is somewhat decent. But enjoyment-wise, this film is a masterpiece. This is one of those so-bad-it's-good films, where all the faults are just so bad they're laughable and I can assure you you'll have a ball watching this film. "Crush" is an unearthed gem, one that is certainly in the same boat as cult classics like "The Room", "Who Killed Captain Alex" and "The Wicker Man". The title card, the dialogue, the sub-plots, the useless characters, "Crush" is such an awful film, yet it's given me one of my most enjoyable experiences this year. As I say in the title, I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before.

FINALLY ...a movie that doesn't have cussing & nudity, still a thriller & WOW ...I still watched it!
Psalmsat5125 May 2014
FINALLY ...a movie that does not have cussing and nudity, is still a thriller and WOW ...I still watched it regardless of it missing those things! KUDOS to the film makers of this movie for avoiding such things, as it proves that it is not necessary to have in order to have a decent film. People will still watch regardless.

Even though this film is not the best of the best, it is still worth watching. It was a tad bit slow-go, but enough to keep me watching and interested.

It did have a twist in the end, but didn't leave you hanging, which a lot of these types of movies do. So I really liked that, as well! BONUS!

Worthless piece of crap
raphael_cristian27 March 2018
Incredibly stupid movie. Terrible acting. Horrendous dialogue. This Lucas Till is in X-Men? How did this imbecile get a part in X-Men? Half of his time in this poor excuse of a movie he's topless. Unfortunately none of the girls are. Now that I'm looking at the poster of the movie, I realize that it is in itself a huge spoiler. These people are incredible idiots. If you are masochistic enough to want to watch this garbage don't look at the poster. It gives away the twist at the end. Which is a bit surprising, but it doesn't save this shite. The worst part is that teenagers nowadays do behave like these crap-for-brains. That's really frightening.

Crush??? Why not stalking Stott?
adi_200210 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Scott is a lucky guy, he's good looking, smart, popular and he plays in the high school football team. He dates Jules a cute girl and she likes him but he says that it will be better if they just remain friends. Bess is exactly the opposite of him, she is shy, new in town and uncommunicative. After bumping each other one day by mistake when Scott is jogging, it appears that a tender moment is happening between them. Since then Jess receives some weird messages witch says that to leave Scoot alone. Both Jules and Scott believe that Bess is the one who is doing this because she has a crush for Scott and now he must confront her in order to stop with these treats.

I think that this movie is a mixture between Misery and Obsessed but regarding the capabilities of the actors and the fact that they are all young I could say it came up pretty well and has a twist that could fool many of us including myself. So give it a chance.

Refreshing thriller that will appeal to adults & mature teens.
Pretty-Wycked-Designs17 April 2013
I normally do not watch movies with this type of plot-line because I find the same old tired tropes used again and again. However, the director here made, in my opinion, a refreshing, touching, and realistic movie that gave fresh depth and character to the story.

I was left guessing who the protagonist and antagonist were until the very end, and the ending was well acted, with realistic characters who acted the way I thought someone in their positions would, not the way an audience would be screaming at them not to.

I highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a suspense/thriller/romance/horror.

This Film Looks Quite Dated Enough
FilmMan4725 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
crush 2013 is a project that looks quite old fashioned or in other words dated so much i don't know why it has that feeling to it that seems like it was filmed so many years back.

the cast got some Irish and American young actresses showcasing their talent on a muddled script.

story: few young women are after an athlete and one of them got a crush on him and goes too far in destroying anyone in her path.

now here is the problem with this film forget the women but the guy is a coward in other words he is not man enough period to deserve any woman there you go i said it,why because such protagonists with zero common sense should be killed off immediately our hero is dumb to the point that he can't even make choices and gets easily distracted.

now here is the funny situation when the guy gets captured this crazy mad girl keeps on torturing him the scene should make the viewer creep out but no it tries too hard to mix the horror genre in it and failing hard hey i was laughing through that screaming and bad acting.

there are plenty of films like this made on this topic before this what was the reason to make this film is to showcase is maybe just maybe that makers want to give the kind of wrong message out there is that if women become strong enough they should be assumed evil now what the hell does this mean hey i am not just making this up watch this film guys and you will see so many hidden messages in it.

men and women are equals both are humans but is the level or degree of stupidity the same too hell no there is plenty of dialogs here that proves brainless people make anything these days and sad part is it sells.

crush 2013 just took itself way too seriously like some Wes Craven film.

so beware young school kids out there make sure whoever you fall in love with or vise versa must not have a face-book account.

films like these released today totally apes those a grade Hollywood 80s and 90s hits like fatal attraction or for more examples let us take the soft core films of 90s like the ones with Shannon Tweed etc.

overall crush 2013 is a half good half bad below average teenage flick that you might like only if you want some intentional comedy my rating is 3/10.

A joke
picassomanhdan8 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I regret squandering one and a half hour on this film: it is a great disappointment.

The professional movie editing, camera angle, acting and background development can't salvage the horrifying script. It simply lacks complexity, surprises and smoothness. The movie, in my opinion, is much fragmented. Even though there are clear connections between scenes and parts of the plot, they are either clumsily put together or very forced.

I didn't get frightened at all while watching the movie. And when it is unravelled who is responsible for the awesome stalking, the audience must find it extremely effortless to guess what ensues. The predictability, sadly, deteriorates this already crummy film.

Don't waste your time
bonoor-013915 April 2022
Two hours of frustration and cringe, with some of the most unnatural and bad acting I seen in a while. I know Cameron Monaghan from his great work in the show Gotham. So seeing him act so platonic and scripted was awful. John Malkovich was probably high when he accepted this role. The only one who okay was Frank Grillo but his bare minimum acting made him look like he was Leonardo Dicaprio compared to the rest of the cast.

Just awful
crazyjooster21 April 2020
There isn't actually one likeable male character in the film, the lead character is the worst of them all.

Right from the beginning of the film, the lead character was portrayed as a complete arse and all you wanted was for him to be killed, who are we supposed to be rooting for in this?

The majority of acting, other than Reed is bad. The cinematography is shockingly bad.

I just do not understand the good reviews.
