Rainn Wilson is opening up about his mental health during the years he was filming The Office.
The actor who gave life to Dwight Schrute throughout the nine seasons of the U.S. remake of the British sitcom created by Ricky Gervais was on the Bill Maher podcast Club Random where he revealed that being on the show felt like “wasn’t enough” to him professionally.
“When I was in The Office, I spent several years really mostly unhappy because it wasn’t enough,” Wilson said.
He added, “I’m on one of the great TV shows. People love it. I wasn’t enjoying it. I was thinking about, ‘Why am I not a movie star? Why am I not the next Jack Black or the next Will Ferrell? How come I can’t have a movie career? Why don’t I have this development deal?'”

Elissa Karasik’s Snapchat drama “Frat Boy Genius,” and scripts about Matt Drudge and the father of the Williams sisters are at the top of the 2018 version of the Black List.
“Frat Boy Genius” is a fictional story centering on a Snapchat employee, who chronicles the rise of her former Stanford classmate — “preeminent douchebag” and current boss Evan Spiegel.
The list, now in its 13th year, was unveiled on Monday and compiled by Franklin Leonard’s Black List organization. The list of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood is based on suggestions of more than 300 film executives, each of whom contributed the names of up to 10 favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2018, and will not have begun principal photography during this calendar year. Scripts had to receive at least seven mentions to be included on the Black List.

As acclaimed as it was, Mad Men was never a breakout ratings hit — which makes it all the more strange that so many ’60s-set clones have popped up since its debut. First came NBC’s The Playboy Club and ABC’s Pan Am, both cancelled after a single season. And now comes Amazon’s newsroom drama Good Girls Revolt (debuting this Friday), which unfortunately is closer in quality to those two misfires than the original. It gets the period clothes and music right, but forgets to include any of the insight and emotional complexity that made Mad Men great.

Fox has canceled Kevin Bacon-led serial killer drama “The Following” after three seasons, TheWrap has learned. The show follows Bacon as Ryan Hardy, an investigator hot on the heels of serial killers. The first two seasons had Hardy chasing James Purefoy’s Joe Carroll, while Season 3 saw the introduction of Michael Ealy as the new big bad. After Season 2, show writers Brett Mahoney and Alexi Hawley and director Marcos Siega were elevated to co-showrunners under the supervision of series creator Kevin Williamson. Rainn Wilson has brought a House-like feel to crime television this year with Fox's Backstrom. The show has been a nice blend of comedy, drama and refreshing banter. After a somewhat uncertain start, the show and cast have really found their stride and gelled. Over the course of its first season, there have been a fair share of great moments, both comedic and dramatic. Here are our top 11 favorite moments.

Backstrom's finale, are you ready for it? I. Am. Not. I have been addicted to this puzzle of a show since I binge watched the first three episode before they became public. Backstrom has had me howling with laughter, insatiably curious about its titular character, charmed by the colorfulness and likability of each member of the Scu, and moved by the struggles of Everett Backstrom. If this show doesn't get renewed, I will be sorely disappointed. (Do you hear that, Fox? Can you feel my beady blues boring holes into your collective foreheads?) So, let's squeeze everything we can out of this finale, shall we?
Lieutenant Everett Backstrom is staring down a conflicted double barrel shotgun of great potential or certain obscurity. By the close of "Rock Bottom," Backstrom mush choose his fate. In Backstrom's "Love Is A Rose And You Better Not Pick It" the bloom is definitely off the rose as Backstrom receives the most devastating news yet and his angel mother is knocked clear off her pedestal. I questioned in my 'Backstrom is a Big Dick' rant that I didn't know how, in the name of all that is holy, were we going to see any glimmer of hope for the full Backstrom package in the remaining few episodes. What was I thinking? Has Backstrom and Bones creator Hart Hanson ever let me down? Further, has the full Hanson-Persson duo ever not delivered?
In the last couple of episodes we've learned that Backstrom's drinking ruined his relationship with Amy, that Backstrom desperately wants her back and that Valentine is -- gasp -- Backstrom's brother by another mother. In "Love is a Rose and You Better Not Pick...

James Corden initiated tasteful nudity on “The Late Late Show” on Monday. While interviewing “Furious 7” star Jordana Brewster, Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl, and “Backstrom” star Rainn Wilson, Corden invited an elderly bearded model named Jonathan to pose naked for his guests on stage so they could create works of art. Wilson remarked, “Jonathan, you look just like Dave Grohl!” Wilson joked. Despite my yet-scandalized soul over Backstrom's bastardization of a 30-day sobriety chip given to him by the only woman who will ever love him in "Give 'Til It Hurts', the first ten seconds of "Inescapable Truth" had me laughing out loud at the recently-showered lieutenant's feeble attempts to dry himself with sheets of toilet paper. What's so entertainingly delicious about Backstrom is the many times throughout each episode when I find myself howling at the tidbits of outright absurdity finessed by the titular character and his team of misfit crime fighters. His comments, their facial expressions, their explanations to the Backstrom muggles. Good, inappropriate humor.
The previous episode was monumental in pealing back some layers of Backstrom's character. He outright admitted his desire to reconcile with Amy. *Gasp* She revealed that she had an alcoholic father whom she watched die after his first 30 days of sobriety. It's clear...

Backstrom is back after a three week hiatus with a lead-in by the ever popular crimedy Bones. Hart Hanson created both shows so the possibility that the Bones crowd might give Backstrom a try is high. However, these two shows are very different and will appeal to some, but not all. Backstrom's variety of crazy is an acquired taste.
"Give Till It Hurts" brought several surprises to viewers. Some good, some hard to swallow. We get to see Backstrom decked out in a tux at a swanky fundraiser where he runs into Amy, his ex-future wife. It's always good when Amy is around because although these two have history and issues, they have even more chemistry. Backstrom's problem is that he cannot figure out how to interact with Amy without totally effing it up. (*face palm*) Every single time they are together, Backstrom assumes too much and goes in for an unwelcome kiss.

Backstrom introduces the titular character's father and nemesis in this episode entitled "Enemy of My Enemies." While I anticipated we'd find Blue Backstrom to be an extreme A-hole, I found him to be rather pleasant... until he displayed his true colors in the last five minutes. Rather than seeing some kind of saccharine familial healing that would advance the plot and spread unicorn farts all over the place, we got something better: A rapier sharp image of a self-serving, consummate liar who puts himself ahead of his children.
Amy reappears all too briefly in "Enemy of my Enemies" as well to advance her storyline. Though it looks like things are going down hill in the end of the episode, I submit that progress has been made in that it's clear there is interest between them, but that Backstrom must figure out how to bridge the gap of their past to their present.

For the most part, Fox has really been struggling this season. When it comes to new shows, Empire is a hit and Gotham's doing okay but Utopia, Mulaney, Gracepoint, and Red Band Society were dismal failures in the ratings and have already been cancelled. How's Backstrom doing? Will it survive to see a second season?
On Backstrom, an offensive, irascible yet brilliant detective (Rainn Wilson) is brought back from exile to run Portland Police Bureau's Special Crimes Unit. The rest of the cast includes Genevieve Angelson, Dennis Haysbert, Kristoffer Polaha, Page Kennedy, Beatrice Rosen, and Thomas Dekker.
With American Idol as a lead-in, the series debuted on January 22nd with a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.98 million viewers. That was an okay start but there wasn't much serious competition on the other networks.

From the Laid to Rest films to Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Thomas Dekker has played a plethora of memorable roles in the horror and sci-fi genres. His performance in Robert Hall’s Fear Clinic is no exception—in his third collaboration with director Hall, Dekker turns in a fascinating performance as Blake, a young man suffering from brain damage and Ptsd after surviving a madman’s public shooting spree.
With Fear Clinic now available on Blu-ray and DVD from Anchor Bay, we caught up with the Dekker to discuss bringing Blake to life in non-vocal ways, his character’s chilling backstory, working with the legendary Robert Englund, facing his own fear during filming, and much more.
What were the challenges of realistically portraying a character with brain damage and Ptsd? Did digging into that role require any in-depth research?
Thomas Dekker: I have to give a lot of credit to Rob Hall.

Backstrom's "Bogeyman" reveals a major piece of the Backstrom train wreck puzzle and it is a doozie, my friends. The detective pursues the case of missing 14-year-old Talia Lennox, a case which he immediately identifies as connected to the unsolved abduction of Lacy Siddon, which sent Backstrom careening over the edge seven years previously. The case is indeed harrowing, but I think we'll find going forward that the bureau's lack of faith in (and treatment of) Backstrom seven years ago will prove just as devastating and enlightening as the continuing case itself. Kudos to Rainn Wilson for his masterful delivery of a man obsessed convicted and eventually completely unhinged by a world he finds peopled with corpses who don't know they are dead.
Through the eyes of Detective Sergeant John Almond, "Bogeyman" also provides a glimmer of hope for some long-needed future redemption for the acerbic, protocol-eschewing and indiscriminately...

Thursday’s episode of “Backstrom” will shed light on “a very dark experience” that the eponymous detective’s roommate endured, actor Thomas Dekker told TheWrap during the latest installment of “Drinking with the Stars.” “Episode five that’s airing this week, this is sort of the turning point where we get a lot more information about Valentine’s past. Backstrom's fourth episode, "I Am A Bird Now" picks right up where we left off after Backstrom's confidential confession to Dr. Deb about what really happened the night he caught and killed Mr. Visser. In the previous episode, Backstrom was informed by his ex-future wife, newly appointed head of the Civilian Oversight Committee, Amy Gazanian (Sarah Chalke) that he was being brought up on charges for misconduct during that shooting. Now we see him being grilled by that same lovely Amy who asserts that he shot himself to justify killing a man in cold blood. Backstrom narrowly escapes further examination by having a panic attack of epic proportions. Though Amy suspects him of faking the attack, the way the scene was delivered and shot made it clear that it was indeed a genuine attack.

After a three-year hiatus from Reddit AMAs, Rainn Wilson, a.k.a. the Actor Formerly Known As Dwight K. Schrute, logged on Thursday night to share his contagious positivity and plug his new show, Backstrom. It's a big, busy year for him away from Dunder Mifflin: He has two movies (Cooties, The Boy) coming out, a new TV show vying for viewers' hearts, a potential book bound for publication, and ... a zonkey basking in the glory of being his zonkey. (If you don't know what a zonkey is, this is going to be a life-changing internet event for you.) Wilson was at turns flippant, sincere, and passionate — in other words: a little bit Everett, Rainn, and Dwight. Here are some of his best responses, in which he wields sexual advice like a scimitar and indulges in some sage, Yoda-esque moments. On his favorite comparison, that of Backstrom to House: That's...

Round three of Backstrom aired with "Takes One to Know One," wherein sleepless hot mess Everett 'Cranky Pants' Backstrom once again disgusts and infuriates nearly everyone he comes into contact with... including his defenders Det. Sgt. John Almond and forensics savant Sgt. Peter Niedermayer at the beginning. Civilian tech wizard Nadia Paquet continues to see the sex appeal of Backstrom's 'little boy lost and a little bit naughty' persona and suggests what Mr. Sleepless-In-Portland needs is to find a lover. What? Is she applying for the job? He does make a rather sloppy pass at her in the middle of the episode, but, no, she's not applying for the job; much more character development is in order before people start hopping in and out of each other's beds.

Rainn Wilson continues his portraiture of Backstrom in "Bella." This episode delivered a Backstrom who was difficult to find redeemable... until the very last moments. As viewers have yet to fully invest in this character, a more provocative (likable) character display would have made more sense so early on in the season. Nonetheless, Backstrom's disdain for the bullies and his thirst for revenge is understandable and entertaining even though he presents as crazed throughout most of the episode.
