Earlier this year, Shiri Appleby fulfilled a goal she’d laid out for network executives while filming the pilot for Lifetime’s UnREAL: to direct an episode of the hit series. “I told them all that I’ve already done the work and was really hoping for the opportunity,” says Appleby, who plays weary reality dating competition producer Rachel Goldberg on the Bachelor-inspired drama.
Stepping behind the camera, the actress helmed the season-two episode “Casualty,” making her prime-time directorial debut. But this wasn’t merely a vanity project to appease a network star. For Appleby, it’s a next step in her career that she’s been working toward ever since the CW series Life Unexpected was canceled in 2011.
Still most famous for playing Liz Parker on Roswell at the time, Appleby was ready to take more control over her career. “I started feeling like I was capable of doing more than just acting,” she tells Et...

Spoilers ahead for Monday night's episode of UnREAL. On Lifetime's UnREAL, Shiri Appleby’s character at once observes and calculates, manipulates and repents. She plays Rachel, a reality-tv producer who pushes contestants’ buttons to get a reaction. She’s great at her job but hasn’t completely drunk the Kool-Aid of her Bachelor-like show, Everlasting. In Monday’s episode, Rachel tries to be sympathetic to a contestant, Anna, whose dad died, but ultimately cuts together footage that makes Anna look crazy. It’s to Appleby’s credit that viewers can see the genius, broken, manipulative, and desperate parts of her very human character and still be completely transfixed. We chatted with Appleby about her new show, playing a non-romantic lead, and the best female showrunners she's worked with.Your character is constantly on her toes and running around. As a producer on Dating Rules From My Future Self, did you...

After a record breaking 14 million views for its first season, the online web series sensation Dating Rules From My Future Self returns with a new season starring The Vampire Diaries’ Candice Accola. After the storybook ending for Lucy (portrayed by Shiri Appleby) last season, the second season follows the roller-coaster love life of Chloe Cunningham. In an exclusive interview, star Candice Accola talked about starring in and producing the current season of Dating Rules Of My Future Self.
Can you generally describe how you became involved with Dating Rules From My Future Self?
Candice: I worked with Bob Levy and Alloy Entertainment before on The Vampire Diaries, so that was the initial beginning of it all. It was just a great opportunity from Alloy Entertainment,...

If you're a fan of "The Vampire Diaries" star Candice Accola, you're in luck! Our fave vampire Barbie may not be returning to The CW until October 11, but we can catch her on the Alloy Entertainment web series "Dating Rules From My Future Self" when it returns for Season 2 on Wednesday, August 1.
Accola plays the lead character, 26-year-old Chloe Cunningham, who has a pretty cynical view of love and dating until she starts getting video messages from her future self. Future Chloe knows that the path she's taken leads to lots of lonely nights (and a bad haircut) -- and she tries to guide our girl in a new direction. The question is whether Chloe take her future self's advice -- and whether it will lead her to love.
Season 1 star Shiri Appleby will appear to pass the torch to Accola. Hulu subscribers can view the first episode online now,...

Good news, "Vampire Diaries" fans! If you can't get enough of Candice Accola on The CW, you'll get to see much more of her this year. She's taken on the lead role in Season 2 of the web series "Dating Rules From My Future Self," produced by Alloy Entertainment.
Candice will play Chloe Cunningham, a 26-year-old woman who gets face-time messages from her 36-year-old self, giving her advice as she navigates her romantic entanglements. Candice will also receive producer credit on the series, according to THR. She'll be joined by "Modern Family's" Reid Ewing, best known as Haley Dunphy's boyfriend Dylan.
"Vampire Diaries" fans may already be familiar with the series, since Taylor Kinney (Hot Uncle Mason himself!) starred in the first season. Though Kinney won't be back for more "Dating Rules," since he's busy with NBC's "Chicago Fire," Season 1 lead Shiri Appleby will be returning for the first episode of the show.

As we've mentioned before, James Van Der Beek is playing kind of a jerk version of himself in Don't Trust the Bitch in Apt. 23. That version of James is going on Dancing With the Stars and the real James got a wakeup call as to how tough it was. "I went in thinking I've always wanted to learn how to dance. I'm a pretty good athlete; I could figure this out. After about three or four dance classes, I thought I was looking good, so we recorded it on an iPhone. I watched it and I was absolutely mortified. I look like a jock trying to fumble his way through it. It was horrible. I realized I really had to step it up so many more hours of training followed until I got to the point where it was good enough for the jokes to work. It did not come easily.

Lady Gaga, we're happy for you and we're gonna let you finish... but we found Taylor Kinney first. Just saying.
Yes, Gaga and her "Vampire Diaries" boyfriend are allegedly getting a little more serious, shopping for houses in Pennsylvania and Pda-ing it up in public. Now that they're getting all official on us, we have a feeling that Kinney's star is on the rise -- after all, look what happened to K. Fed, and he wasn't even hot.
If you want to have something to contribute to the water cooler conversation, here's what you need to know about Kinney. He's from Lancaster, Pa and he's 31 years old. He's got three brothers and went to West Virginia University for business. Though he's had considerable success as a TV actor, he currently lives in a pretty run-down condo on the beach in San Diego (obviously, surfing is a priority) with three buddies.
