Martha defends Michael Ward, the driver of the private security van transporting a convicted prisoner who died of a heart attack. Ward was a police custody sergeant for many years and never had a similar incident. His defense is that he was following company procedures and that the man died due to a pre-existing medical condition which he was not aware of. Clive Reader meanwhile does his best to convince George Duggan's client, Fatima Ali, not to plead guilty in a case involving the death of her brother. He is also facing disciplinary action over his handling of the case in Oxford. Shoe Lane chambers takes on a new pupil Daniel Lomas, who worked as a policeman for 5 years before taking up the law as a career.
