"No Government in the world kills its people unless it's led by a crazy person." So pronounced President al-Assad of Syria in 2011. This film takes the viewer inside Syria in 2011, just before a full-blown, and as yet unfinished, civil war ripped the country apart. As citizens rose up to protest an unforgiving regime, so al-Assad's soldiers were deserting their units to form new armies to fight against him. Filmed outside Syria with Assad supporters and exiled leaders alike and inside the country using undercover filmmakers and smuggling out their footage, this piece documents the early bloody days of a country beginning to destroy itself.
