- While Marshall and Lily spend their first night in their new home after deciding to permanently move to Long Island, Barney takes over as group leader in Manhattan--both with disastrous results.
- Lily and Marshall have now officially moved to Long Island, which brings about many issues. For Lily and Marshall, they receive an unexpected and somewhat unwanted house guest: Mickey. Mickey, who grew up in that house, believes he is helping Lily and Marshall by pointing out what they can and cannot do with every aspect of the house. Lily/Marshall and Mickey come to a stalemate when they negotiate Mickey's living arrangement versus his help in fixing the broken fuse which has resulted in the house being in total darkness. At MacLaren's, Ted, Barney and Robin are lamenting the empty half a booth where Lily and Marshall generally sat, and which will now be emptier than usual. However, Barney comes to the realization that Lily was generally the boss of their group, and thus now he plans on taking over. That leads to an evening which has them finding unexpected surrogates for Lily and Marshall. And Robin and Kevin are still at the stage in their relationship where they want to prove to the other that they are up for doing almost anything, even if they're not.—Huggo
- Marshall and Lily officially move to the suburbs, where they find Lily's dad Mickey (Chris Elliott) unwilling to move out. Mickey says that he grew up in the house and knows it like the back of his hand. He tells Marshall and Lily what to put where and how. He practices the drums and leaves notes for Marshall as instructions all over the place. After putting up with him for two weeks, Marshall finally tells Mickey to move out. Mickey says that he was only trying to help, while Marshall says that they don't need his help. When the power goes out, a hurt Mickey decides to play tricks on Marshall and attempts to prevent him from successfully reaching the basement (by setting all sorts of obstacles in Marshall's path which are difficult to navigate in the darkness) where the fuse box is located. When Marshall trips down the basement stairs, Lily convinces Mickey to instruct Marshall, via intercom, how to reach the fuse box. He does so, and Marshall is able to restore the power. This incident inspires Mickey's only successful board game called "Lites Out".
Meanwhile, Ted finds himself missing Marshall and Lily, while Barney imposes himself as the group's new leader. Marshall and Lily are a 46-minute train ride away from New York. The gang keep 2 seats of the booth unoccupied in their memory.
Barney wants the gang to do something that they could never do when Marshall and Lily were around. The remaining gang, now including Kevin, are forced go to a strip club by Barney, where they encounter Lily's stripper doppelganger Jasmine (Alyson Hannigan) again. Barney tries to make Jasmine and her boyfriend Arvydas (Dimitri Diatchenko) fit into the group as a new Lily and Marshall. As the night progresses, Robin and Kevin play "New Relationship Chicken" (where they always say 'yes' to things to seem more interesting) until they admit they don't like it. This is why they said yes to coming to the strip club in the first place. They get a lap dance. And even go to a party in the slaughterhouse with their new friends, led by Barney. Ted becomes increasingly inebriated and sad, after he calls Marshall and Lily don't return any of his calls. He feels that they have already cut him out of their lives. At an underground poker game at an abandoned asylum house, Ted ends up winning everything. But Stripper Lily and Arvydas steal $200 from each of the gang (pretending to be a cover charge for a party covering the New York Yankees and Coca Cola), convincing them to go back to Marshall and Lily. Barney also concedes that he is not ready to lead the group.
Kevin and Robin realize that they hate saying yes to all the things and decide that they are adults who are sleeping together and do not need to lie to each other. They discover that they also hated giving high-fives to each other.
On Long Island, Ted tells Marshall and Lily that he misses them, and they all sit down for breakfast. Lily tells her father that he can stay for a little longer, to which he replies that he will be staying "two weeks max," although Future Ted states that it "wasn't two weeks." Future Ted then says that even though they all eventually moved away from their booth at MacLaren's, their "booth" was wherever they all were.
In the tag scene, Mickey watches "The Widow Rodriguez" work out, only to run off screaming for 911 when she appears to have a heart attack.
