The doll's haircut
Prismark108 May 2016
An early short from director Todd Lincoln. There is no dialogue, the short is set to a soundtrack to evoke mood such as the last song set to a French love song which suggests lustiness.

The film opens at a birthday party set in the mid 1980s if we go by the toys such as the Garbage Patch Kids and Speak & Spell toy.

A red headed girl is celebrating her seventh birthday with her friends, while she is opening her presents one of the boys takes her Cabbage Patch Kid doll called Xavier and cuts off the doll's red hair.

For this misdeed the boy is spanked with a belt and branded with the word bible on his back. We now switch 12 years later with the boy now aged around 19 years of age playing Frisbee in the park with a friend. The red headed girl sees him and leaves an object behind at a park bench. She kind of gives a sign that she is interested in him.

When the boy later goes to her house to deliver the object, she kisses him and then goes off. The boy is nervous but thinks he is going to hit the jackpot. The girl on the other hand wants revenge for Xavier's haircut.

An interesting, zippy film which actually tells the story well in its short running time. The songs add to the mood and I liked the twist at the end.
