As Disney quietly disappears huge swathes of film history into its vaults, I'm going to spend 2020 celebrating Twentieth Century Fox and the Fox Film Corporation's films, what one might call their output if only someone were putting it out.And now they've quietly disappeared William Fox's name from the company: guilty by association with Rupert Murdoch, even though he never associated with him.***Dangerous Crossing was directed by Joseph M. Newman in 1953, not long before the one title he's semi-remembered for, This Island Earth. It seems to have been greenlit as a B-picture to take advantage of the sets built for Fox's Titanic, as it's an ocean voyage mystery.Newlywed Jeanne Crain boards ship with her husband, who promptly vanishes, and nobody will admit to ever having seen him. Of course the plot kernel was used before, by writers Launder and Gilliat for director Hitchcock in The Lady Vanishes.

Warner Bros. has released a "new" trailer for Jupiter Ascending, new in that it now says it's coming out in February 2015 rather than July. I can only assume this is to ensure no one gets confused, but just imagine if it meant long lead marketing for all February films in the future. One thing is for certain, the more studios spread out those blockbusters the more marketing the movie blogs will have to post year round. yt id="TLyk00gFPdQ" width="500" Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. I have no idea what to expect when it comes to the Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending. Since I do my best not to watch trailers, only skim them for images such as the one above, I can only judge this thing from what I've seen, not heard, and it looks like they threw the whole pot of sci-fi pasta at the screen just to see what would stick. As with anything Wachowski, I expect it to be different, but will it be any goodc The plot centers on Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) who is tracked down by Caine (Channing Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, because her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos. Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), Douglas Booth (Noah), Tuppence Middleton (TV's "The Lady Vanishes"), Doona Bae (Cloud Atlas...

The first clip for Andy and Lana Wachowski's latest sci-fi weird-out, Jupiter Ascending, premiered over the weekend featuring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum having a chat over Tatum's gravity boots, which seem to be quite different than those in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Set for release on July 25, Jupiter Ascending centers on Jupiter Jones (Kunis) who is tracked down by Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, because her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos. Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), Douglas Booth (Noah), Tuppence Middleton (TV's "The Lady Vanishes"), Doona Bae (Cloud Atlas), James D'Arcy (Hitchcock) and Tim Pigott-Smith (Alice in Wonderland) co-star. Warner Bros. and Village RoadShow have premiered a brand new trailer and the first two posters for the Wachowskis Jupiter Ascending starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis set to hit theaters on July 18. The sci-fi epic looks like exactly something you'd expect from Andy and Lana Wachowski and I have to give it to WB for continuing to spend money and place their faith in the sibling filmmakers. While they haven't really impressed me with their last two efforts -- Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas -- I can appreciate the ambition on display. Last year I made a list of my 50 most anticipated movies of 2013, but this year I struggled putting together a list of 40. The kind of movies I used to anticipate don't get me brimming with excitement as much as they saturate the market and we can fully expect to see one nearly every weekend and this year it starts early with Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit on January 17. So no need to anticipate them, they'll be here soon enough, but I've already discussed all this, no need to trod the same path over again. My list would have also been easier to make had I not already seen six films you may want to add to your list of most anticipated: Dom Hemingway (April 4) Read My Review Enemy (March 14) Read My Review Ernest & Celestine (March 14) Only Lovers Left Alive (April 11) Read My Review Under the Skin (April 4) Read My Review Venus...

Starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis, here’s your first look at the magnificent trailer for The Wachowski Brothers new sci-fi epic Jupiter Ascending.
The film will showcase the kind of cutting-edge visual effects that have become the benchmarks of the Wachowskis’ films. Dan Glass (“Batman Begins,” “Cloud Atlas”) is the film’s visual effects supervisor, a post he has occupied for the Wachowskis since “The Matrix” Trilogy. Additionally, John Gaeta, the visual effects Oscar winner behind “The Matrix,” is contributing to the visual effects design.

Taking on a Hitchcock title borders on cinematic heresy for many. Yet the new version of "The Lady Vanishes" is not trying to remake the master's 1938 version.
Airing Sunday on PBS (check local listings), "The Lady Vanishes: Masterpiece Mystery!" hews closer to the novel than the film, but the basic story is the same. It's a film shot rich with ambers and shadows, perfect for a mystery.
The story unfolds in 1931 on a train traveling from the Balkans and revolves around an independent, wealthy young British woman, Iris (Tuppence Middleton, "Inspector Lewis").
"When you first meet her, she is not a particularly likable person," Middleton tells Zap2it. "Taking this character, who was actually quite spoiled and privileged, and making her into this likable character" was her aim.
It's already been a rough day for Iris -- and a somewhat confusing one for the audience. Iris bribes the ticket...

The Wachowskis are currently in production on their next incredible sounding film project Jupiter Ascending. I enjoy the films that this team creates. They are always pushing the boundaries of filmmaking, not only in terms of storytelling, but also technically. It sounds like they are taking things to a new level of innovation with this next film. In a recent interview with Collider, one of the film's stars, Channing Tatum, revealed some interesting details about how they are doing stuff that's never been done before. Before we get to that, here's a little reminder about what the film is about,

Summer 2014 is already full of immensely anticipated blockbusters, and Jupiter Ascending is one of the few I’m most looking forward to, by far.
Coming off the back of co-directing Cloud Atlas with Tom Tykwer, Andy and Lana Wachowski have returned behind the camera to bring their long-awaited Jupiter Ascending to the big screen next year.
Production has officially begun here in Watford over at Warner Bros.’ Leavesen Studios. And the official press release, announcing that the film began shooting at the start of the month, brings with it the first synopsis:

Sounds like it will be yet another awesome Wachowski movie! They always manage to make visually stunning movies, and I'm excited to see what this one ends up looking like.

The next film from The Wachowski Siblings (The Matrix trilogy, Cloud Atlas), the Science Fiction film Jupiter Ascending, has officially began production and Warner Bros has released the first synopsis of the film, giving us our first look at the story.
I've always been a fan of the Wachowski's films. I think they're amazing storytellers and I'm so disappointed that Cloud Atlas didn't do as well as it should have in the theaters. Alas, this is the way the film industry goes, especially when it comes to such esoteric fare as Cloud Atlas. Regardless, their next film, Jupiter Ascending, should have some more mass appeal to movie-goers as it's a full on science fiction film. Warner Bros. has issued a press release this morning announcing that cameras have started rolling on the film, and we've got our first synopsis for the movie (it's been underlined):
Filming is underway on Warner Bros.

The BBC's remake of The Lady Vanishes distanced itself rather too well from Hitchcock's classic film

Who can say why the BBC suddenly decided to remake The Lady Vanishes, though it must have seemed a fair bet that only film buffs – and perhaps not the ones in the habit of dropping by for Call the Midwife at this time on a Sunday night – would remember more than the opening credits of the original 1938 Hitchcock adaptation (scrolling jerkily over a railway hobbyist's layout of a station and hotel nestling in the snow-capped Balkans, which must have looked almost real at the time). In the event they avoided plot familiarity by cunningly going back to the forgotten 1936 novel (The Wheel Spins) by Ethel White, thus dispensing with Hitchcock's gunfight at the end, his comic characters and egregiously providential turns of fortune.

Tuppence Middleton will lead the cast in the BBC's new adaptation of the pyschological thriller The Lady Vanishes. She stars as the beautiful and wealthy socialite Iris Carr, who has to rely on a strength of character she never knew she had to battle doubt and overcome danger as she strives to solve the mystery of why the lady vanished.
25 year old Tuppence (represented by Conway Van Gelder), originally from Bristol, appeared in the films Tormented and Chatroom and can currently be seen playing Tiger in Sky1's Sinbad. She also stars in the upcoming feature Trap for Cinderella alongside Alexandra Roach.
Whilst travelling home alone from the Balkans, to escape from her raucous friends, Iris’s expectations of peace are short lived when she faints on the platform of the railway station in the scorching heat. She wakes in time to be rushed on to the train but with...
